    Description

    Hello
Thanks for clicking on our profile!

We are family of five (parents and 3 teenage kids) who have a farm in the beautiful Adelaide Hills (near the tourist town of Hahndorf). It's a really picturesque location with stunning views and walks/hikes.

We currently have koalas in our garden, an echidna who is very shy and very big visiting kangaroos, we also have sheep, horses, a three legged alpaca, chickens, cats and two super friendly bouncy dogs (you have to like dogs!).

We previously spent two years travelling the world (visiting 28 countries), so we enjoy meeting fellow travellers and hearing their stories.

Having your own car is great but if you don't have a car we can drive you to the nearest bus stop where you can get a bus to nearby villages or into the city of Adelaide - so you can stay here and still get into the city. There are so many lovely walks here, wineries, and a pub in walking distance. It's all about getting back to nature and seeing a stunning part of Australia.

You'll be living in the very pretty Adelaide Hills. You will learn about farm life in Australia (just chickens, sheep, an alpaca, dogs, cats and sometimes cows)., gardening and renovations. I'll be speaking English and I can help with written grammar if needed as I am a teacher.

    Help

Ok the help...we bought a farm not so long ago and would love some help: (we don't kill the animals, we cuddle them). We often have a few workawayers staying at once so it can be really fun! We really enjoy hosting workawayers.

In the house we need help painting walls, cleaning up and general improvements. My husband, who is doing this, will welcome any helping hands and if you have experience working with tools that's a bonus. If you don't have these skills he is happy to show you what to do.
    OR
if you are happy to help with gardening we have a big garden and a very big veggie patch.
We also need help with general cleaning and cooking - I need help cleaning the house - changing beds, wiping down bathroom, vaccuming, and hopefully you cooking your favourite meal for us (if you happy too) ! The house is clean so it's about doing a bit every day to keep it that way.

We also have quite a few pets who need looking after - we have sheep, friendly lambs, an alpaca, chickens, cats and two crazy but sweet dogs!

Oh yes and if you are musical and can teach piano or guitar or just like to sing that would be awsome!

If you have another skill let us know.

We would love to share our evening meals and hear about your travels.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

    Bedroom in the house
OR if available, a decorated 5m bell tent with proper mattress, bedding, rugs, fairy lights (only available sometimes, weather permitting) it's very pretty and popular with workawayers who like being in comfort in nature.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

There is a great pub - walking distance from the house with good food and drinks, many workawayers finish work and in the evening walk to the pub together - it's a pretty bush walk where you can usually see kangaroos, kookaburras and sometimes koalas.

Loads of great hiking - easy and hard hikes in the area.

We are not far from Mount Lofty Summit (Lookout), Mount Lofty Botanic Gardens (these are beautiful!) and the Cleland Conservation Park (where you can cuddle a koala).

The famous German village of Hahndorf is a 7-minute drive - it's a great place to order German beer (or Australian) and eat some good German food.

Adelaide city is about 35 min bus ride. (we can drop you at bus terminal) and the gorgeous beaches of Adelaide about 40 min drive away.

We are surrounded by amazing vineyards and great places to eat.

Quaint villages of the Adelaide Hills including Stirling, Aldgate and Bridgewater are only a few minutes drive away (you can also get to them by bus).
McLaren Vale the famous wine region is less than a half hour drive too, so with us as your base, you will be able to see so much. Oh yes, I forgot to say that if you are a keen cyclist this area is where the Tour Down Under rides though. So lots of amazing scenery to see on your bike. And a big downhill cycle to the city centre on a bike path.

    Okay more about the stay:
We welcome respectful people who understand we are not a hostel, we are a family. Here are some guidelines, as we welcome people from all over the world and we understand that different cultures have different expectations:

    Meals and food:
Meals are planned (if you don't like something that's on the menu, let us know and we're happy to change it:)
We provide 3 meals a day (please supply your own snacks and alcohol) and if you'd like to cook a meal from your country - we'd love that! We even have a workawayer recipe book!! 😋 We've shared some great meals!
Please don't help yourself to food from the cupboard and fridge (the food is all bought and planned for meals each day).
We ask for help clearing up after each meal e.g. help load the dishwasher, sweep floors, wipe down surfaces and return kitchen to clean :)

    Smoking:
Non-smoking family - no smoking in the house. Smoking in designated areas outside only. You have to be EXTREMELY careful when extinguishing cigarettes as the bushland is very dry and bushfires can easily start from a cigarette. We can show you smoking areas. Please - no smoking (or swearing) in front of youngest kid please.

Please keep your work clothes for working and don't sit on sofas in your work clothes, as we try to keep the lounge and sofas clean for everyone (although the dogs don't listen :). Personal hygiene also is important- so please be considerate of others and take showers/wash clothes.

We're a busy but relaxed family, so just come and enjoy meeting a well-travelled family who'd love to suggest 'must see' places for you to visit....and hopefully you can share with us your fav places!

    Look forward to meeting you!
