Description
We’ve just opened the doors to an exciting new project in a magical place: a renovated 18th-century farmhouse nestled in the hills above Roccantica, a stunning medieval village just 1 hour from Rome.
The house, originally a sheepfold, was restored about 10–15 years ago with a self-made, creative spirit that blends rustic charm and shabby chic aesthetics. It has 7–8 bedrooms (accommodating 17–20 people), 3 bathrooms, a large communal hall with a beautiful amphitheater-style staircase, a big fireplace with circular seating, indoor climbing wall, music instruments, and calisthenics gear. We also want to add ping-pong, a projector, cold plunge and eco-sauna :)
Outside you'll find a large barbecue, a pizza oven, wide open fields, olive groves, and a fire circle for singing and gathering under the stars. From our scenic bench, you can see as far as the sea—70 km away on a clear day!
We live alongside our friendly shepherd dogs, two cats, and some sheep who provide us with fresh cheese. We make our own olive oil, cured meats, and other products using traditional, chemical-free methods. The area is surrounded by small farmers practicing age-old techniques like transhumance and seasonal mountain grazing.
🌱 Our Vision
We want to turn this farmhouse into a space for communal living and personal regeneration. Our dream is one day to host open a non-profit association to help people find a better way of living, reccontect with each other and with their self.
The medieval village of Roccantica is just a 10-minute walk away (you can go by road or a beautiful forest trail), and already hosts a European youth volunteer center, so there’s a vibrant mix of international and local energy in the area.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Staying with us means becoming part of a dynamic, open-minded community that thrives on sharing, learning, and building things together.
Our group is made up of people from diverse backgrounds, including startups, finance, psychology, philosophy, literature, and computer science, so there’s plenty of knowledge to exchange over a meal, a hike, or while working side by side. If you’re curious about mental health, digital tools, or launching creative projects, we’re happy to share what we know!
On the more practical side, we’re also lucky to have some highly skilled people in the team, including:
An expert carpenter and stonemason who can teach you traditional building techniques like dry stone walling
DIY enthusiasts who are always working on new projects around the house
A small-scale cheese and olive oil production operation where you can learn how to milk sheep, make fresh cheese, and understand the principles of natural, chemical-free agriculture
Beyond skills and work, what we value most is sharing daily life: we eat together, sing by the fire, exchange ideas, and build a rhythm that’s deeply human and grounded in nature. The nearby village of Roccantica is also a great place to meet locals and international volunteers, especially through the European youth projects based there.
By hosting people from around the world, we hope to learn new perspectives, languages, techniques, and most of all, to create real connections that go beyond borders and labels. Every Workawayer brings something unique, and we can’t wait to discover what you’ll bring to our little corner of the world.Help
We’re at the very beginning of this adventure, and there’s so much to do, so if you’re flexible, proactive, and creative, we’ll love having you here! Some of the things you might help with:
Maintenance work in the house
Outdoor work: cutting grass, planting trees, taking care of the land and garden
We're open to all suggestions, and this is a place where you can bring your own ideas and energy. Whether you're a builder, artist, musician, gardener, or just someone who wants to live simply in nature in a communal setting and help build something beautiful, you’re welcome.

We offer comfortable and clean rooms inside our beautifully restored 18th-century farmhouse. The rooms have a mix of regular and loft-style beds, and we always do our best to offer private rooms whenever possible, but most times, in busy periods, you'll be sharing a room with other Workawayers.
All rooms have windows that open onto nature, and the house is surrounded by peace and silence. The main bathroom is spacious and cozy, and everything is kept clean and functional. We want everyone to feel safe, relaxed, and at home here.
Our goal is to create an experience of comfort, simplicity, and high quality of life, in harmony with the rural surroundings.
🍝 Food & Meals
We provide free and abundant meals, made with a mix of delicious local products and good-quality store-bought ingredients. Much of the food comes from our land or from nearby small farms: we have our own sheep’s milk cheese, natural olive oil, and whenever possible we eat local meats, eggs, and vegetables produced without chemicals.
We cook together often and we enjoy sharing meals as a moment of connection and culture. Personally, I come from a family deeply rooted in Italian gastronomy, so I’ll do my best to help you explore the richness of Italian home cooking during your stay.
You can expect:
Healthy breakfasts (like muesli, granola, whole grains, fresh fruit, herbal teas)
Balanced and hearty lunches and dinners
Occasional pizza nights in our outdoor oven from the 1700!
Food adapted to different dietary needs when possible (just let us know in advance!)What else ...
During your free time, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to enjoy nature, move your body, and explore the local area.
We’re surrounded by beautiful hiking trails, forests, and open countryside. Just a short walk from the house, you’ll find a peaceful hermitage hidden in the woods, perfect for moments of reflection or a quiet picnic. If you love climbing, you're in luck—there are outdoor cliff climbing (falesia) spots nearby, and one of our team members is a climbing expert who will be happy to guide you. I'm also into calisthenics, so we often train together using the body and the landscape.
In about 30 minutes by car, there's a wild canyon with waterfalls where you can swim in crystal-clear water in the warmer months, it's like a secret paradise.
We also have a mountain refuge managed by a friend, where it’s possible to go for an overnight stay and experience the wilderness in a deeper way.
And of course… Rome is just 1 to 1.5 hours away by public transport! This means you can dive into the heart of the most artistically and historically rich city in the world, then return in the evening to silence, stars, and fresh mountain air.
This is really the magic of this place: the perfect blend of nature, culture, food, history, and peace.
🏠 House Vibe & Lifestyle
We live a simple, grounded life, close to the rhythms of nature. There's space for creativity, introspection, and shared moments. We ask only for mutual respect, openness, and a spirit of collaboration.
There are no strict rules, but we do value clear communication, clean shared spaces, and a general sense of care for each other and for the place. If you bring curiosity, kindness, and a bit of initiative, you’ll feel right at home.A little more information
