NOTE: This 2025 spring/summer we're still hosting workawayers just in the week from JUNE 15th to 21th! Please write if you are available in those days, thank you!
For autumn 2025, we're considering workawayers in second half of October / first half of November.

Ciao, I am Davide, I have an old family Trullo (a traditional dry stone house with conical roof) surrounded by a land full of pine trees, that I am bringing back to life, to create a beautiful nature place that will host artistic projects, workshops, dance events... and possibly a part of it to tourists in the future.

I'm looking for uncomplicated travelers that would love to spend some days in Puglia countryside helping with some seasonal Trullo maintenance, like cleaning, painting, and building things with wood, recycled pallets etc.

I works as a theatre actor/director, organizer/teacher of Contact Improvisation dance events in Italy, and IT developer.

PLEASE don't send requests for periods outside the available ones in the calendar, sorry but we really cannot host outside of them!

The travellers will experience the life in Puglia countryside, and enjoy staying in an old and traditional Trullo immersed into a pine trees wood, learning the traditional maintenance procedures of such characteristic house. They can explore this interesting and naturalistic part of southern Italy as well, full of enchanting small towns and large clean beaches.
I speak English, Italian, Spanish, so language practicing is welcome.

The place is in quite good conditions, I want to refresh it and create a good standard of living, and enjoyment of the nature around. In order to do this, I am looking for volunteers that can help in:
    - painting the exterior walls and the Trullo (traditional white paint needs to be refreshed almost every year)
    - cleaning the green spaces
    - house maintenance and cleaning
    - small decorations of interior and exterior spaces
    and other small duties.

Moreover, part of the project is to realize 3 wooden outdoor toilets and showers, so would be very welcomed someone that can work with wood (also recycled pallets) in order to create the structures for them, or with pipes and sinks for the hydraulic part. Should be something simple and rustic.
The big project includes building a wooden dancefloor in nature, so in case you have some specific skills in doing this, please state it in your request!

I plan to do this in 1/2 weeks periods during May/June and October/November, creating a nice small group of workawayers (maximum 4 places are available in different rooms); would be also useful if someone can cook meals for everyone during this period, maybe in turns.

Ideally I would love to have handy people, creative and pro-active, a bit artistic, feeling connected with nature, dance or somatic disciplines, yoga... the space is ideal for that :)
I'd love to get help from passionate people, nature lovers or artists to share the life in the trullo, meals, experiences and beautiful sunny days in southern Italy nature.

The volunteers would work together for 5/6 days per week, for no more than 4/5 hours a day, with a free schedule; the rest of the day is free. You can enjoy staying in beautiful italian countryside, visit the nearby Martina Franca town, or explore the wider Puglia area, including many free beaches (your own or rented car, motorbike or bike is recommended to get around more easily).

    Accommodation

Guests can sleep in the Trullo, we have 2 extra rooms with 4 single beds or 2 double beds. I provide bedding and towels. You are also free to camp on the land between the pine trees if you wish!
There's one bathroom that is shared, and the kitchen. We also have a big living room with fireplace where you can relax, and hammocks beetwen the trees where you can rest enjoying the nature.
A typical italian breakfast and one meal (brunch/lunch or dinner depending on the working times) are provided. The other meal is self catering, or with sharing of food expenses; you can of course also go out for lunch/dinner (the nearest town is 2km away, reachable by foot or by bike).
The house is in the wild nature so you can enjoy trees, meadow, birds singing and beautiful sunsets on the rooftop! Sometimes you can meet also a fox and small wild animals that live in our land.
There are many nice paths for quiet walks around many other Trullos, farms, fields with cows and other domestic animals - some neighbours have also horses.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

The Trullo is located in the countryside of Martina Franca, 2km away from the town center; Martina Franca is a touristic town famous for the traditional Trullo houses (close to Alberobello that maybe you've heard of), and has a beautiful old district all made in white stone. The town is full of restaurants, groceries, mozzarella shops, bakeries, supermarkets, banks, pharmacies, any kind of shop. It's possible to reach it on foot, but is better you have your own/rented car, motorbike or bike.
Sometimes we may decide to go together to some folkloristic event around, if happening, or trips around the area.
Within 30mins distance by car you can reach the closest seaside. Having your car is recommended for maximum independency (parking is possible in the peoperty or nearby).
I like so much to spend time with international guests (for a few years I've run a big hostel close to Naples) and exchange my knowledge and experience, but my availability for shared activities out of location depends of course on the amount of work I will have to do.
