Hey there! My name is Andrew and I am from the United States from a region called the Hudson River Valley, about 1 hour north of New York City. I grew up in the suburbs with two loving parents, two older siblings, three cats, and a golden retriever. After high school, I attended West Virginia University and studied Recreation, Parks, and Tourism Resources. In university I discovered a strong love for Mother Earth, live music, meaningful friendships, community, healthy whole foods and where they derive from, cooking, and road trips/traveling. After university, I did my first work exchange (WWOOF) on a small scale organic farm/bakery in Vermont. It was one of the most powerful and beautiful experiences of my life. Since then, I have been traveling, volunteering, and working seasonal jobs. Also, I recently travelled to India and completed my 200hr Yoga Teacher training with an emphasis in Hatha and Yin styles! I am extremely interested in learning more about organic farming, permaculture practices, living off the grid, self-sustainability, animal and livestock care, preserving/canning, foraging wild foods/medicines, mindful and ethical hunting/fishing, intentional community living, etc.

Andrew’s skills:
- Introductory organic farming and gardening tasks such as seeding, planting, harvesting. mixing soil, composting, watering, irrigation set-up, etc.
-Animal Care...walking, feeding, and playing with dogs. As for farm animals, chickens...feeding, collecting eggs, constructing and cleaning coops and a little bit of cattle experience….feeding and fencing.
-Cooking...mostly vegetarian meals, very open to Vegan recipes, and don't mind cooking meat from regenerative/ethical sources.
-Cleaning...I can get very into cleaning with the help of some yerba mate and good music!
-Construction...I have helped on various construction projects ranging from conventional houses to sustainable tiny houses and natural building techniques.
- Yoga…instructing vinyasa, hatha, slow flow, restorative, and yin styles of yoga with groups and private classes

Where do I begin?! Leaf and Mekia are kind, compassionate, loving humans and hosts! They have created a unique, restorative, and integral space. From the very beginning of my arrival I felt such a welcoming and warm energy. The structure of a typical day usually starts with a yoga class around 7am, afterwards herbal tea and socializing, … read more meditation class around 12:30, afterwards a snack, and then a 5pm restorative yoga class. Any of these classes can possibly be combined with breath work, sound healing, chanting, etc. The work is very fair, usually 3-4 hours per day, 5 days a week. Types of work include housekeeping, general cleaning, gardening, creating art, and cooking. As a volunteer you are treated as family and have the chance to participate in most of the classes being offered. The other volunteers there were also teaching Spanish to Leaf and Mekias two sons as part of the exchange. They are super open to any types of skills you may have and can share with the community. Mekia usually cooks the meals which are delicious and typically there is tea, afternoon snack and dinner provided as part of the exchange.

I would absolutely recommend Leaf and Mekia as hosts and this place for a balanced, communicative and rejuvenating experience. I have volunteered with them several times so far and will definitely be returning soon, even just as a guest, to share these lovely moments of peace, growth, and community together.

¡¿Por dónde empiezo?! Leaf y Mekia son personas amables, compasivos y cariñosos. Han creado un espacio único, restaurador e integral. Desde mi llegada, sentí una energía acogedora y cálida. Un día típico suele empezar con una clase de yoga sobre las 7:00, después un té y socialización, una clase de meditación sobre las 12:30, después una botana y finalmente una clase de yoga restaurativo a las 17:00. Cualquiera de estas clases se puede combinar con trabajo de respiración, sanación con sonido, cantos, etc. El trabajo es muy justo, normalmente de 3 a 4 horas al día, 5 días a la semana. Los trabajos incluyen tareas domésticas, limpieza general, jardinería, creación artística y cocina. Como voluntario, te tratan como a un miembro de la familia y tienes la oportunidad de participar en la mayoría de las clases que se ofrecen. Los otros voluntarios también enseñaban español a los dos hijos de Leaf y Mekia como parte del intercambio. Están muy abiertos a cualquier habilidad que puedas tener y que puedas compartir con la comunidad. Mekia suele preparar las comidas, que son deliciosas, y normalmente se ofrece té, una botana y cena como parte del intercambio.

Recomiendo sin dudar a Leaf y Mekia como anfitriones y este lugar para una experiencia equilibrada, comunicativa y revitalizante. He sido voluntaria con ellos varias veces y sin duda volveré pronto, aunque sea como invitada, para compartir estos hermosos momentos de paz, crecimiento y comunidad.
