  Description

  We are a couple and we have been working for about ten years in the Ticino mountains. We mow 7 hectares and we create gardens. The place is an old hamlet composed of 17 houses (barns, stables, "dwellings") in the restoration phase. It is located in the Malvaglia Valley which is a little-known wild valley in the Italian part of Switzerland, Ticino. The nearest train station is Biasca. The hamlet is located at an altitude of 1500 meters and the place is very peaceful, it is a mountain agriculture that fits perfectly into this natural and alpine setting. There are rivers, trails to enjoy the surrounding mountains. The project is currently under construction, maintenance of the meadows, landscaping of gardens, construction of dry stone walls. We work on meadows of high ecological quality.
  
  Nous sommes un couple dans la cinquantaine et nous travaillons depuis une dizaine d'années dans les montagnes tessinoises. Nous fauchons 7 hectares de prairies de grandes qualités écologiques et nous agrandissons chaque année notre jardin potager. C'est une agriculture de montagnes qui s'inscrit parfaitement dans ce décors naturel et alpin. Le lieu est un ancien hameau composé de 17 maisons traditionnelles en pierre (granges, écuries, "habitations") en phase de restauration. Il se situe dans le val Malvaglia qui est une vallée sauvage peu connue de la partie italienne de la Suisse, le Tessin. Le hameau se situe à 1500 mètres d'attitude et l'endroit est très paisible. ll y a de nombreux sentiers pédestres pour profiter des montagnes alentours et rivières pour se baigner.

  Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

  We offer to share our agricultural knowledge in the mountains and we are nature lovers. We are open to exchanges, curious, delighted to share and exchange. During our travels, we have also worked and learned a lot from this kind of exchange. The hamlet is not accessible by road (5 min. walk), it was uninhabited until recently. This hamlet has a history, a story of simple life, without comforts that we also like to share. We are nature lovers, we observe it willingly. We share with pleasure our agricultural knowledge in the mountains. We are open to exchanges, curious, delighted to share. During our travels, we have also worked and learned a lot from this kind of exchange. This hamlet has a history. It was inhabited until recently by brothers who lived there year-round without any comforts. The objects still present bear witness to this. We love to share the history of this place.
  
  
  Nous sommes des amoureux de la nature, nous l'observons volontiers. Nous partageons avec plaisir nos connaissances agricoles en milieu de montagnes. Nous sommes ouverts aux échanges, curieux, ravis de partager. Durant nos voyages, nous avons également travaillé et appris beaucoup de ce genre d'échange.
  
  Ce hameau a une histoire. Il était habité jusqu'à récemment par des frères qui y vivaient à l'année sans aucun confort. Les objets encore présents en témoignent. Nous aimons partagé l'histoire de ce lieu.

  Help

  The help you will be asked to do is to help make hay. The tools used are the rake, the fork, the motor mower, the brush cutter. We are mainly looking for people to work with the rake and the fork. The slopes are very steep, it is quite arduous work that we all do together, depending on the weather. If the weather does not allow haymaking work (rain, risk of rain, etc.). We have gardening, logging, and meadow cleaning jobs or even preparing a good meal. These jobs are always done in groups and are organized in the morning depending on the weather.
  
  Le travail qui vous sera demandé est d'aider à faire les foins. Les outils utilisés sont le râteau, la fourche, la motofaucheuse, la débroussailleuse. Nous cherchons principalement des personnes pour travailler au râteau et à la fourche. Les pentes sont très raides, c'est un travail assez pénible et il faut une bonne condition physique. Les autres tâches demandées si besoin et selon météo sont l'entretien des prés, l'aménagement de jardins, la construction de murs en pierres sèches, le bûcheronnage et même préparer un bon repas. Ces travaux se font toujours à plusieurs et s'organisent le matin selon la météo.

  We speak French and Italian. We also speak English for easy communication. Nous parlons le français, l'italien. L'anglais est maîtrisé pour des échanges simple.

  Accommodation

  The accommodation is spartan. We offer beds and bedding, but in unrenovated houses, in barns. The living conditions are rudimentary. There is no electricity (a small solar panel is available for phones), there is no bathroom (we wash at the fountain), we use composting toilets. Before contacting us to live this "timeless" experience, you should be aware of the simplicity of the place and the lack of comfort. We offer 3 meals a day. These meals are simple but hearty. We cook everything in a balanced way and we favor fresh and local products. We love convivial moments around meals. Suggestions and participation in meals are welcome.
  
  Le logement est spartiate. Nous offrons des lits et de la literie mais dans les maisons non-rénovées, dans les granges. Les conditions de vie sont rudimentaires. Il n'y a pas d'électricité (à disposition un petit panneau solaire pour les téléphones), il n'y a pas de salle de bain (nous nous lavons à la fontaine), nous utilisons des toilettes sèches. Avant de nous contacter pour vivre cette expérience "hors du temps", il faut avoir conscience de la simplicité du lieu et de l'absence de confort.
  
  Nous proposons 3 repas par jour. Ces repas sont simples mais copieux. Nous cuisinons de tout et de manière équilibrée et nous privilégions les produits frais et locaux. Nous aimons les moments conviviaux autours des repas. Les propositions et la participation aux repas sont bienvenues.

  What else ...

  We don't have Wi-Fi, but we're happy to share our connection. The nearest train station is Biasca, then the bus will take you to Malvaglia-Filovia, and from there, you'll take the cable car to Dagro. We'll then pick you up by car (20 minutes). During your free time, you can relax and enjoy numerous hikes in the mountains. Climb to the Quarnei Hut at an altitude of 2,000 meters and bathe in the mountain rivers. You can also descend to the Ticino plain, visit beautiful towns, or swim in one of the nearby lakes. Please note: we limit car travel.

  La gare ferroviaire la plus proche est Biasca, ensuite le bus vous amène jusqu'à Malvaglia-Filovia et de là, vous prenez le téléphérique jusqu'à Dagro. Ensuite, nous venons vous chercher en voiture (20 minutes).
  
  Pendant votre temps libre, vous pourrez vous reposez, faire de nombreuses randonnées en pleine nature, dans la montagne. Monter à la Cabane Quarnei à 2000 mètres d'altitude, vous baignez dans les rivières de montagnes. Vous pourrez aussi descendre dans la plaine tessinoise, visiter de très jolies villes, vous baigner dans un des lacs des environs. A savoir, nous limitons les déplacements en voiture.
