Emmi is such a kind and jolly person and was an absolute joy to have at our farm. We looked forward to going out in the morning to see her. She brightened our day. She is intelligent and practical, and we quickly understood that we could give Emmi freedom to organise her own work. She is reliable and a hard worker, who sees what needs doing and just gets it done. One day we were pleasantly surprised to find our volunteers' kitchen well organised and labelled, as one of many examples that we're still benefiting from today. We've never met anyone who loves animals as much as her and she looked after our animals as if they were her own. She even spotted an ear infection in one of our rabbits that we had missed. Any animal that gets to be looked after by Emmi is very lucky. She's creative with a sewing machine, and repaired our clothes. She is willing to tackle any job. She will ask for any guidances if she needs it, but can also research the best way to do things she is unfamiliar with. We could trust Emmi with anything, and we really hope to see her again. We loved hosting Emmi.

I stayed for 3 weeks in Sopore and went to My New School in Baramulla. It was a great and memorable experience and I am thankful for all the hospitality and warmth. Everyone ensured I was safe and well cared for. From the first to the tenth grade I visited different classes. After a short introduction we mostly talked about Germany and India, culture, etc. The students had many questions and I in turn could ask them about their life and cultural background. The focus was on cross cultural learning, so it’s good if you can talk about your country. All in all be prepared to be spontaneous. You can contribute with whatever you’re good at or interested in. The highlight was a field trip to a park where we painted together and shared lunch (prepared by the family of a student!). For accommodation I could stay with Umars family. With them I got a glimpse of Kashmiri customs and language, food and traditions. In the afternoons or at the weekends we did some trips. We visited Wular lake, Srinagar, a remote village in the mountains, Pahalgam etc. At these places one could marvel at the natural beauty of the landscapes.

This was our first Workaway experience, and we stayed at Yoshi’s hacienda in Mexico as a family for 16 days - it was truly memorable. The property itself is beautiful, full of character and history. Yoshi is a kind and welcoming host who clearly cares about the place, his employees, and the people who come through it. The work was fair and varied. My husband did electrical work, and I repaired and painted old benches. It felt great to contribute in meaningful ways and see tangible results. Our kids really enjoyed the green spaces at the hacienda, and we all loved having a volleyball court where we played every day. We also really appreciated the daily homemade lunches that Yoshi provided for both employees and volunteers - it was a thoughtful and generous touch. Overall, we’re very grateful for the experience and would love to come back one day!

I originally agreed to volunteer at Ridiculous House for three weeks… and ended up staying for three months. That probably says it all. I absolutely adored my time there. I lived in a little wagon in the field (this was my own private space) which had electricity and heating, and even through the very wet, muddy, and snowy Devon winter (November–February), I was always warm and cosy. Most of my time was spent playing with the children, cooking communal meals, and helping organise and tidy the shared house. I really enjoyed the freedom and independence to organise my own time and volunteer hours. Dan is great at trusting you to manage your schedule in a way that works for you, which made the experience feel collaborative rather than rigid. You can fully become part of the community, or you can do your hours and keep more to yourself, there’s space for both, including quiet time in nature. I loved the social side: cooking together, gathering around the fire, and joining house meetings. There’s definitely a lot of chaos, fun, and food. I didn't have a vehicle whilst I was there but there were plenty of lifts and this didn't hinder my experience at all. But if you are wanting more freedom to explore the area this may be a bonus. As I was there in winter I mostly joined in the cosiness and running of the house but can imagine in the sunnier times you could be apart of the outdoor activities and events that happen. I would especially recommend this place to someone who is happy being around children, embraces a bit of chaos, enjoys getting stuck in, and appreciates community living. Also if you love music this is definitely the place for you!! Lots of instruments and fun jam sessions. If you’re adaptable, self-motivated and a little bit silly you’ll thrive here. And if you do get the joy of visiting please give JoJo and Kia (cats) a big cuddle from me.

Garance and Anelle spent 12 days at our farm where they helped with the routine feeding and cleaning the layer chicken, ducks, geese and the free range chicken. They also helped out mowing the lawn, pruning trees, planting some herbs to name a few. We also took them to our local village mousolla to experience iftar or breaking of fast together with the villagers. We enjoyed having them in our farm and i do hope they learn some new skills and knowledge.

Arricchente ! Se volevo descrivere questa rincontra, solo con una parola. I spent a great time there, discover la nutrizione ayurvedica, their simple but beautiful way of life. It was really interessant because we lived all the way from soil to meal; we garden, plant, take care, creat mulch, wait, harvest, clean, cook properly, season, e buon appetito ! We also try and try again to creat new receipies. Delizia torta che abbiamo fatto, miam-miam I still have its good taste in mouth. And more than that, Vida is a beautiful person with who I had good talk and laugh! Alberto is as kind as ressourceful, grazie per tutto ! Hugs !

Edina, István and Bálint stayed with us in January. They are a lovely and kind family, very helpful and interesting to be with. They helped a lot with some projects we had. They build a new compost pile, cut some trees and made firewood, changed our water faucets, did some cleaning, made wood chips, weeding,… It was very nice having them, we can recommend them to everyone and we would be happy to have them back anytime 😀 It was also nice to see how well the kids got along despite the language and age difference!

Jin is truly an amazing businesswoman, and she's very clear in what she wants, which I like. She's going to give you a set of rules, and if you respect them, you'll have a great time! The house is big, and your room will be comfortable. The scooter she gives works very nicely. The kids are truly lovely, and considering that she gives you a detailed lesson plan, it's very beginner-friendly. I also met some really cool people that then become my travel partners. To sum up, I'm very grateful to have spent this time at Jin's house.

Cidadelhe is a very special and interesting place, its small population is esencial on the spirit and history of the aldea. The nature is all around and the enviorment accompanies the hole experience. A place away from the cities and their vertigo, with a self-rythm and identity. Frank and Rodrigo have a beautiful project to bring life and make trees grow in the land thay choose to dwell. A very important election and proyect to develop through the running times and the complex relation between earth and humanity. We felt very connected to their proupose and working was a huge satisfaction. We helped in different tasks, there is a lot to do. We enjoy several conversations and topics that enriched us as persons and workers. We will be allways gratefull with Frank for hosting us and for the experience. We definitely want to go back soon! Best wishes for the Ark proyect and the beautiful Cidadelhe!

We were with Hen on her farm in January through to the end of February. We really loved our time at the farm and would recommend it to anyone who has a passion to learn about organic farming! Hen is a very knowledgable and caring person who always had time to answer any questions we had about farming and made us feel right at home from day one. During our time with Hen, we planted trees, helped care for the animals and helped do odd jobs around the farm including restoring furniture, working on machinery and doing repairs. Hen made sure we had breaks and she made sure we always had enough free time to do what we wanted. We shared a couple of lovely meals with Hen and the other people living on the farm and enjoyed her yummy food and cakes. The accomodation was a beautiful cottage to ourselves, which was modern and had everything you could need for a comfortable and cozy time there. During our time there we got the chance to watch some live music in the village hall, which we would recommend if you get the opportunity. There is lots of nature to explore and many opportunities to see birds and deer in the fields. We already miss everyone especially Pinto, Jumble and Sandra who kept us company where ever we where working on the farm and would come visit us in our time off. We hope to come back again to the farm one day. Thankyou Hen!

I've stayed with Edel and Luke for about two weeks. The first week I looked after the house while they were on holiday. This included: feeding the chickens & cats daily, letting the chickens in & out of the enclosure, cleaning the house cleaning the chicken enclosure, doing some other odd task which you have to do in a household. After that we had a few days were I worked mainly with Luke outside: cutting wood, stacking wood, weeding As well as the normal chip in of the household work. They're very organized with a spreadsheet and videos which was very nice to have! They're also very easy to get along with and open to chat to and learn more about Irish culture and different live views which never got boring. On my days off they gracefully gave me a lift to the next bus stop (or about 45min walk if you decide to walk) and I got to explore beautiful Co. Donegal! Absolutely must see. I'll gladly come back in the future! It's a great place to learn more about Irish people & culture, as well as getting to experience a bit more remote and beautiful part of Ireland.

Our stay at Xanxa's was excellent. She is a very generous woman and opened the doors of her house making us feel at home. Every day of our stay (15 days) she was paying attention to our needs. We worked at her house and her's son and doughter, making general maintenance tasks and share part of their lifes meanwhile with pleasure and joy. It was a beautiful exchange, based en the coexistence and mutual trust, as genuine as spontaneous. We are very very gratefull and would love to go back. Thank You Xanxa ana Luis!!! You hvae a beautiful family! Have a great year. We hope to see you soon!!!

I spent three unforgettable weeks in Ghana living with Pastor Issac, his wife Juliana, and four wonderful children who are orphaned or in need of support. From the moment I arrived, I felt warmly welcomed and fully included in family life. I had my own bedroom within the house compound and private bathroom facilities, which made my stay comfortable while still allowing me to experience daily life in an authentic and meaningful way. I was encouraged to try a wide variety of Ghanaian dishes, which were kindly adapted to suit my tastes. What stood out most during my stay was witnessing the resilience and strong work ethic within the home. The girls’ dedication was especially inspiring — waking early before school to sweep, and after school helping to prepare food and wash utensils, all without complaint. I was fortunate to attend two funerals during my time there and had a beautiful African-style outfit made to wear to the events. I also had a traditional Kente cloth outfit made for a special cultural celebration at church, which was a memorable and meaningful experience. Teaching at the school was equally rewarding. I worked with seven students aged 11–14, following a structured timetable and textbooks while also incorporating interactive games to make learning enjoyable. “Hangman” and “Animal, Mineral, Vegetable” quickly became favourites, and the card games I brought — Happy Families, Pairs, Snap, and Sevens — were enthusiastically received. I brought recorders from home and taught the class a few simple tunes, which they thoroughly enjoyed. Arts and crafts were particularly popular, especially colouring (I only wish I had brought more colouring books). We also tried origami and made paper fortune tellers, which the students loved. I purchased skipping ropes and footballs from the local market for playtime, and these were very well received. The children were an absolute joy to teach — warm, enthusiastic, and eager to learn, especially when lessons were fun and interactive. This was a truly beautiful and enriching experience. I would wholeheartedly recommend staying with Pastor Issac to anyone seeking an authentic cultural exchange and the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution.

We were so lucky to have met Sava and Andrea. They were fantastic volunteers and were always willing to help with any project that we had. They not only took on difficult projects with a smile, but they always had ideas on how to make it better, which I appreciated. They planted vegetable plants, did tree pruning, cleaned our natural pool, took care of our outdoor animals, installed drip watering systems, created a comprehensive garden map, planting plan and bed numbering system (which was super cool and VERY useful) as well as helping with the picking and preservation of the food from the garden. We worked very well together, and they were very conscientious in making sure that they tasks that I gave them at the beginning of each week were completed, and when they had questions, came and asked. The communication was some of the best that we have had in our 5+ years of hosting I strongly recommend Sava and Andrea as volunteers and we were so sad to see them go! Thank you Sava and Andrea for everything that you added to the garden and our family!

Sam and Fidy stayed with us for three weeks in January/February. They were a great help with forestry work and daily tasks (Sam took care of the zebus every day and Fidy lit the stove every day). Now we have to do it all ourselves again and we really notice who we are missing :-) They were able to do some physically demanding tasks for us (stacking firewood in the store, removing fences, assembling a large old cupboard, moving a cupboard to another location, etc.). Sam agreed to drive one of our tractors, which meant we could drive two tractors into the forest. That was great too! They are both friendly and interested, asked questions on various topics, and sought conversation, but they also liked to retreat to their area upstairs. We usually ate together, but they spent their free time on their own. Both speak English very well; any communication problems were more on our side. Thank you both very much for your help! We look forward to seeing you again!
