    Description

Hi guys, we are Mike and Julie.

We are setting up an Eco-project in Oaxaca City.

We are easy-going, open-minded people who have a passion for cooking, food, eco-friendly projects, the outdoors, the ocean and sports.

Mike is a Mexican chef and is trying to make an Eco farm to have fresh organic ingredients every day.
He's into competitive swimming, mountain biking, xc marathon and triathlon. He loves good food, nice music and meeting nice and chilled people, also having a nice chat with a coffee or a mate at any time.

Julie is new to the project and is interested in organic farming, sports (swimming and climbing), health and wellness, meditation, yoga, pilates, natural remedies and medicinal plants.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Oaxaca is a beautiful place with a lot of culture around.
There is a great deal to see in and around the city, also Oaxaca has arguably the best cuisine in Latin America. If you're in the mood for a cooking class just ask Mike about it or if you like you can be part and assist Mike at the cooking classes some days a week.
For sure he can teach you separately how to cook some Oaxacan traditional meals to enjoy and in a future you can cook it at home or wherever you be. There are also a plethora of craft villages, several top notch Zapotec and Mixtec (pre-Hispanic) ruins, colonial churches, great restaurants, cooking schools and language institutes for learning Spanish, a wonderful central square (zócalo), Old World charm, tons of delicious street food, restaurants, bars and clubs to drink and dance salsa, merengue and cumbia, etc, etc, etc.
Or, if you are into the sports you can join us training at the pool, the track, the climbing gym or the mountain. There are tons of activities to do around.

    Hi guys!

Before anything, I have to say "Thank you so much!!" to all the previous workawayers who helped me to create, improve, and make the little farm a better place. Now, it is time to evolve. So, we need volunteers who can stay at least for 3 weeks. The idea of this is to have someone to help us to improve the place and manage the ongoing projects in a regular way.

So, the idea is to keep going with this nice and grateful project involving volunteers who have the knowledge in farming, gardening, seeding, landscaping, wood construction, regular concrete construction, yoga teaching, wellness, art, etc. so, all together we can continue improving the new Eco farm and also improve the house and build and run the wellness retreat center.

At the moment, the priority for us is to complete the buildings. i.e. The retreat space, the greenhouse and a new cabin. So we are looking for people who have some knowledge of construction and enjoy physical labor.

The retreat center should be finished in the next few weeks, so around October we will be looking for people who can help to use the space in the best way, artists, yoga teachers, healers, dance teachers etc.

The farm is an ongoing project, so knowledge of agriculture, especially organic growing/spin farming/ aquaponics/hydroponics/permaculture/animal care etc. is always welcome.

As well as this, there is always work to do on the little farm e.g. looking after the animals, landscaping, planting some more seeds like: carrots, radishes, cherry tomato, zucchini, tomatoes or collect some lemons, limes, guavas, guabanas, grapefruit, etc. Everything depends on the season and all of this is in small production. Also, we're trying to develop an organic pesticide to prevent the bugs and have a better final product. As well as this, we need to improve the composting system to make it more efficient.

With some of the products what we collect, we can cook some jam, just eat them or use them for the restaurant and cooking classes when it is needed. We have 11 chickens to have daily fresh eggs and 3 dogs. The plan in the close future is to buy a couple of goats to produce some milk and cheese.

We also want to get started with preparing a space to plant some things that can be used for the medicinal plant workshops and natural cosmetic workshops.

So, there is a wide variety of projects to choose from and you are free to pick something that interests you to work on while you are here.

We are offering a small private nice cozy cabin with a single mattress bunk bed, with electricity, a retro stereo to listen to some music from your device while working or when you're chilling, outdoor simple shower and a flush toilet. Also we built a fire place with a nice grill to enjoy some drinks, "tlayudas" (Oaxaca typical food) and a nice chat in front of the fire at night times or party in the weekends.

We're located 15/25 minutes away from down town depending what time you are moving, or 10 to 15 minutes by bicycle.

The bus stop is 3 minutes walking, market, supermarket, mini-stores and laundry 3 minutes walking, basically you can find everything that you need in less than 500m around.

The place is a small ranch, it is an oasis in the middle of the city.

We're offering one meal a day, basically, breakfast, it can be some toast, fresh eggs just collected, coffee, or maybe some quesadillas with some tangerine juice.
