    Description

We are creating a yoga centre/ecohealing retreat in the heart of the Dominican rainforest. The 2017 hurricane season set us back by destroying our newly built yogashala. We have over 3 acres of land surrounded by forest reserve and bordered by a small river. The project is off the grid and we hope to be completely self sufficient by growing our own fruits and vegetables. Primarily we are looking for carpenters/natural builders to rebuild the yogashala and some new accommodation. We have a stock of beautiful hardwoods from the surrounding forest of trees that fell during the hurricane. We also need help in the garden. We focus on living simply and in harmony with the nature.

This is an invitation to immerse yourself in pure and pristine nature. We cook on fire and live simply. Dominica has an abundance of plantlife, tropical flora and fauna. There are 365 rivers, waterfalls, hot springs, sulphur. This is the Nature Isle of the Caribbean. The retreat centre will dedicated to the practice of yoga and natural healing with the many medicinal herbs and bush to explore and experience.

We are primarily looking for carpenter/natural builders. We have many repairs after the passing of hurricane Maria. The main building which is a small roundhouse has a reciprocal roof which needs repairing. We also need to totally rebuild the yogashala and create some "handmade" organic shelters as accomodation. The wood for construction is sourced from the surrounding forest. We hope to limit our use of concrete and build with the abundance of natural materials we have around us.

    Accommodation

Accomodation will be in a wooden roundhouse. Food will be mostly vegetarian. We grow our vegetables in our garden and have chickens providing us with fresh eggs. Water is pristine and pure from the river. The surrounding area produces mainly dasheen, citrus, banana, plantain, coffee and cacao.

Not far from the centre is the beautiful Emerald pool, and Spannys waterfall. Dominica is blessed with an abundance of rivers and waterfalls, and has hiking trails all over the island. Dominica is also famous for whale watching and free diving. If you like living close to nature then this is perfect. Not ideal for somebody who likes all their creature comforts and a fridge! This is roots style. We are a married couple with our two young children.
