An amazing experience at our homestead vineyard in Castel Focognano-Rassina, Italy

  Description

  We are Rhea (primary teacher), Jei (beekeeper) and Liam (little son), we’re living in the countryside since more then 15 years, in a close relationship with nature and animals.
  After sharing houses whit other people and traveling a lot as Workawayers in different countries, we finally found our place.
  In September 2020 we moved at a traditional farmhouse in Tuscany, that we share whit our wonderful neighbors. We often collaborate whit them in small or big projects, and they also host volunteers.
  It is located in the suggestive valley of Casentino, on the hills at circa 350 mt above the sea level and surrounded just by woods and fields.
  It is 25 km distant from Arezzo and 100 km from Florence. The nearest village is at about 10 minutes walking and have good train connection to Arezzo, and also direct buses to Florence.
  Whit this new project we would like to bring in our small reality people who still travel and are looking for rural and traditional.
  The little farm includes ca 2 hectares of land, whit a vineyard, some fruit trees, a vegetable garden, ca 50 hives, two cats and two dogs. We would like to build as soon as possible a hen-house and also a stable that will host some sheep and a donkey, to produce the fertilizer for our plants.
  The work varies depending on the seasons, and is mostly agricultural, construction and babysitting related.
  We don’t expect any special skill from the volunteers, just love to learn, to participate and being outdoors.
  
  
  Un’ esperienza tra vigne ed orto nella magica Toscana.
  
  Siamo Rhea (insegnante di scuola primaria) e Jei (apicoltore), da più di 15 anni viviamo in campagna ed in stretto rapporto con la natura e gli animali, in situazioni collettive che ci hanno permesso anche di viaggiare e fare esperienze come volontari in vari paesi e diverse realtà.
  Da settembre del 2020 ci siamo trasferiti come coppia a un casolare tradizionale in Toscana, che condividiamo con i nostri splendidi vicini con cui collaboriamo e che ospitano a loro volta volontari. Si trova nella suggestiva valle del Casentino, sulle colline a circa 450 mt di altitudine, circondati da boschi e campi. Stiamo a 25 km da Arezzo e 100 Km da Firenze. Il paese più vicino è raggiungibile a piedi in dieci minuti e ci sono una fermata del treno per Arezzo e gli autobus diretti per Firenze. Con questo nuovo progetto vorremmo portare nella nostra piccola realtà chi ancora viaggia ed è alla ricerca di conoscere situazioni rurali e tradizionali.
  Il piccolo podere comprende circa 2 ettari di terreno, con una vigna, alcuni alberi da frutta, un orto, ca 50 alveari, due gatti e due cani. Vorremmo al più presto costruire un pollaio ed una stalla per ospitare delle pecore e un asino per produrre il concime per il nostro orto.
  Il lavoro è legato al variare delle stagioni ed è prevalentemente agricolo, di costruzione e babysitting.
  Ai volontari non è richiesta nessuna specifica competenza, solo voglia di apprendere, partecipare e di stare all’aria aperta.

  Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

  Learn about traditional agricultural activities related to the vineyard and the winemaking;
  share our and yours traditional recipes.
  We would like very much to do language exchanges/language classes to learn (Jei) and improve (Rhea) our English.
  In your free time you can discover the beauties of the Casentino valley like the sacred mountains of the National Park, the rivers, the villages, the monasteries and the restaurants whit delicious food. Arezzo and Florence are nice day trips from here.
  
  
  Conoscere le tradizionali attività agricole quali la vigna e la vinificazione;
  condividere tradizionali ricette, le vostre e le nostre.
  Ci piacerebbe molto fare scambi linguistici/corsi di lingua per imparare e migliorare il nostro inglese.
  Nel tempo libero gli ospiti possono scoprire le bellezze del Casentino come le montagne sacre del parco nazionale, fiumi, borghi, monasteri e ristoranti di cibo tradizionale, Arezzo e Firenze.

  Help

  We are a private homestead only producing for our own consumption and for our family. The help needed varies according to the season. During spring and summer we mostly need help with the work in the greenhouse, in the vegetable garden, in the vinejard and in the flower garden .
  In autumn and winter harvest the grapes and make our own wine, we cut and arrange the woods for the winter, we prune the vinejard and we seed the green manure.
  
  In every moment of the year we also need help whit our building projects.
  The next projects on which we’ll need help are:
  -build fences for animals
  -build a wooden house
  -renovate the winery
  -realize a flower garden
  -maintain and improve the house
  
  Finally we have got a little son and so we need some help with him, babysitting.
  
  
  Il lavoro è legato al variare delle stagioni, nella tarda primavera e l'estate ci occupiamo prevalentemente dell’orto e del semenzaio, della vigna, del giardino e del taglio dell'erba, in autunno ed inverno ci occupiamo della vendemmia e vinificazione, del taglio e della sistemazione della legna per l’inverno, della potatura della vigna e delle semine invernali.
  Durante tutto l’anno, inoltre ci dedichiamo alla realizzazione dei tanti nuovi progetti che vogliamo realizzare. I prossimi sono: recinti ed alloggi per animali, montaggio di casette di legno, ristrutturazione della cantina per il vino, realizzazione del giardino, manutenzione e miglioramento della casa.
  
  Infine ci serve un piccolo aiuto con nostro figlio quindi un po’ di babysitting.

  Accommodation

  The accommodation is in a private room whit double bed or in a caravan, it depends on the season. The bathroom and the kitchen are shared.
  We eat everything, also meat, as much as possible biological and according to the season. Most is not produced by us is bought from other local farmers or producers. All the meals are shared.
  
  
  L'alloggio varia in base alla stagione: stanza privata con letto matrimoniale oppure roulotte, bagno e cucina condivisi. Mangiamo di tutto, anche la carne, il più possibile di stagione e biologico, ciò che produciamo e prodotti di zona, i pasti sono condivisi.
