Description
Hello, my name is Eva, and I’m from China. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Computer Applications and even have a patent in my field. During the pandemic, I traveled across three-quarters of China’s territory. After the pandemic, I explored dozens of countries in Southeast Asia, Africa, and Europe. This year, I obtained my Schengen visa and set foot in the EU for the first time. Traveling has helped me quickly adapt to different English accents and communicate more smoothly, while also making me more open to cultural and personality differences.

I love tasting and researching cuisines from around the world, and I enjoy recreating dishes with my own innovations. I’ve taken cooking classes to learn Thai, Cambodian, Indonesian, and Sri Lankan cuisine. During my stay as a Couchsurfer in Turkey, I twice prepared dinner for 5-6 people as the main chef, receiving high praise from everyone.

I adore animals—my family has kept cats and chickens.
I’ve also renovated my own house and absolutely love hands-on work.
I’m always happy to work in gardens or vegetable patches; labor brings me joy and helps me sleep better at night.
I don’t smoke, drink, or do drugs, but I do have one bad habit—I love staying up late.

I hope Workaway will help me immerse myself in local life and experience authentic culture.

I stayed with Maxim and Klaus in Órgiva for one month (April–May 2025), a lively and diverse little town, a true cultural melting pot, to start my second Workaway. That’s when I realized what a real Workaway experience could be like.

Her Moroccan tagine was absolutely delicious—lots of fresh vegetables, chicken, and very healthy. We often shared stories about food and culture. During the month I stayed there, they even drove me around to try some of the best food in the area.

Together we went to Badlands Park, the national park, and explored heritage caves once inhabited by locals. Maxim has a large art studio, and some of her paintings have even been sold. She kindly let me use her paints and materials to create my own artwork. Every Thursday night, Maxim, Klaus, and a friend would rehearse with their band. I would make myself fresh and clean, then fully enjoy their music feast. Maxim even printed an extra set of lyrics, encouraging me to sing along.

Their orchard was beautiful. During my month there, different flowers bloomed and different fruits ripened in various spots. Whenever I worked, three little dogs and five cats from the orchard would keep me company—it was never boring. These eight animals were well-loved, polite, and each had their own personality: Romio, the gentle, loyal big brother; Merky, the sweet, affectionate one who loved attention; and Trigy, the best in shape, independent and knowing exactly what she wanted—even going so far as to pet herself.

My main work was pulling weeds by hand with cowhide gloves to protect the flowers in the orchard. Sometimes I used two machines: one push mower for large grassy areas and one carried on the back for cutting weeds in the corners. Klaus taught me many useful techniques—how to use tools properly and how to handle different weeds. It was very German, and I felt honored. On my last day, Klaus took me up a five-meter ladder to the highest point of the orchard to watch the sunset. He shared with me the history of how the orchard had grown. I was deeply moved—I didn’t want to leave, I just wanted to stay. Even the big black cat came up, asking for pets, then wandered over to the roof, looked back at me with a “meow,” as if to say goodbye, and disappeared in a graceful leap.

Even now, we still keep in touch every month, catching up like old friends. To me, they feel like family in Europe. They make me feel that I’ll never be left wandering alone—there will always be a place with open doors, waiting for me to come back.I am very grateful for this experience and would highly recommend it to any Workawayer.

This was my first Workaway, and the experience was terrible. On the first day she treated me well #redacted#, but as time went on, her attitude completely changed—she became extremely picky, never satisfied, and whatever I did was wrong. The more I did, the more mistakes she found.

She didn’t notice how clean and neat I made the warehouse after… read more clearing the grass and soil; instead, in the end she blamed me for not closing the warehouse door and kept nagging nonstop. I couldn’t take it anymore, so I told her, “We did close it. It was your husband who closed it. As for why it was open again, I don’t know.” She didn’t believe me, thought I was lying, and even called her husband to confront me. I was relieved he was there—otherwise I would never have been able to prove my innocence.

Work started at 9 a.m. and went nonstop until 2 p.m., and then in the evening, around 6 p.m., I had to go back to work around for another 1–2 hours while they feeding the animals. It was very cold in the mornings, but since I had to work on several farms, I couldn’t wear thick clothes, so I caught a cold. She began to despise me, making sarcastic remarks about how COVID-19 came from my country and that I shouldn’t be “running around.”

I wanted to cook some traditional food from my country for them to try. I had barely started, not even a quarter of the way through, when she started yelling at me, saying I was chopping too many chilies and that there would be none left in the future. Then she drove me out of the kitchen. I’m sure she had never been to Asia and knew nothing about Asian cuisine—her cupboard only had European spices.

I gave her and her husband a small gift each. Her husband was polite and sincerely thanked me, but she sneered at it. At that moment, I honestly wanted to take the gift back. My first Workaway turned into a complete lack of respect.

As for the food provided: lunch was for three people, but the portions weren’t divided equally—I always got less (she thought I was small and short, so I needed less but the heavy labor work that she gave should meet her big body standards). Even if it wasn’t enough, I couldn’t have more. For breakfast and dinner, they bought the cheapest bread—€2 for 8 small rolls. Each meal, I only got one roll. Yogurt was €2 a dozen, very sugary, the cheapest kind. One day I thought it was too sweet and left it in the fridge; she later took it out, tore it open, mixed it with something else, and gave it back to me as a meal. The farm was very far from town—an hour by bike—so it wasn’t easy to buy my own food.

When I had my period, the bleeding was heavy and my stomach hurt badly. She then increased my workload. After I finished cleaning two chicken coops and two pig-and-sheep pens in the morning, she wanted me to dig up stones from dry land one by one, haul them with a cart, and dump them elsewhere to fill holes. I gritted my teeth and endured it. What I couldn’t stand was her attitude: after I cleared a large area in two days, she sarcastically claimed it took me three days to do so little. I keep a diary and take photos to track my work—it was clear it was two days, not three. But even taking photos became a “crime”: she accused me of always checking the time while working, when in reality I was just taking clock-in photos.

On the day I left, I told her I could go whenever was convenient for her—today, tomorrow, or the day after. It was a Friday, and the next day was a Spanish holiday. I hadn’t booked a hotel yet, but I was mentally exhausted and just wanted to leave. I’m working on the farm from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.,while she suddenly stormed into my room to inspect cleanliness. I hadn’t had time to tidy up yet, so she cursed nonstop, yanked off my bedsheets, and threw my things outside. I kept cleaning until 4 p.m., while she continued yelling, as if she held endless grudges.

She wasn’t kind to people or to animals—especially with her words. At least the animals didn’t understand her and could live in peace. I stuck it out for 2 weeks, and I really admire myself for that. If you don’t take offensive words to heart and can just let them go in one ear and out the other, then maybe you could consider coming here to see for yourself. This is also what her husband told me when I was leaving.

Eva joined us on 5th April for an initial 1 month stay. Morning of 18th April she informed us she was leaving, as her visa status was about to expire !!!!!
As she clearly states on her profile, she is fully legal. This was clearly NOT the case.
We are extremely annoyed as she was made fully aware BEFORE the placement, that I was going to be away… read more

Yingzi stayed for 2 weeks at our place in Hannover. During that period of time we were traveling for one week. She helped us a lot with the housekeeping. Live as a parent can be super stressful and it was so nice to come home and everything was clean and tidy!
