    Description

    Hello Workawayers !

My name is Azlan (you can also call me Jojo), I’m a marine engineer, I’m working on a ship half of the time and doing my project the other half. But what is my project ? In 2023, I started building a house and a boat repair workshop

This initiative aims to support our local fishermen by providing a well-equipped workshop, to help them repair their boat.

    So, how can you help?

Any kind of help is needed even though you are not skilled. Cleaning the area and cooking for us is considered a help.

    DIY HELP ⚒️
Every day we are working to build and upgrade the workshop. So if you like to build things out of your hands you are in the right place. Every idea to improve the workshop is more than welcomed, you can be creative. It’s a great opportunity for you to learn new skills here. For example, all volunteers that came here learned how to weld with me.
If you have any professional skills in construction or administration it will be very much appreciated.

    MAINTENANCE 🧽
We live very close to the sea, humidity often requires significant maintenance to keep our facilities in good condition. One of the tasks is to carry out this routine maintenance, which includes cleaning and painting the establishment.

    ECO-CLEANING ♻️
Our village is unfortunately not well equipped with trash facilities, and a lot of trash ends up in nature… So once a week, we go out to collect it.
We also carry out other activities for the village, such as cleaning the fish market, public restrooms, and recycling fishermen's nets.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

I believe that an important part of volunteering is sharing culture and knowledge.
I propose having one day a week dedicated to this exchange. The goal is to have a good time together, but mainly, discover the culture through locals' experiences.
For example, I brought the volunteers to visit : some farms, village industries, a school, and even participate in a local wedding ! I really enjoy sharing authentic cultures with my guests, so I do everything to make them experience new things.

For fishing enthusiasts, fishing boats are also available with some fee. Or you can just set your rod at the jetty for free.

There are a lot of food stalls in the neighborhood where you can try the 'asam pedas fish'. Which is a local cuisine here.
