Despite not having any particular experience with kids in my background, I had the opportunity to stay with Megumi-san's family and take care of Miku, Sora and Sera for about two months. That was truly one of the most wonderful experiences I've had the opportunity to live through so far. Megumi-san is a thoughtful and sensible host, and the kids are cute and extremely affectionate. Being 2 years old, Sora and Sera are still babies, but they are very clever! They understand a lot of English and can speak a lot of words themselves! Miku is a great big sister, always helping out with the twins when she can and instinctively taking care of them when one of them cries or is upset... even by negotiationg at times!! Which I thought was extrmely cute but also moving in its own way. Everyone loves to play-pretend the most, Sera being the doctor and Sora the patient, or Miku being the mom and Sera the baby, and especially when it came to playing only with Miku in the afternoon, her play-pretend stories get so interesting you cannot help but be curious about where they'll end up going! Playing with everyone was always fun, and this experience gave me the opportunity to take care of the three cuties as if they were my own little sisters. When it came to Miku, though, my favorite part about spending time with her was talking about her day, asking her questions, see what she wants to be when she grows up, etc. It was fun to hear her answers and witness her reasoning for things, and for a 4 year old, I think she's extremely clever. Though we spent most of the time playing in all ways possible, my understanding of her got clearer by each passing day, and by the time I had to leave I think we got to know each other pretty well. I like to think that in the months that I spent in the family, Miku and me truly became friends, and I already miss her quite a lot :( What's more, in times of need, the mom was always available to help, whether it be a difficulty related to the family-life or an external problem. Indeed, when I got stranded in the city due to a snowstorm, the mom did not hesitate to always check up on me through chat and to eventually pick me up when there were no other solutions available. She drove for half an hour to pick me up and take me back home safely, and for that I'm very grateful. I think this speaks volumes about the kind of person that Megumi-san is and how much you really become part of the family once you join the experience. I am also a vegetarian, which could have proven difficult since Japanese cuisine is mainly meat based, but Magumi-san handled it well, cooking delicious meals every time and making sure I had a nice intake of protein every day. The dad also took us skiing at some point, which was extremely fun! The workload is divided fairly among the workawayers and we all had the opportunity to go on trips and visit around, even getting multiple days off in a row at times! The house-work is simple and easily doable💪 as I already said, the kids were always fun to be around, and getting to witness their development by each passing day can't help but make you feel proud as well! Through the family, I also had the opportunity to witness first hand traditions such as the Setsubun and the Hinamatsuri, and I'm extremely grateful for that. Even though I had to leave early because of an exam coming up sooner than I expected, I wish I could have stayed longer, and I will miss the family immensely!

Ahhh...the sweet soft spoken sounds of this sophisticated smart subject of Germany, were sometimes a strain for my fading hearing, but with a little repetition, communication became easier during the short stay Elina had at the 'beach'. Between rain showers and sunshine, of monsoon weather, she laboured wet, hot and energetically to assist me in taming my jungle growth and building such a pile of trimmed vegetation outside the property, it drew complaints of being an eyesore. (After one day!). The back breaking (my back) task of garden weeding was quickly accomplished and we found time to scoot about the Tablelands and see a few places of its featured beauty. Elina was sharp enough to pick up the game 'Bugga' and beat me twice in a row.....and left without the possibility of any re-match. That's just one reason I would be happy to see her return one day and a sentiment that all new hosts can discover.

Chiara stayed with us for 9 days and was a wonderful volunteer teacher. She was very dedicated and always put great effort into teaching the children. Chiara was patient, kind, and created a warm atmosphere while teaching. She also helped cook meals, and the food she made was absolutely delicious. The children enjoyed learning with her and felt very comfortable around her. She was friendly, responsible, and easy to live with. We truly appreciated her help and would happily welcome her back anytime. 😊

I have too much to say about this place but I will try to keep it short-ish. My partner and I originally planned on staying a month but ended up loving it so much we stayed an extra 3 weeks! This place instantly felt like home and was a much needed cozy place to relax from our travels. Jojo has to be one of my favorite hosts i have ever had. He is as chill as a cucumber, one of the most genuine kind guys, and did a lot for us to make it a great experience. We recycled fishnets, cleaned the beach, local fish market and were always brainstorming new ways to help the community. Jojo is mostly down for anything and is open to you taking on whatever projects of your interests and skills. I got to build a bog bridge with natural and recycled materials, making a trail connecting the workshop to the beach! He also taught us some basic welding skills and as long as you respect the workshop and take care of the tools he lets you create almost whatever you want! He has two really awesome local employees as well. Afiq is his right hand man who cares a lot about the project and is also very knowledgeable and patient when it comes to teaching you things. He also helped me make a knife with a driftwood handle i will now carry with me always. The neighbor zakkir is the chef and was always whipping up some delicious food, plus is just a great dude with good tunes. You will for sure want to save his recipes! Jojo was very well connected to the community and we were always invited to something. We went to martial arts performances, parades, cultural events, four wheeling, boat rides, 6 weddings and more during our stay here! I also learned some of a malayu song and we all performed it live at 3 different restaurants! We really felt like part of the community getting coffe in the morning at min's place, and teh tariks and the end shop by sunset. I went cycling regularly with the chefs dad usop and got to explore so much of the area! I feel it's impossible to repay these guys and all they did for me during the stay. I now consider all of them my brothers and dear friends and already miss them a bunch. This project is so worth checking out and I can't wait to come back someday to see how far it has come and how it continues to help the locals and international voulenteers.Definitely come here if you can. It might surprise you. Thank you jojo, afiq and zakir! Love you guys (in a family way). Oh and Azlan is pretty cool too.

The loveliest family you will come across on workaway! Arana and Nick were amazing hosts alongside Bruni and Minnow. They have such a beautiful space with lots of experience and connections to offer. They have set a high standard for workaways for us going forward. Arana and Nick are both super knowledgeable and passionate in all things off grid and eco friendly. They have created the most special environment around them and are such a big part of an even more special community that you may have the honour of experiencing. We have left feeling very inspired and with our hearts full from the two weeks we spent there.

Dear Finnbar, Thank you so much for choosing our project among all the places in the world. It truly means a lot to us that you decided to share your time, your energy, and your talents with our community. Having you here was a wonderful experience for everyone at our school. From the very beginning, your presence brought enthusiasm, positivity, and a genuine spirit of collaboration. We are deeply grateful for every single detail you contributed to the project — from helping with promotions to participating in classes and engaging with the students. Your willingness to be involved and support the activities made a real difference. Our students had an amazing time with you. They truly enjoyed the opportunity to learn, share, and interact with someone from another part of the world. Moments like these inspire them and open their minds to new cultures and possibilities. One of the most memorable moments was definitely when you sang and played the guitar with the students. That moment brought so much joy, laughter, and connection. It was truly the cherry on top of an already beautiful experience. These are the kinds of memories that stay in the hearts of students and teachers for a long time. Beyond your contributions to the activities, what we appreciate the most is the kind and genuine person you are. Your openness, friendliness, and positive attitude made it very easy for everyone to connect with you. People like you make projects like ours meaningful and special. Finnbar, thank you for believing in our project and for sharing your time with us. Experiences like this remind us why we do what we do — to connect people, cultures, and hearts through education. Home is waiting for you here anytime!!!! Hugs

Louis stayed a week on my little farm and did I variety of work including clearing old wood and equipment from the farm, going to the dump with me. He had hands on experience with chickens and ducks, collecting egg, cleaning and care of them. He help with the cows, cleaning and moving them. He weeded and watered the greenhouse and garden. And fixing the garden fence and gates. Louis did a fantastic job sorting and cleaning the wet room. He also helped with dishes. I found Louis to be friendly and polite, and kept his wing clean and tidy. It was a pleasure hosting Louis, we had many interesting conversations around the dinner table. I'd like thanks Louis so much for his help and hard work around the farm. I wish him all the very best on your travels around New Zealand.

On n'est pas obligé de travailler trop, ce qui permet de profiter de la nature et de la rivière. En bref, je recommande à tous de passer du temps avec cette famille adorable, dans un endroit très calme et agréable. Merci pour ces dernières semaines!

Dear Freddie, Freddie, Freddie… always smiling Freddie. From the very first moment we met him, Freddie brought something truly special to our community. His kindness, warmth, and genuine spirit made an immediate impact on everyone around him. It is not every day that you meet someone whose presence naturally brings positivity, encouragement, and joy to others, but Freddie is definitely one of those rare people. We had the amazing opportunity to share time with him both inside and outside our project, and every moment was meaningful. Freddie was the first volunteer to help start activities for our school, and he did it with incredible dedication and enthusiasm. From the very beginning, he helped with promotions, conversations with students, and classes, always giving his best and making everything feel natural, engaging, and extraordinary. What makes Freddie truly special is not only his professionalism and commitment, but his heart. He connects with people in a genuine way, always friendly, respectful, and open. Our students and teachers quickly felt comfortable with him, and he created an environment full of motivation and positivity. His smile, his attitude, and his willingness to help made a lasting impression on our school. Freddie, we are deeply grateful for the time you shared with us and for the energy you brought to our project. You will always be remembered here not only as a volunteer, but as a friend and a person who helped us build something meaningful. Our doors will always be open for you. Please remember that this will always be your home in Guatemala. Come back anytime. You will always be welcome. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, and we wish you a wonderful and safe journey. With gratitude and appreciation.

Hi, it's been quite a while since I stayed with Kathy & Ged (January - February 2024) but I just realised that I never left a feedback text here. ^^ However, I still have lovely memories of my stay and remember the kind & peaceful atmosphere on the farm. Overall I stayed for a month and had no prior experience with horses. When it was only me, Ged taught me a few things on how to properly approach the horses during the feeding time and as soon as more horse-experienced travellers arrived, I made myself useful with domestic and gardening tasks. It was certainly easier that I had my own car, as the area is a bit secluded and that way I was more flexible to explore the surroundings. Thanks again to Kathy, Ged and Maggie for my lovely first workaway experience in Australia! :)

Thank you, Roger and Brenda! We had an amazing time picking plums, watching the monarch caterpillars turn to chrysalis', and visiting the Manakau Market. You are both so generous and we are very happy to have had such a great place to start our journey in New Zealand. Roger and Brenda shared so much information and enthusiasm about the area and New Zealand in general, making it a great place to get our bearings. We have to give a shoutout to Neil and the Market - what an amazing neighbor! If we were ever back in NZ we would absolutely come and say hello. Great spot, great people, and great plums.

Benjamin stayed with us for just under three weeks, and his stay turned out to be quite a bit more eventful than any of us expected. He arrived as planned, and during his first week we had two other Workawayers staying as well. The three of them worked together smoothly and things flowed really well. Not long after, life and weather had other ideas. Benjamin went to meet his girlfriend, and a series of storms made crossing the Tararua Range difficult, so it took him a little while before he was able to make his way back to us. Once he settled into any work here, he got properly stuck in. One of the bigger tasks he took on was chopping a large pile of firewood. It’s a physically demanding job that we always offer rather than expect anyone to do, so we really appreciated that he was keen to learn, practice, and keep going with it. He worked through the entire pile, and when we’re sitting by the fire next winter we will definitely think of Benjamin and the effort he put into preparing that wood. Benjamin was also very kind with our daughter and spent time playing with her, which she enjoyed a lot. During his stay his girlfriend visited us on one occasion as well. She didn’t participate in the work, but she was polite and respectful of the household. At one point things became quite lively when friends dropped by and our house suddenly filled up to around 14 people. Benjamin took the chaos in good spirits and handled the busy household environment well. He is willing to take on physical tasks, and easy to host. He’s also definitely not a fussy eater and always helps out to lend a hand in the kitchen, too. Overall we enjoyed having Benjamin stay with us and would happily recommend him to other hosts looking for someone who is capable, willing to learn, and ready to contribute.

Staying with Anny (and sometimes her mom) was a lovely wonderful experience. She's one of the kindest women I've met in Australia and she really made me feel like home. The house and the garden is beautiful, so as the places around I've visited. Anny is very flexible and easy to communicate with and that works very well if you're the same.We did some work together inside and outside the house and shared diner some nights. Likewise I had a lot of free time to spend with myself and see the pretty coasts and wildife around. I can say that I made a new friend and I am so grateful that I could just be myself around her.
