Description
Our place is a family holiday resort in Siavonga, Zambia. Siavonga is a small town on the shores of Lake Kariba and is known as the "Riviera of Zambia". We have just taken over management. It has suffered a decline in the last few years and needs some pepping up. Due to various factors upkeep on the resort has been neglected. But it is such a beautiful spot and just needs some tlc. Unfortunately the owners cannot afford to spend a lot of money on renovations, so that's why we need workawayers. Our project is the renovation of the campsite bathrooms. We still have international guests visiting the resort: Swiss, French, German, Australian, South Africans and Zimbabweans. A working holiday at our resort would be rewarding as you make a big difference with some painting, gardening and decorating. Whitewashing tables and chairs. Pruning trees. Thatching beach umbrellas. Decorating the camping bathrooms. We have a beach bar which is the social hub of the resort. Activities to do in your free time include walking through an authentic African market, canoe safaris, fishing, and bird watching. There are several needy organisations in the vicinity which you may want to get involved in, including several rural schools and an orphanage. Zambian people are super friendly and welcoming. As a cultural experience, Siavonga and surrounds are rich in opportunities. We have backpacker or camping accommodation. We have 5 large, friendly dogs and 5 lively children!

Travellers will feel welcomed exploring a real African market. Siavonga is in a rural area, villages are just like they have been for centuries. The Zambian people are friendly and helpful. Most Zambians can speak a few words of English and are keen to interact with tourists. Siavonga is not at all a commercialised tourist destination where a visitor would only see curios. Rather it is a real Zambian town with authentic Zambian culture.
Help
We need help with painting, decorating, making rustic light fittings, gardening, and plumbing.

Workawayers accommodation is a small chalet with bathroom en suite and rustic kitchen.
If workawayers choose camping, we will provide a tent to share between two people, mattresses, towels and bedding. In dry season (April through October) we offer a mosquito net under the stars which is an awesome experience as there is very little light pollution and the stars are beautifully clear.
We will provide 1 delicious meal per day for supper. Supper/dinner is pasta, burgers, fish, chicken or tradional Zambian nshima and relish, served with salad/veg and chips/mash. Cold drinking water will be provided but any other drinks can be purchased at the beach bar or in Siavonga market. What else ...
The big city lights of Lusaka are only 3 hours away by bus. In Siavonga you can explore a traditional African market, go fishing, bird watch, do a canoe safari, explore the islands and hiking trails around the resort. Lake Kariba is actually a dam. The Zambezi River was dammed in the 1960's to form a massive body of water shared between Zambia and Zimbabwe. Most people in Siavonga live from the fishing industry and crocodile farms. There are huge fish farms in the area as well as small, family run Kapenta (tiny dried fish, a staple food of Zambia) businesses. There are quite a few Lodges/hotels in Siavonga but we are the only one with a beach bar where people gather in the evening to socialise.
