I had a wonderful time with Hanna. She really loves cooking and always provided us with original creative delicious meals. I was very impressed with her ability to plan ahead of time, considering what we have and the balance etc. She is almost perfect trilingual with deep cultural unerstanding. She was eager to learn about Japanese culture and practiced tea ceremony eagerly, which was a learning experience for me, too.

We had the best time! Dani and the whole team are amazing people, Open-minded and very welcoming. The work was so much fun. In the morning we walked the dogs, in the evening we did gardening and cared for the 3 horses. You are out in the nature the whole day and have enough time to rest. We worked most of the time with Nacho and Melli in the shelter and enjoyed every moment we spent with you. We also spent Christmas with Dani, it was so special and lovely. We will never forget our time in the shelter and miss you so much! We still talk about you and the dogs and horses everyday. They had so funny characters. Thank you so much for everything Dani, we admire your passion and you inspired us, you crazy dog mom! <3

Soo this review is long overdue, and I’m very happy to finally write it: I found Valentin and Ivana spontaneously through the website when I decided to extend my solo trip last minute, and staying with them for two weeks in the mountains near Monchique was a truly magical experience on a peaceful, beautiful piece of land surrounded by nature. The energy of the place is calm, grounding, and deeply nourishing, and Valentin and Ivana themselves are incredibly warm, open, and empathetic. From the moment I arrived, I felt genuinely seen, cared for, and supported, and being able to have deep, meaningful conversations with them really moved me and inspired me to think in new ways. Our mornings often began with optional sunrise meditation, followed by work that varied depending on what was needed. They always checked in and adjusted the work to my wellbeing, with fun and enjoyment always the priority. We ate lunch together, which felt warm and natural, and afternoons and weekends were free to explore nature, meditate, do yoga, or simply enjoy quiet time with myself. One especially meaningful experience was when their neighbor took us out on his boat near Portimão. I had met him a few days earlier at lunch; he was funny and full of positive, youthful energy, making the trip incredibly special. I slept in a tent a little away from the house, which gave me privacy while still never feeling alone. With life happening mostly outdoors, an outdoor kitchen, and nature all around, the experience really supported reconnecting with yourself and the natural world. This lifestyle isn’t for everyone, as you spend a fair amount of time alone and away from everyday distractions, but everything is explained clearly beforehand, and you are always supported. Even in just two weeks, the experience left a lasting impression, and I often think back on it with a warm, grateful feeling. It is a truely magical place and I can wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who feels called to it. ❤️

I house sat for Rich during Christmas time, with 2 other volunteers. We looked after his 3 dogs, taking them on walks on the beach. We also looked after his Parrot. Ludwin and Leonel (friends of Rich) , were excellent and helped us with many things when Rich was away. Rich also took us into town to get supplies before he went away. Rich was in contact, to make sure we all were okay, when he was away. Rich lives in a beautiful part of the world , on a gorgeous beach , surrounded by stunning nature. Wish you all the best Rich

I spent almost 2 weeks volunteering here, including New Year’s Eve. I contacted Bob about a week before and we had a call to discuss his needs vs. what I could do, ensuring our expectations were aligned. Most of my time was spent designing website wireframes and preparing content for the tour brochures. The work itself wasn't too difficult for me, but the difficult thing I would say is that as volunteers, we need to know what to do without asking Bob (too frequently) as he is very occupied. As a shop owner, Bob is very busy with daily operations and unexpected issues, so it’s important for volunteers to be self-initiated and find things to do without needing frequent discussion. I intentionally didn't read the reviews too carefully before I reached out because I wanted to leave some "unknown" part to this experience. And yes, there were some surprises that made me feel so glad that I came, and also some unexpected things that I needed to adjust to, but they were just part of the journey. Everyone has different expectations for Workaway. Initially, I just wanted to spend more time to explore Panajachel, plus I love chocolate so much! I did have a good time walking along the lake, exploring San Antonio, Santa Catarina, and Solola, and of course, the beautiful New Year’s Eve. However, after these days, I think what I learned and felt deeply is not to take anything for granted. I tried to really "live it" when I worked here, and it's also what I saw from Bob. He never took my work for granted and he always cared about whether I was overworked, bored, or hungry... etc. He genuinely cares about everyone around him and he really helps all of them. Thanks again to Bob and the entire staff who made my trip in Panajachel so unique and unforgettable.

We loved having Elea, she has a great positive energy and strong work ethic. She is very bubbly and fun. Every task she did, she did quickly and efficiently and always with a smile. She was great with the horses, sometimes a bit too soft on our youngster who needs a strong confident hand, but she learnt quickly, how to up her presence and confidence so she can hold her ground with the horses. She loved the dogs too, and they loved her back. We would welcome her back anytime.

It was one of the coolest and most fun workaways I have ever done. Thanks to Dada I learned a lot about meditation and Yoga. The work was easy going and quit meditative. Met wonderful people and had the best porridge in the world! Thankyou dada! :)

Lucie is an all-round great person. She is very autonomous in the work we gave her, even if she didn't have experience she had the best attitude towards learning and doing her best. At home she knew how to help out with everyday chores and always had really nice conversations. Pulling weeds, looking after Miguel, cleaning, cooking, garlic harvest unpacking boxes, building beds she did it all. Besides our normal tasks, she also helped with a creative project, "the bottle cap table" She knew what to do and created an awesome piece of art. Lucie was super keen to explore the area and managed to see a few local nature highlights. She is very fit and sporty and could entertain herself in her free time. Even when things didn't go according to plan, she still had a positive mindset. Its fantastic to see people her age with such attitude and willingness to explore the world. We loved having her at our place. Lovely personality and gentle soul. Welcome back anytime.

We are incredibly grateful we got the chance to meet Emily. She was a thoughtful, caring, and reliable volunteer, and we were really grateful to have her with us. She showed genuine compassion for the animals and took the time to learn who they were as individuals, not just tasks to be completed. Emily approached her work with care and consistency, followed instructions well, and was always respectful of the sanctuary space and routines. She was calm around the animals, asked thoughtful questions, and clearly cared about doing things properly, which is exactly what you want in a sanctuary environment. She was also lovely to live and work with, considerate, positive, and easy to communicate with. Emily also has a superpower - she is an amazing declutterer of spaces and helped organise several areas of the sanctuary which was so very appreciated. We would happily welcome Emily back in the future and highly recommend her to other hosts looking for someone who truly wants to help and contribute in a meaningful way.

Tim :) we want to say a big thank you to you <3 We spent two very beautiful weeks in this fairytale place. Tim is super chill about how you want to plan your day but it's also helpful to show some initiative from yourself. At the moment the to-do list is huge and the work generally quite physical. He shares the house and the place with a very open heart. Tim is open to your ideas and trusts your work and knowledge a lot. He is also a super good cook. We are really looking forward to coming back at the end of summer, seeing how the project is going and jumping once more into the beautiful Río Azul (or maybe even into the pond?;) )

I couldn’t have wished for a better first Workaway experience. I stayed with this amazing family for over a month, and from the very first day, they made me feel completely at home. Kat and Jo are incredibly kind, caring, and thoughtful people who genuinely do everything they can to make you feel comfortable and welcome in their home. I truly cherished the deep and meaningful conversations I had with Kat & Jo, as well as the lovely weekends out we spent together. These shared moments together, and with the children, made my experience so special and memorable. This was so much more than just a Workaway — it was a real human connection. Thanks to them, my very first month in Australia was an absolute success, filled with warmth, laughter, learning, and beautiful memories. I am so grateful to have met such wonderful people and I will definitely stay in touch with them. I can only highly recommend this family to anyone looking for an authentic, enriching, and heartwarming Workaway experience. Forever thankful 💛

Cara and Alex made us feel really at home! Right from the start we felt like staying with friends, we shared meals, stories and they took us to some fun spots. They’ve created a very cool spot in the middle of the jungle. Before starting the Workaway we communicated a lot, whenever we had questions Cara was super helpful. She also explained us that we would really be entering jungle life, which is very different than what we are used to back home. Unfortunately, we had really underestimated this with our toddler. There is a big property to roam around and their river and own little waterfall are very beautiful, but our toddler was too young to safely explore and wonder around. The bodega the workawayers will stay at is small and very basic as explained, but Cara and Alex tried to make it more comfortable for us and told us to let us know if we needed anything. We only ended up staying for 3 days and really wish we would have felt comfortable enough with our toddler to stay longer and to help Alex and Cara with the work on their property! We’d love to come back someday.

We loved having Amelia stay with us. She was super friendly, happy to get stuck into any task she was given, and was great in the kitchen. We can definitely recommend her to other hosts :)

Wonderful stay in a stunning location. A delightfully remote site run on sustainable principles with fruit and nut trees and leafy vegetables thriving on the steep slope of a mountain where wild boar and pine martens dive across the unmade roads. In late December the weather didn't limit the work much and we planted leeks, cleared the greenhouse, and pruned hazel trees and kiwi vines; when rain did come we made chutney - and chatted about the state of the world, beliefs and life in general. Produce from the land, preserved or newly picked, was turned into delicious meals, and the timber cabin proved very comfortable with Spanish blankets as thick as rugs and a gas heater.  The compost loo was fine - though I failed to wrangle the logistics of the outdoor shower in time which led to a stream of chilly curses and yelps I'm hoping heard only by Ufo the dog.  Andreas is a great guy, an interesting, worldly, companion and caring host, who makes sure your needs are met and that you get a taste of permaculture in Asturias no matter how short the stay.  He included me not just on trips to the coast and up the mountain but in visits to friends and even to a Christmas eve extended Spanish family meal in town. When a misunderstanding between my knee and a stone occurred, I was whisked away over some miles on a dawn mercy drive for treatment. Thanking Andreas for that extraction and tolerance of my then hobbling approach to the Workaway stay!

It was a pleasure to host Helen. We enjoyed having her stay with us at the temple. She was very friendly, worked well with others, was great in the kitchen and was generally a very handy person to have around :)

Working with Kris was wonderful! She knows a lot about sustainable living and is an amazing cook, very generous in all the ways. Me and my daughter stayed with her and sadly, my daughter got sick on the trip there, but Kris was so accommodating and gracious. I shoveled snow, stacked wood, and enjoyed a lot of cleaning projects. Kris' property is incredibly peaceful and I felt more like I was at a retreat than working. Kris is very welcoming, open-minded, and adaptable. I would absolutely recommend to anyone who wants a magical escape to the woods with delicious food :) Thank you so much!

I had a very good time with Christoph, Noemi, Corinne, Jaqueline and Alex. We had good conversations and I learned about the life, the food and the plants in Guadeloupe.I liked very much the house and the surrounding, the animals. The family was very open and patient to answer all my questions. It is an excellent place for Work-away and explore Guadeloupe.

I don't even know where to start. If you're thinking about applying don't hestitate one second and DO IT. This was my first ever workaway and I stayed here during the fall season. My time here at the hostel literally changed my life and was one of the happiest times I ever had. The full-time staff is so welcoming and will make you feel at home from the first second. I did housekeeping which obviously isn't the most glamorous job but I didn't mind doing it one second since it's a really calm and clean hostel. It was really busy during the start of my season , so the work was definitely physically demanding but everything is do able and well-coordinated. 3 months seem like a long commitment but it will fly by and you will be sad that you can't stay longer. I became incredible close with my crew and the staff and will forever be grateful that I was given this opportunity. If you're looking for a HOME away from home, this is the place for you. I will never shut up about it and will keep coming back again and again and again.
