Description
Hi and welcome to Nook Nook Farm with your hosts Mirella and Manny, and our two children Luca and Yara!
Nook Nook means bird's nest in the local First People's language, the Djaara people. Our lovely home and 20 acre hobby farm is a nesting ground for so many native birds and native animals such as echidnas, koalas and kangaroos, and everything in between, and we are honoured to share it with them. We care for this land using agroecological, organic and regenerative practices such as biodynamics, permaculture and syntropics, We grow an abundance of delicious fruit and vegetables, and we have established a small vineyard in 2025.
Manny is a Central Highlands of Victoria local having been born not too far away in Romsey and growing up from a young age in Melbourne which is just over 1 hour away by road or train.
Mirella is from the metropolis of São Paulo, Brasil and has been in Australia for over 20 years. You'll experience much Brasilian music, colour and joy thanks to Milè!
We love music, good food and humour and have plenty of Italian influence to go with the Brasilian and Australian culture in our house.
Manny works in the climate action and ecosystem regeneration space and Mirella teaches global studies at a university in Melbourne.
We love our little slice of paradise nestled in the hills of the Central Highlands in south-eastern Australia - the nature, the local community and the abundance are things we love to share and we welcome you to come and live, learn and laugh with us.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Let's talk about social activities. No pressure of course if you're looking for a quiet stay but if you're feeling social then you're in luck - we have an amazing community of friends locally and there are regular gatherings, dinners, fantastic parties and swims at local fresh water lakes such as Daylesford Lake and many others across the region. We also love going to the Hepburn Mineral Springs Bathhouse in the cooler months.
We are blessed to live right between the fun towns of Daylesford (20 mins) , Castlemaine (20 mins) and Kyneton (10mins). There's great food, live music and other cultural offerings aplenty. And the famous cultural city of Melbourne is just over an hour away by car or train.

Help
Staying with us you would help out with whichever seasonal tasks are happening around the property, and with general tidying up after meals etc. You're welcome to cook on occasion of course, we always love to learn about your cultures and favourite food!
Some typical farm tasks would be planting out and maintaining our no-dig garden beds, tending to the orchard and vineyard, making compost, making biochar, harvesting and preserving produce, and bringing treats to our chickens and cows!
We love teaching people how to do these tasks and how to understand and integrate practices like permaculture and syntropics in to everyday life.

Accommodation
We have a comfortable guestroom inside the house which has a large queen bed and an additional single bed if you're travelling in a group. It has an en-suite bathroom with toilet, shower etc.
In summer we have had people stay in a tent in one of the beautiful nooks outside.
We love food and by that we mean real, whole and organically grown food. We will be providing 3 meals and day of homegrown and locally sourced vegetables, fruit and meat from our local organic farmer friends. We live in a very special part of the world for accessing ethically and regeneratively grown produce and we love to share. We would also be delighted to help you cook your favourite dishes as part of cultural exchange. We can source most ingredients locally or from Melbourne, so if you have favourite dishes and some stories to go with them, we'll happily be your kitchen hands any time!
