    Description

We are about 3 hours’ drive south of Sydney. We have a small 8-acre hobby farm near the beach, on a ridge overlooking the sea with alpacas, goats, geese, chickens, and peacocks.

We're 10 minutes from Bawley Point and its many beaches, and 20 minutes to Ulladulla and 30 to Batemans Bay—both small, thriving towns. The highway is 2km down the hill, where there is a service station and a bus stop with regular service to town. We have a second car that we’re happy for our Workawayers to use once we’re confident you’ll drive responsibly. So far, all but one of our Workaway folks have been able to borrow it.

We’re in our late fifties and have grown-up kids who’ve left home. Hosting through Workaway has become one of the most rewarding parts of our lives. We value the chance to learn from people with different backgrounds, ideas, and skills—and we enjoy sharing what we know in return.

Our goal is to create an environment where everyone contributes, learns, and feels part of something—whether it’s building a veggie bed, fixing a gate, or sitting around the dinner table sharing travel stories. We host because we genuinely enjoy cultural exchange. It’s a chance to connect with people from around the world, share our way of life, and experience new ideas and perspectives. We often work alongside our volunteers and share daily meals, chats, and laughs. Every person who stays teaches us something—be it a new skill, a fresh idea, or a different way of looking at the world—and that’s a big part of why we keep doing this.

We need and really appreciate help with a varied range of tasks, which might include gardening, bushland clearing, chopping firewood, animal care, household upkeep, cooking, cleaning, and some creative tasks. These tasks vary by month and season.

You would be living in a 3-bedroom wing of the farmhouse or in a cosy private cabin/shack. We typically have 2–4 Workawayers at one time.

All food and drink is provided. We’re keen cooks, and eating well is an important part of life on our farm. Sadly, we can't accommodate vegans or those with dairy or gluten intolerances.

For a real sense of the vibe on our farm and how we operate, we think our former volunteers cover that well in their reviews—from school-leavers on a gap year to professionals in their 30s. You can read them in full or scroll down to see extracts covering: Hosts & Welcome / Local Area / Accommodation / Food & Meal Times / Work.

FYI our postcode 2539 probably qualifies for the 88 days bushfire recovery volunteering towards a second Working Holiday visa. Want to apply for a Work and Holiday visa (subclass 462) second year?

Our postcode is 2539 in the Shoalhaven Local Government area (LGA) it is considered to be part of Regional Australia and therefore potentially eligible for the 88 days requirement for your 2nd Year Visa, we have volunteer work doing bushfire hazard reduction that should qualify towards your 88 days. Please be sure to DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH on the most up-to-date information on eligibility criteria for 2nd Year working holiday Visa class 417 & 462, helpful searches to find out more might include:

"list of LGA's that have been declared as bushfire-affected' or "Bushfire Impacted LGAs"
