    Description

We are a small community composed by 5 adults and one small child, living together near the town Nisa in North Alentejo. We believe in a slow, self sustainable, cooperative way of life and we try our best to live that way.
Surrounded by nature with a small river running through the land and the typical "montado" ecosystem, we have developed a few experimental agroforest areas and permaculture gardens. Also since we arrived, we did some eco-building infrastructures to be able to live and work on this land and our currently building and renovating.

In the community we like to explore handcrafts, arts, music and just enjoy nature.
You can enjoy the river, swim, do some bird watching, hikes. or bike rides... Nearby there are beautiful sites and villages, like Barragem de Póvoa e Meadas, Marvão, Castelo de Vide, Beirã.
Each week we also have Capoeira classes and you are welcome to participate in the events we have on the land each month.

    Help

We can either be all working on the gardens/agroforest or on some ecobuilding. A few times in the week we also dedicate to our own personal projects.
So a typical day would be starting with something more physical to warm up the body (like digging, pick up manure, etc) and then doing some team work, like building with wood or straw, planting, pruning, weeding... There are times where each person is also working by their own. We are glad to teach you about everything we do at our land!

    Schedule: 9:00am-2pm (may need adjustments)
Then lunch with the whole community and free afternoon.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

For accommodation we have rebuilt a stone ruin where there are two beds in a small mezanine. The house is simple but with the necessary. At the first floor there are a communal kitchen/living room.
Our toilets are outdoor dry toilets and we are currently building a hot shower.
We run by solar power, which means that after some days without sun, we can run out of electricity (especially in winter).

We provide all meals, but vollunteers cook their breakfast and dinner, for lunch we eat all together. On your days off our meals times stays the same, and you are free to share lunch with us, if you want. Our diet is vegan and sugar free, mostly local and seasonal food and try to be as zero waste as possible.
All your hygiene items need to be organic biodegradable, because all the water we use goes directly into the soil and can contaminate water, animals and plants.

We expect from the volunteers proactivity, interest in doing your tasks and make it happen.
There are somethings that are common to everyone like washing dishes and keeping the kitchen and toilets clean after each use.
