Description
Welcome to Morocco!
My name is Ilyass and I run the biggest language centre in the humble Moroccan town of Attaouia. Here young moroccans come to learn English, French, German and Italian. We employ a total of 8 teachers and 1 receptionist. I have recently started hosting foreigners who can do short conversation sessions with the students to help them get the best results. Adittionally you are invited to organise social activities with the students. We don't require you to have any experience in teaching - just the motivation and an open-mind :)
These conversation sessions are so easy to do that they won't even feel like work, but as an opportunity for you to make friends with the students and learn more about Moroccan culture. They will also be eager to learn about your country and what brought you here!
Expect to have a lot of free time, which you can use to visit some natural wonders we have nearby, like the Ouzoud Waterfalls and the Iminifri Natural Bridge. Regularly I will organize camping trips to the Atlas Mountains, or tours to other beautiful places in Morocco, and you are very welcome to join. You should also try the traditional Hammam baths and visit our Thursday souk. I can also organize a workshop on Moroccan cuisine if the volunteers are interested.
Attaouia is a very traditional Moroccan Amazigh town. Away from the tourist traps of Marrakech and the restless streets of Casablanca, here you will find the true humble Moroccan way of life. If you wish to learn Arabic I will also be happy to offer you lessons.
To make sure you have the best experience possible, we will be working closely together in the school and organise weekly common moroccan dinners with all the volunteers - you will never feel lonely here :)

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
You will experience cultural exchange every day of your stay here. Wake up seeing the peaks of the Atlas mountains from your bedroom window, hear the prayers 5 times a day and watch/play football in the field next to your apartment.
At the end of the day enjoy the sunset from our rooftop, go listen to music and dance in the main square, relax in a Hammam bath, or watch a football match in a café.
You will never be bored in Attaouia, there is many interesting people here and the raw of Moroccan tradition.
The locals here speak Arabic (darija), and most also speak Tamazight and French. You will occasionally find an English speaker. Overall this is also a great opportunity for you to practice mics and gesture language when you find someone who you don't share a language with :)
If you look foreigner expect the Moroccan children to say "hi" when they see you. There aren't any tourists here so they always get happy when they see a foreigner :)
The tours I organize with the students are also open for the volunteers and will be a great opportunity for you to see our landscapes, do hiking and camping.
If you like swimming we can go to the nearby dam and spend some time there.
On Thursdays there is a big souk in Attaouia where farmers from the surrounding areas some sell their produce. It is also a part of the unique Moroccan culture that you have to experience. Prices here are very low and you will be able to live comfortably without stressing about your budget.
Now a little secret: here in Attaouia we have the best olive oil of Morocco. Once you try it, you will never forget it!

Help
Volunteers work 3 hours per day, 5 days a week.
The volunteers have 2 main tasks:
Conversation: you will do short speaking sessions with the students, which will improve their confidence in language speaking. These conversations can be either in English, French or German.
Events: you are invited to think of fun activities we can do with the students. Sports, social games, etc. Any games you can bring from your home country are welcome here :)
Above all I want you to have fun and you are always welcome to bring new ideas to the school and try different approaches with the students!
At the end of your stay you will be issued a certificate proving that you were a language teacher in our centre for the period of your stay.

Accommodation
In exchange for your help we provide you with housing: your own apartment with multiple rooms shared by the volunteers. We also offer shared dinners for the volunteers: a good opportunity to socialize and get to know Moroccan cuisine better.
We provide the volunteers with a spacious apartment. There is a big living room, equipped kitchen and bathroom. We have a bedroom for a couple and another bedroom for single volunteers. You also have a laundry machine and WiFi. We have a big rooftop where you can sunbath, do yoga, play with our dog, etc.
The apartment is in the very centre of the town, with everything at walking distance: hairdresser, gym, PlayStation club, football field, shops, supermarket, hammam, etc.
We will offer shared dinners to the volunteers weekly, as organized together with the host. Other than that you can cook for yourself or try the many restaurants we have nearby.
What else ...
If you want to go on a longer trip please let me know on advance. You can go from Attaouia to Marrakech for 3€ and from there you will have very good connections to the rest of Morocco.
Attaouia is a very safe town but if any situation occurs that makes you feel unsafe please contact me.
We ask for a minimum stay of 3 weeks because we believe this will give you time to explore all the surroundings, make friends and bound with the students.
