Description
The Hostel is a two minute walk to perhaps the best skiing in the United States, as we are located adjacent to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Grand Teton National Park is just one mile away, and 55 miles from Yellowstone National Park. The Hostel offers exclusively private rooms, attracting both domestic and international travelers. For 50+ years we have been a part of Jackson Hole ski culture, and have provided an affordable option for summer travelers.
The Hostel has a 9 year old cat Lionel who hangs living the best life, and sometimes will sleep in staff rooms!Types of help and learning opportunities

The access that the Hostel in Jackson Hole has to hiking, kayaking, climbing, skiing and our cat, Lionel Richie, is pretty spectacular. There are a lot of people in Jackson Hole trying to go for casual hikes, swims, and ski tours, but also a lot of people trying to become world-class. While some of the staff like to work those second jobs that pay really well to get more money (yuck), most prefer to get after their next outdoor adventure. Being a unique lodge, the Hostel attracts a lot of cool guests, especially in winter, who can be fun to hang with. A great summer night has a lot of hanging out at our BBQ pit after a free concert at the Village Commons, or a gondola ride to cooler air and stellar views at 9000 feet.

Help
As of now, we are fully staffed for the fall and upcoming ski seasons. If a position opens back up, we would be looking for Workawayers that can stay at least 3 months, and preferably a full 7 months.
For our overseas Workawayers, we do require a valid work visa (essentially, a J1 student visa, a green card, or dual citizenship including US citizenship) to be considered for a position. Sorry, we cannot consider those looking for "volunteer work" on a tourist visa, those on a B-1 visa, nor on a H-2B visa, etc. We typically would consider acting as a J1 visa sponsor only for the summer season (May thru September), which we start planning for only beginning in February.
In ski season, being a skier or being eager to learn to ski helps, but is not essential!
The work is mostly housekeeping - cleaning rooms, bathrooms, changing sheets - and occasional maintenance projects. Typically there are up to five shifts a week. Summer is busier at around 30 hours a week, but the other seasons are more chill at about 20 hours. We start at 9am and go until about 1pm to 3pm based upon time of year/how busy we are. During the winter we start housekeeping at 10am to allow for a morning ski lap. We are looking for Workawayers who bring a productive attitude. With a classic older building we like to surprise guests with clean rooms and friendly, focused travel advice. Powering through the day's duties gets you out after it yourself even sooner! Those interested and able to work the front desk eventually can get trained as positions come available.Languages spoken

Accommodation
Our staff rooms here at the Hostel have two people per room, storage space, and a bathroom with shower. We also have a staff kitchen, laundry, tea, coffee and organic coffee in the lobby, screaming-fast WiFi, access to the game room, and free parking passes for those who must bring their clown cars despite there being a great bus system in the valley. The Hostel pays $8.25 an hour for the first 15 hours in a work week, then $15/hour for the next 25 hours. Additional benefits include discounted ski passes, discounted bus passes, and an end-of-season staff dinner. No one here will judge you if you put all your earnings towards climbing gear and filling out your ski quiver!
