Description
Our organization aim to improve cohabitation with the wolf by helping farmers in at-risk areas. Volunteers guard/watch the sheep herd at night to offer a concrete support to the breeders/shepherds.
Through this program, we wish to make volunteers available on the mountain pastures. Extra "eyes" on the mountain pastures to prevent wolf attacks. This support is offered to the breeders and also allows an awareness on the functioning of the agriculture in Switzerland and the problematic generated by the presence of the predator.
By setting up this project, we wish to offer the beginning of a solution which could favor the cohabitation with large predators, with respect for nature and the environment.

Notre association souhaite améliorer la cohabitation avec le loup en venant en aide aux éleveurs sur des zones à risque. Les bénévoles gardent le troupeau de moutons de nuit pour offrir un soutient concret aux éleveurs.
Au travers de ce programme, notre association souhaite mettre à disposition des bénévoles sur les alpages. Des «yeux» en plus sur les estives afin d’empêcher les attaques de loups. Ce soutien est offert aux éleveurs et permet également une prise de conscience sur le fonctionnement de l’agriculture en Suisse et la problématique engendrée par la présence du prédateur.
En mettant sur pied ce projet, notre association souhaite offrir un début de solution qui pourrait favoriser la cohabitation avec les grands prédateurs dans le respect de la nature et de l’environnement.

You will have the opportunity to meet people from all backgrounds! This project encourages the cohabitation with the wolf but create also bridges between the pastoral and urban worlds.
You will be able to use quality tools that are difficult to afford, such as high-performance thermal camera. You will have the chance to see all kinds of animals like deer, hinds, foxes and maybe even wolves. Without any doubt, you will live an experience rich in emotions in often difficult conditions but in the idyllic landscape of the Swiss Alps.

Tu vas avoir la possibilité de rencontrer des personnes de tous les horizons ! Ce projet est pour la cohabitation avec le loup mais aussi pour créer des ponts entre le monde pastoral et citadin.
Tu pourras utiliser des outils de qualité et difficilement abordables comme des visions thermiques très performantes. Tu auras la chance de voir toute sorte d'animaux comme des cerfs, des biches, des renards oui peut-être même des loups. Sans aucun doute, tu vivras une expérience riche en émotions dans des conditions souvent difficiles mais dans le cadre idyllique des Alpes Suisse.
Help
You work at night to allow the shepherd to rest. You stay close to the herd throughout the night and make regular rounds to ensure a constant presence and activity on the mountain pasture.
Equipped with thermal imaging camera, you observe the surroundings of the herd to prevent a possible wolf attack. Powerful flashlights and whistles are available to scare off the wolf if it approaches the herd. The human presence is a great asset to dissuade the wolf from attacking.
The volunteers are always in teams of two or more. This allows them to take turns for the surveillance rounds and to be able to rest when the other is working. The surveillance starts at sunset and ends at sunrise, so the number of working hours depends on the season.
The team speaks English, but we do not ensure that the volunteer with whom you will be doing the watches is bilingual, so a great capacity of adaptation is required.

Tu travailles de nuit pour permettre au berger de se reposer. Tu restes près du troupeau pendant toute la durée de la nuit et fais des rondes régulières pour garantir une présence et une activité constante sur l'estive.
Equipé de visions thermique, tu observes les alentours du troupeau pour prévenir une éventuelle attaque de loup. Des lampes de poches puissantes et des sifflets sont à disposition pour effrayer le loup s'il s'approche du troupeau. La présence humaine est un grand atout pour dissuader le loup d'attaquer.
Les bénévoles sont toujours en équipe de deux minimum. Cela leur permet de se relayer pour les heures de surveillance et de pouvoir se reposer lorsque l'autre travaille. Les surveillance se font du coucher du soleil au lever du jour, le nombre d'heures de travail dépend donc de la saison.
L'équipe encadrante parle anglais, mais nous ne garantissons pas que la personne avec qui vous ferez les veilles soit bilingue, une grande capacité d'adaptation est donc demandée.

Accommodation
The organization covers several mountain pastures, the type of accommodation varies according to the mountain pastures.

We will provide the basic equipment on the camp (mattress, cooking stove, basic food, etc.). Additional information about the equipment will be given in detail at the registration.
Pets are not allowed. Some of the sheep flocks are guarded by dogs, and a pet would interfere with the work of the guard dogs.

Notre mettons à disposions le matériel de base sur le campement (matelas, réchaud pour cuisiner, aliments de base, etc.) Les infos supplémentaires quant au matériel seront données en détail lors de l'inscription.
Les animaux de compagnie ne sont pas acceptés. Certains troupeaux de moutons étant gardés par des chiens, un animal de compagnie nuirait au travail des chiens de protection.

Since the work is done at night, you are free to do whatever you want during the day. The base camp tent (or caravan depending on the camp) is available for rest and the surrounding trails can take you on wonderful hikes!

Le travail étant de nuit, tu es libre de faire ce dont tu as envie durant la journée. La tente du campement de base (ou la caravane en fonction des campements) est à disposition pour se reposer et les sentiers aux alentours pourront t'emmener sur de superbes randonnées !
