Description
*Updated profile since welcoming our son into the world… we are looking for a few different kinds of volunteers!! *
- First, we would love to welcome families who have their own camper to park on the land! We would love to collaborate with families with young child(ren), who want to experience jungle living and collaborate on farm projects as well as raising kids consciously
- Please note our bodega accommodation is very basic and the futon bed only sleeps a single/couple. It can be made to work with a very small child, but it really is basic and that's why we suggest families would be most comfortable in their own space with a camper. This also keeps the bodega accommodation free for another volunteer.
- All facilities of our home are available: shower, toilet, kitchen, laundry. Our home is a basic wood cabin.
**We are also looking to connect with those who may want to invest longer term in Costa Rica. Our land is 4ha and we would love to find the right people to invest in a sub-division of it, and collaborate in the longer-term - growing food, raising kids, etc.
***
After leaving my job as a lawyer in London during the pandemic, I now spend part of the year in Costa Rica on my farm where the long term vision is to create a community.
My husband and I finished building our home last year, and now have a 5mo baby. We had a wonderful Workaway volunteer prior to birth and early postpartum, and now that we are more settled in this new chapter, want to open our doors again to collaborators and start building community. We live on a 4ha jungle property, with creek and waterfall: it is a peaceful refuge away from hustle and bustle, with a very rural feeling, although only a 30min drive to the beach and near to popular tourist towns.
I am passionate about holistic health and wellbeing, after suffering and recovering from chronic health issues in my twenties. I am in the early stages of growing a medicinal plant & herb garden, and have studied indigenous jungle medicine. I love wandering the forest, foraging for edible plants, and I love sharing my knowledge of holistic healing modalities as well as the healing power of good nutrition - 'food as medicine'. Since studying many aspects of women's health, and birthing my first child, I am also transitioning more into work in the women's health field - with a focus on pregnancy & birth.
I also love music and the arts - my husband and I are musicians, I am a writer, and living on these lands in the wild jungle provide much inspiration for my creative work!

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
My husband and I are musicians and we love to collaborate artistically with others!
I love sharing my knowledge of local jungle medicines, food and nutrition as 'medicine', and holistic healing.
I've had a diverse range of life experiences - from life as a lawyer in London, to moving to the Costa Rican wilderness (where I've lived for most of the last 4 years - so I can give you a good insight into this country). I grew up in Australia, studied in England & France, and also spend time in Canada where my husband was raised. I love to share my experiences in life and learn from others.

Help
We are currently looking for a workawayer to join us on our property in Costa Rica and provide general assistance around the property and home: tasks such as gardening, cleaning, some DIY, cooking, and childcare.
We have a basic bodega accommodation which is a single space, with attached bathroom (flush toilet) and outdoor shower. We can welcome a single volunteer to this space or volunteers in campers.

Accommodation
The accommodation is a single-room old bodega (6m x 3m inside, with 6m x 3m outdoor covered space). There is an attached flush toilet and outdoor shower. The room contains a futon pull-out bed, single-burner stove and mini fridge, and a shelf. There is electricity, water and fibre optic internet connection.
Additional facilities: we have a 5mx5m outdoor communal deck space for yoga/meditation etc, and lots of outdoor jungle to roam. The deck is near to our house, a small wood cabin, which is up the hill from the bodega. Guests have access to the shower and kitchen in our home.
What else ...
We have a large property with jungle, creek, and private waterfall. During time off it's a lovely land to explore!
We are also not far from bus routes taking you to local beaches (bus stop is 10min drive down dirt road/40 min walk) Hitchhiking is common and safe around here. We are happy to share rides when we go out to make getting around easier for you.
