Description
Join our unorthodox family - childcare, laundry and cleaning, plus your own sea-view apartment in Tvedestrand (pictures of the apartment in profile)
Hi - we’re Christian (39) and Cecilie (34), a host family in Tvedestrand on the southern Norwegian coast.
We live an unorthodox, slightly chaotic, and very friendly life. We value honesty, empathy and compassion more than polished routines. If you like people as they actually are, you’ll probably like us.
What we want most is not just extra hands, but someone who wants to be part of our family life: meals, everyday chaos, play, conversations, and the ordinary days in between. Help with the house matters. Feeling like you belong here matters more.
The children
Two children stay with us on a regular basis:
- a baby of 11 months
- a 7 year old boy
Every other weekend we also have a 10 year old and a 14 year old. All kids are boys!! Some weeks are quieter; others are full. We’re looking for someone comfortable with both a baby and older kids - and happy to be around them as a person in the household, not only as a helper.
What we need help with
Primarily:
- childcare
- cleaning
- laundry
Everyday family support. Keeping things running so we can actually be together.
Where you stay
We do not live at the harbour ourselves. You would have your own apartment with a sea view in the Tvedestrand harbour area, about a 5-minute drive from our house. Privacy and your own space, while still being close enough to come over and share daily life with us. We can pick you up if needed.
Tvedestrand is a small coastal town: harbour, sea, islands, forest walks, and a slower pace than the cities.
Who we’re looking for
Someone kind, honest and grounded, who wants to join the family rather than stay on the sidelines. Empathy and a calm way with children matter more than a perfect CV. You don’t need to be a professional au pair, but you do need to like kids, be reliable with household tasks, and enjoy being part of a real home.
We’re not a rigid, picture-perfect family. We are warm, a bit messy, and straightforward. If that sounds like a good fit, write to us and tell us a bit about yourself - not only what you can do, but who you are.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Everyday family life in a small coastal town - meals, conversation, play, and the ordinary chaos of our home.
You’ll see how we actually live in southern Norway, and we’ll be glad to share food, local habits and a bit of language. In return we hope to learn about you and where you come from.
The exchange is simple: a seat at the table, honesty, and warmth both ways. -
