What else ...
We’re freelancers, so flexibility is key. We love nature, local culture, and meaningful connections. If you enjoy kids, languages, and exploring new places, you’ll feel at home with us!
We live in a small jungle village called San Antonio de Cumbaza, about 30 minutes from Tarapoto (TPP Airport). It’s surrounded by lush forest, mountains, and fresh air at a slightly higher elevation. Along the river, there’s a well-known waterfall called Huacamaillo — a perfect place for hiking, swimming, and enjoying the butterflies and spider monkeys.
----------------------------------------------------
Dear volunteer, if you’ve been reading up to here, thank you so much for considering us as your host family.
After some experience with volunteers, I want to be very honest with you. We live in a truly beautiful place, very close to nature and incredibly photogenic. But with that comes a rich biodiversity. That means many little creatures, especially insects and, depending on the time of day or season, mosquitoes.
It’s a tropical climate, but it’s not a place where you spend the whole day in a bikini. Nature here is real and raw.
We also love going to our land, which is our current heart project. It’s about a one-hour hike, crossing rivers and going deep into the jungle. We’ve already built a wooden cabin there with Solar Energy and we’re continuing to create a self-sustainable space. It’s right by the river, with small private waterfalls and a breathtaking view. Oh yes and if I do not reply right away to your messages, its possible that I am at the land with no WIFI laying in my hammock and getting my hands dirty :-)
It’s important to say this clearly: if you want to fully enjoy this place, you need to put on your "big-girls-pants" :-)))) and be ready to step into a more open, raw and adventurous version of yourself.
We also feel deeply connected to plant medicine and the wisdom of nature. We like to offer our volunteers the opportunity to experience this in a respectful and safe way, if they feel open to it.
These experiences can be very powerful and, at times, deeply healing and eye-opening. If you feel ready to let go of some fears, to explore parts of yourself you may not usually access, and to sit with questions you’ve carried for a long time, this could be the right place for you.
If you’re open to that, you’ll be rewarded with the most magical things. A clear, open and calm mind, bright stars filling the sky, the full moon lighting up the jungle, the sounds of nature all around you, fireflies glowing in the dark, butterflies and insects in every color.
P.S. We are also looking for someone who would love to stay with us long-term (perhaps for the full 3-month visa period). It would be wonderful to have the opportunity to connect more deeply and build a meaningful relationship over time. -
