Description
Are you a handy and self-motivated individual or duo craving a unique New Zealand experience?
We're an outdoor-loving, work-from-home couple, seeking assistance for a few weeks on our stunning 4-acre property on Kawau Island, a hidden gem in the Hauraki Gulf. We split our time between the island and Auckland, grateful for both urban energy and island tranquility.
If you have experience in homesteading, gardening, landscaping, home improvement, painting, or general maintenance, you'll thrive here! Comfort with hardware tools and equipment is essential, and some experience with boats and ocean life would be a bonus.
In return for your enthusiasm and skills, we offer more than just a place to stay:
Enjoy a private annex of the house with an en-suite bathroom and mezzanine area, perfect for relaxing and recharging.
Experience the rhythm of island life, with a mix of shared meals and access to full kitchen facilities.
Discover rugged coastlines, beautiful native birdlife, and stunning walks and swims right from your doorstep.
Come make our island paradise your home away from home and leave a lasting mark on a truly special place!Types of help and learning opportunities

We're eager to share our unique island life and connect Workawayers with Kawau Island life.
You'll have opportunities to join us for meals or drinks or depending on the time of the year, enjoy the local Boating Club, visit the historic Mansion House and cafe, and explore wonderful walking tracks. If conditions and time allow, we could take you out on the boat and get in a few fishing excursions.
We're passionate about sustainability and keen to share our knowledge in creating a resilient island property. You'll gain practical experience in water management, coastal gardening, native planting, and general rural upkeep. We can also offer insights into house, boat, and marine maintenance, plus a deeper understanding of New Zealand's unique culture and history. We're both business professionals in property and marketing respectively and always happy to share experience.
In return, we're excited to learn from you! We look forward to gaining fresh perspectives on our projects, understanding different cultures through your stories, picking up new skills, sharing English if youre looking to practice or improve yours, and even practicing our German or French. We believe in a rich, cultural exchange and look forward to learn alongside you.Projects involving children

Help
Your valuable help will contribute to:
Island Conservation: Participate in native planting, invasive weed control, and coastline protection efforts to preserve our unique island ecosystem.
Property Enhancement: Tackle projects such as house painting, deck refresh, wharf maintenance, pathway improvements, tree felling, and various upgrades to our island sanctuary.
Some tasks we will all pitch in and work together and other times we can split off, share skills, or you can work on the island without us a few days - depending on a combination of time, skills and intensity of task.Languages spoken

Accomodation is a spacious self-contained double bed apartment with gorgeous views over the ocean on the lower floor, with en suite bathroom and separate mezzanine level. If the duo are not a couple, the mezzanine can be used as a second bedroom.
There are facilities to bbq and to eat on the outside deck. Full kitchen facilities are in the house which is easily accessed by a few stairs.
Food will be a combination of shared meals, made by the hosts, or together. Some meals can be taken separately as wished and there may be times the hosts won't be there and cooking and food will need to be made by the visitors. What else ...
There are daily ferries to and from the mainland and wonderful towns and places of interest to see and experience.
Our home, "The Lookout," truly lives up to its name, perched high to capture those incredible views. Reaching it involves a winding climb of around 200 stairs from the water's edge. Don't worry about heavy lifting – an electric winch handles all luggage and goods!
