Description
Hi!
We are Edda and Maarten, we are 28 and 26 years old. Edda comes from the south of Germany and Maarten from the north of The Netherlands.
What brought us from this distance together are the things we enjoy the most: living outdoor, surfing the best waves, doing hikes at the most beautiful places, teaching each other new things - like skateboarding, snowboarding or a new language - and if we are too tired to do those activities you will find us beeing creative or doing some yoga.
Edda was studying mechanical engineering and design. To fullfill her dream she was converting a empty transporter to a fully off grid house on wheels. As she met Maarten the real travel life started and (unplanned :D) still didn‘t end until now. So instead of diving into serious 9/5 working life, meeting interesting people, learning new skills and working from time to time while traveling sounded more interesting. Jobs she did along the way were for example lifeguarding, picking fruits at a bio-farm or housekeeping.
Maarten did a study as social worker but during this study was already clear that he liked it more to go on adventure. After working for a while as a social worker he quit his job and started traveling around. During this he did a lot of different jobs, like outdoor instructor, surf instructor, lifeguard or gardener. Next to jobs that he got payed he did also volunteering jobs because he wanted to get more knowledge about permaculture and building things in alternative ways.
So why did we make an Workaway account?
Because we think it is a really cool way of get to know new people, learn new things, maybe learn a new language and over all to dive in a new culture.
For our idea of life once we want to settle, we would be especially interested to learn things about building houses in alternative ways, growing your own food and living sustainable.
We hope that this gives a little bit of information of what we do, who we are and what we like!

because we live already a long time on the road, we developed already quite some 'skills'.
Edda converted her own campervan (where we are living full time in when we're in Europe. because a self converted van is sometimes in need of some maintainance, and we are keen to fix things ourself, we are already quite handy in doing those things ourself.
next to this we have skills like knowledge of permaculture and gardening, engeneering, building and creating things etc.
we are really easy going and we are good team workers, next to that we are traveling already for a long time so we are pretty good to adapt to situations and places.

Beside that Ellie and Gijs are really nice people and Ellie makes the best meals!
On top of all this he's a lovely chap to celebrate Sinterklaas. Definitely recommended.
