Description
Hi, I'm Dieter and I live alone in a traditional Danish allotment garden (kolonihave) in the beautiful coastal town of Svendborg.
For the past two years I've been gradually transforming the garden and improving the property. It's an ongoing project with lots of different tasks, and I enjoy seeing the place develop little by little.
I'm a trained carpenter, and over the years I've also worked as a photographer, graphic designer, teacher and in several people-focused jobs. I enjoy practical projects, learning new things and meeting people from different backgrounds.
For me, Workaway is about much more than getting help with a project. It's about sharing experiences, exchanging ideas, working together and hopefully having a few good laughs along the way.
Guests stay in a cozy little wooden cabin in the neighbouring garden. Two bicycles are available, and the beach is only about a 10-minute ride away. Svendborg is a wonderful place if you enjoy nature, the sea and a relaxed atmosphere.
I also share the garden with my friendly cat, who will probably come and introduce herself.
If you enjoy being outdoors, don't mind getting your hands dirty and like meeting open-minded people, I'd be happy to welcome you. -

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
I enjoy meeting people from different countries and learning about their cultures, traditions and everyday life. I believe that good conversations while working together or sharing a meal are one of the best parts of the Workaway experience.
I'm happy to share what I know about Denmark, Svendborg and the local area, and if time allows we can visit the harbour, beaches or other places nearby.
I also enjoy hearing about other people's lives, travels and experiences. For me, cultural exchange is about meeting with curiosity, respect and an open mind. -
Help
The main project is to clear and improve the outdoor areas around the main garden house.
Typical tasks include:
Cutting back trees and bushes.
Removing vegetation growing into and around the buildings.
Carrying and stacking branches, logs and timber.
Pulling weeds and general garden maintenance.
Collecting, sorting and piling up garden waste.
Splitting and stacking firewood.
Occasional small repair and maintenance help around the property.
The help is varied and mainly takes place outdoors. Some tasks are physically demanding, while others are lighter, so there's usually something for everyone.
You don't need to be a professional carpenter or gardener. Practical experience is always a plus, but enthusiasm, common sense and a willingness to help are much more important.
Help hours are either 4 hours a day for 5 days or 5 hours a day for 4 days, depending on what suits us best. -

Accommodation
Guests stay in a small, cozy wooden cabin located in the neighbouring allotment garden.
The cabin has electricity, running water and Wi-Fi. The internet connection is perfectly fine for everyday use, but it should not be expected to be high-speed.
Duvets, pillows and bed linen are provided, so you don't need to bring your own.
There is a small and fairly basic kitchen with everything needed to prepare simple meals.
Please note that the toilet and shower facilities are shared with other members of the allotment garden community.
Two bicycles are available for guests, making it easy to reach supermarkets, the beach and the centre of Svendborg. The coast is only about a 10-minute bike ride away.
The accommodation is ideal for people who enjoy simple living, nature and a relaxed outdoor lifestyle rather than luxury.
One shared meal is provided each day, usually around lunchtime. It's a great opportunity to relax, enjoy a meal together and get to know each other.
The cabin has a refrigerator and a small, basic kitchen. A selection of basic food items is available, so you can prepare your own breakfast, dinner or snacks whenever you like. -
What else ...
During your free time you can explore the charming town of Svendborg, visit the harbour, relax at one of the nearby beaches, go swimming, or take a bike ride through the beautiful countryside. The South Funen Archipelago is one of Denmark's most scenic areas and offers plenty of opportunities for hiking, cycling and enjoying nature.
Two bicycles are available for guests, and supermarkets, the town centre and the coast are all within easy cycling distance.
I appreciate people who are respectful, tidy and enjoy a relaxed atmosphere. We don't need strict house rules – common sense and consideration for each other are more important.
Please remember that this is an allotment garden community, so we respect our neighbours and keep noise to a reasonable level, especially during the evening.
I prefer people who are positive, easy-going and don't mind getting their hands dirty.
If you have any questions before or during your stay, just ask. I want everyone to have an enjoyable experience. -
