    Description

We’re two families living together as a small community — with two curious, lively toddlers, a friendly dog, cats, chickens, a big garden, and lots of shared meals, projects, and everyday chaos in the best possible way.

Life here is full of cooking, playing, building, gardening, laughing, harvesting, preserving food, and sitting together around the table. We love welcoming Workawayers into our rhythm, and many of our previous guests have told us they felt less like visitors and more like part of the extended family.

We are currently looking for Workawayers from August onwards. The main tasks will depend a little on the season, but they include gardening, harvesting, walking the dog, making marmalades and preserves, helping in the house and kitchen, and supporting us with small everyday tasks that keep community life flowing.

One bigger project we would love help with is upgrading our treehouse. We want to make it safer, nicer, and more fun for the children and everyone who uses the garden. There may also be other outdoor or creative projects, depending on your skills and interests.

We prefer stays of around 2.5 to 5 weeks. This gives everyone enough time to settle in, get to know each other, understand the rhythm of the house, and contribute meaningfully to projects. Shorter stays may sometimes be possible, but longer stays work much better for our community life.

From 2027 onwards, there will also be a second project: the renovation of an old house that Viktoria is taking over. For this project, the weekly rhythm will be a bit different. From Monday to Friday around noon, you will mostly have free time, apart from normal support in the house and kitchen while living with us. On the weekends, we will go to the old house together and have more intensive work days there, focusing on renovation, repairs, and slowly bringing the place back to life.

Besides the projects, we hope you enjoy being part of a lively home: cooking together, sharing meals, spending time with children and animals, and joining the mix of practical work, creativity, and community life.

So if you’d like to spend a few weeks in a warm, busy, creative household where we garden, harvest, build, cook, preserve food, laugh, and work together, we’d be very happy to welcome you 🤗🌸.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Staying with us offers a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in a blend of cultural exchange, hands-on learning, and meaningful connections. We believe that shared meals are the heart of any home, so we gather around the table to enjoy delicious food, share stories, and exchange ideas. In the evenings, we often unwind with a beer or tea, talking about everything from the projects we're working on to our travel adventures and dreams.

You'll have the chance to learn practical skills, from sustainable gardening and DIY construction to caring for animals and creating something beautiful from scratch. Beyond that, you'll experience the rhythm of life in Austria, surrounded by nature and a welcoming community. We love to exchange languages, customs, and perspectives, so you'll leave not only with new skills but also with fresh insights and friendships.

This is a space for creativity, teamwork, and laughter – where every day brings something new to learn or appreciate. Whether it’s mastering a recipe, picking up a few words in German, or simply connecting over shared experiences, your time here will be as enriching as it is memorable.

  • Help

    Help

This season, we’d love your help with a mix of garden, harvest, animal, and building projects. From August onwards, there is always plenty to do: gardening, harvesting vegetables and fruit, walking our friendly dog, making marmalades and preserves, and helping with the everyday rhythm of the house and kitchen.

One of our bigger projects is upgrading the treehouse and making it even more fun, safe, and beautiful for the children and everyone who spends time in the garden. Depending on the season and your skills, there may also be other outdoor tasks, small repairs, creative projects, or practical improvements around the house and garden. And, as always, we’re continuing our little mission of cleaning the nearby river so we can share it with our beaver neighbors.

    What we’ve already done

With the help of past Workawayers, we’ve turned many ideas into reality. A greenhouse built from old windows, a colorful mural on what was once a plain wall, and a treehouse with a sky-walk above the garden are just some of the highlights. We’ve expanded the vegetable beds, set up rainwater irrigation, built homes and coops for our animals, and created magical places like a fairy-tale corner in the garden, an outdoor shower, and a cozy sauna retreat.
