Hey, Konnichiwa! I’m Yui, an open-minded, pretty chill, and nature lover. I grew up in a historic city in Japan with my Buddhist parents.

My childhood was filled with beautiful memories. My dad, who is a monk, used to take me to a Buddhist kids’ camp every Sunday, where I learned about my religion and the importance of mindfulness and gratitude. My mom, who loves drawing, is super extroverted and excited to try everything. She passed on her joyful spirit to me, taught me the beauty of imperfection, and showed me how to be kind and genuine to others.

I’ve been studying English for a couple of years, but I am nowhere near native at all. Sometimes, I might sound impolite without realizing it, but I’d love to know when I make mistakes so I can improve!

I've played volleyball and swam since elementary school. (not anymore sadly)
At uni, I studied linguistics and childhood education, did an internship in administrative accounting in the Philippines, then took two years off to explore the world. I traveled across half of Australia with my car, working along the way, and fell in love with the freedom, people, and aussie relaxing lifestyle. Another year, I moved to a tropical island in Japan and worked at a resort during whole summer time.

After that, I got back into traveling, starting in South Asia with my best friend. I visited 6 out of 10 countries—it was an unforgettable, precious experience!

• Worked as an assistant at a cosmetic dermatology clinic for three years
• Opened my own skincare salon last year

• Grew vegetables at my grandparents’ tiny hobby farm

Working in the same industry sometimes makes me question whether I’m truly satisfied with my experience and knowledge. So, I’ve decided to take two months off from work to do something completely different. Hopefully, this journey will help me find some answers!
