    Description

Hi! Welcome! We are a family run hospitality business located about 2 hrs North-West of Mexico city in a historic Hacienda built around 1718. Here you will not only be surrounded by ancient architecture but also by many animals and agriculture. We are also located in the heart of the Mazahua people who have a rich culture and heritage.

The Hacienda was originally founded 1718 (although some parts are as old as 1450) but since 1980 it has been a tourist destination. We can host guests as a boutique hotel, have events such as weddings, or we can even be the host for a camp of up to 350 people!

We are in the heart of the indigenous population called the Mazahuas. They have been an indigenous culture that has been in the valley of Mexico since before the Aztecs. Some of the other employees you will be working with are actually native speaking Mazahuas so you can learn of their culture and their language. While the Hacienda itself is a cultural site, we are not far from some very beautiful attractions. We are not far from beautiful towns such as El Oro with its French architecture and we are about an hour away from the Monarch butterfly sanctuary! Here you will not get the city feel of Mexico but you will get a genuine experience of rural Mexico.

Since we are a historic site we have a lot of maintenance tasks that needs to be done. From gardening to painting, you will find all sorts of jobs here. We also have a lot of animals that need feeding but also just general care. If you have skills in almost any field, plumbing, painting, gardening, your skills will be greatly appreciated here.

If you are just an unskilled backpacker though there is also lots you can do! We have tons of gardens to weed and lots of walls to paint a solid color!

This host offers a language exchange
I speak Spanish, English, and passable German. I would love to practice my German! We have about 10 staff here at the Hacienda and I know they would all love to learn better English at the least and at the most learn a new language!

    Accommodation

Since we are a hotel/venue we have a variety of lodging. You will be staying in a dormitory with others of the same sex with your own bed and an ensuite bathroom. While your room will not have a stove and refrigerator, you will have access to the employee areas where you can do your cooking. Think of it kind of like a hostel!

We have our regular employees that receive their lunch meal every day. We would add any workawayers to that list so that they would be fed.
We also have a kitchen that the workawayers will be able to use for making their own meals if they want to.

    What else ...

The Hacienda is a beautiful place and if you do not stay long then you will most likely find enough to entertain you here. However, if you o want to wander out, there is plenty of public transportation that can take you into town, to El Oro if you want to have a tourist experience, or even take a bus straight to Mexico City.

Since the Hacienda is a large place you will have your choice of spending time alone or hanging out with other employees or other workawayers.
