    Description

We are a couple living in Lake Atitlan looking for help with our projects in the town of San Pedro La Laguna. An all-rounder type of position where one day you could be working renting electric scooters out, being an extra hand in the veterinarian clinic, attending to property management at the air BnB or assisting at our vegan smoothie bowl cafe plus other odd jobs.

I am originally from Australia but my partner, Pablo is a successful Guatemalan business man living at the lake for 9 years. We love this town and to share it with those enthusiastic to explore this culture of living in an indigenous Mayan tourist village.

You will receive accommodation, transport and allowance. Because of the training we will prefer a minimum stay of 8 weeks. We can have couples or friends travelling.

We employ indigenous Mayan from the surrounding villages in each project/business who are the main staff. We only have work exchange volunteers to do tasks the local people can not do, and they can help you with cultural/language exchange if this is something you are interested in.

You can practice your English and Spanish, we are well connected to a lot of the community and events including invites to any live shows with Pablo’s band, you’ll be meeting other traveller’s all the time and be in the backpacker community easily. Our town has many Spanish learning schools around if this also takes your interest while you are here. We have SUP boards to play with on your time off to use in the lake, a bicycle and on occasion may invite you to join our family for a boat day/wakeboarding on our boat.

You can be learning a wide range of skills, if there is something of particular interest to learn let us know or if you have something you like doing more of we are happy to also accommodate to your strengths!

    Accommodation

We have a private studio type space that can house up 3x people, a couple/friends travelling together and an extra bed depending how many volunteers we have interested so you may end up sharing with others in the space. Lakefront access on a quiet road with all basic necessities supplied for a comfortable stay.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We supply a bicycle and occasionally an electric scooter for the business if required on shifts there. You can catch tuk tuks anywhere in town even to other towns and have boats across the lake to other villages. Transport is very accessible here otherwise you can also walk most places. There are great restaurants and cafes where we live and nightlife, something for everyone.

Hours may vary and change based on the needs of work at a given time so flexibility is important.

Please be aware living in Guatemala may mean the electricity goes out from time to time, wifi connectivity issues, low water supplies and loud noises. If you work online we ask these be done outside of the hours we require from you but most places in town have generators as back ups.

We ask for an open mind and respect to our projects, property and assets we provide you during your stay.
