    Description

Hello! Welcome to Vancouver Island. We are Danielle, Russ and our kid Rio. We do have a tenant also living in their own cabin here. We have a 5 acre hobby farm. Most of the space is dedicated to our two trail riding ponies and we also are building up our organic fruits and vegetable production. We are also creating “nature patches” by planting native trees and shrubs on our property, to improve and enhance biodiversity.
There is a sweet little “glamp” site for single or couple to stay free with a couple hours of work per day. Work includes manure collection, weeding and planting. Possible other yard and home work to help.
Explore Vancouver Island from here. Hiking, camping, golfing, surfing, biking (skiing in winter). Everywhere and everything is within a few hours drive : Cape Scott (Port Hardy) at the northern tip to Tofino in the west, down south to Victoria. There’s also many islands to explore. Cities like Victoria and Nanaimo for entertainment, as well as many smaller communities. Our local city is Courtenay with several surrounding towns and villages (craft brew pubs, shopping, artisanal foods, farm markets, summer music festivals etc etc).

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Living on Vancouver Island our family primarily speaks English though Rio has been through French Immersion. They are extremely interested in learning German.
Danielle is an avid gardener and pony rider. If people are interested in riding that is possible here. Danielle is willing to take you on a few local adventures. But having our place as home base you can do much exploring.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Accommodation is a cute tiny cabin with deck and/or space to tent. A large cot is provided. It is set up with a bit of electricity. There is an outhouse and access to water. Travellers would be welcome to join us for morning coffee and some evening meals. Shower/laundry in the main house (and any meal you would like to cook). We will expect people to be mainly self reliant for their own food and entertainment. There is some fruit and veg growing that will be available. There will be zero tolerance for smoking or fires (except for campstove).

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Danielle works part time at a nearby native plant nursery. Russ works away in camp a week on/ week off. Rio works (full time) at a car dealership. We are very close to the beach and forest trails. The ferry to Denman Island is nearby (with some shopping/food/gas available at the ferry). The Comox Valley has a lot of recreational activities- Mt Washington ie 20min away as are nearby towns of Courtenay, Cumberland, Bowser and Qualicum. There is local transit that can take you to Courtenay or to Nanaimo (a bit limited).
If you’re willing to give a little help, you will have mostly “free time” to enjoy the Island. Travellers would be welcome to join us on outings.
