    Description

We are a family of 4 living semi-rurally about an hour from Newcastle NSW Australia.
We educate our 2 children at home and are passionate about gardening and working with nature.
We always have projects going and love to go for bushwalks, bush rides and beach visits.
Our children are Finn, soon to be 9 and Kaia 6 years old.
We are bilingual having roots both in Switzerland and Australia.
I, Nicola work at home running the house and educating the children and Marius also works from home in the IT sector.
We have 6 chickens,1 Rooster and 5 bantams, a guinea pig, a rabbit and a shy cat.
We live on 2 acres outside a small town (basic amenities available, 5 min by car), there is no public transport near us and we have to jump in the car for most things. Once a week we go shopping, the kids have 2 activities and we do some community gardening.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

When you come and stay with us, you might be able to tag along to festivals we host or visit. You are more likely to get a Swiss cultural exchange than an Australian one with us :-)
We can offer skills in gardening, permaculture and other regenerative practices. We also garden with others.
We have some bush plant knowledge.
We can share cooking skills including baking and deserts.
We can share knowledge on child development and education.
    We have skills in woodworking
    We have skills in IT
You will get a cosy family atmosphere as we live a bit further away from amenities.
If you love nature experiences, walking in gardens and observing wildlife (all the colourful birds in Australia, some wallabies and Kangaroos, a rare Koala, ducks etc.) our home would be a good fit.

We hope to connect with new friends from all over the world to get some help and for our children to be immersed in new experiences.

  • Help

    Help

We are looking for some all-round help.
Ideally you are a person keen to delve into family life with us.
We will introduce you to all task and aid you until you feel comfortable doing some jobs alone.
During the week you will mostly be helping with chores around the house, looking after the children and gardening work. On weekends you would be helping with projects in the garden. We can discuss the days you will be helping out and when you have your own time.
If you can speak German or any other language or have a skill you would like to share, we would welcome you sharing that with our family.
We strive to follow nature's rhythms in our daily life.
We have Internet yet we encourage no screens when the children are around.
We like to build our own things, at the moment we're making a new chicken shelter and the cubby house needs finishing.
We're also planning a gabion retaining wall in front of the house and the children like their own projects too as well as helping out at times.
In the gardening area there is always something to do from composting, removing wild plants, planting, harvesting, drying, seed saving, creating new garden beds and planting trees to pruning, mowing etc.

We have a tiny home with a double bed and a sofa. The tiny has a compost toilet, a shower, a fridge a fully furnished kitchen and a small outside deck.

We share 3 family meals a day, sometimes that will be on the road somewhere. We will provide nourishment on working days in our case 5 days a week. We would welcome if you cooked a meal a week or joined in in preparations and clean up. We eat most foods yet we have little meat in our diet e.g once a week and can offer Vegetarian or Vegan meals.

very shy and easily scared. Once you make her acquaintance she will love a pat and a scratch. Only thing she doesn't like is to be carried around. She is very loving.
