    Description

I am a 78 year old Japanese woman living on my own in rural Hyogo. I am wearing a kimono in the second picture. My house is nestled in the mountains of Hyogo, in a countryside village on the outside of a small town which is surrounded by rice fields and rolling forest hills.

I have three children, and two of them live very close. My older son and his wife (American) run an alternative school. My younger son is into glass artwork. He is also a workaway host.

I have a wide range of interests that I will be happy to share with you (music, yoga, tea ceremony, languages).

My daily routine starts at 5:30 in the morning everyday and I encourage you to join me to experience a new routine. I want to start morning work by 9:00, so please be ready before.

If you want to experience authentic Japanese rural life and learn about traditional Japanese culture surrounded by nature then I believe you will enjoy your stay here.

/!\ Please don’t contact me more than three months in advance . /!\

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

While you stay here, you can experience a wide range of activities (tea ceremony, yoga, Kendo, Wadaiko and many more).
As it depends on time periods and personal commitment, ask me at the beginning of your stay for the whole list and we can talk about it together.

I love learning different languages, such as Korean (elementary), French (intermediate), English (fluent). If you want to learn Japanese more seriously, we can designate some time regularly for language lessons so you can make good progress.

I also play the piano, the violin and the guitar.
Once a week members of our local community gather and enjoy singing and playing music together.

During the pandemic, some of my friends and I started an online network, where members with similar interests can practice or learn together regularly. Our activities include music, meditation, yoga, tea ceremony, learning Korean and English, Non violent communications, etc.

My dream is to create a vibrant community where people from around the world can come together to explore Japanese culture and language while sharing their own backgrounds and language!

  • Help

    Help

There is a range of projects needed to be done around the house and garden. The project I would like the most help with is developing and tending to my organic vegetable garden. I want to work together as much as possible.
It would also be great if travelers could help me with my computer's minor problems too.

You are free to explore as much as you like but as it’s a shared living environment, we take turns cooking and cleaning up after the shared meals.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

I have a separate small building connected to my house with three bedrooms and a single room in my house, as well as several other rooms available including tatami rooms.

Please tell me your dietary restrictions. Unfortunately, I can't host vegans.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

My house is a short drive from the station.
I have an electric assisted bicycle and two bicycles you are free to use.
The closest supermarket and bus stop to the town centre are a 10-minute bike ride away or a 30-minute walk away.

Please keep in mind that as it is an old house, it can get cold in winter and hot in summer. I do have aircon/heating but it doesn’t cover the whole house.

No smoking and drinking in the house.
