    Description

Please read the entire profile before applying!

Hello! We’re a Brazilian couple, 39 and 40 years old. After exploring three continents, we spent six years living in Germany and have recently embarked on a new adventure in Spain. Over the past decade, we’ve gained invaluable experience volunteering through Workaway, and now we’re thrilled to be starting our own project.

In early 2024, we purchased a beautiful rural property in the mountains near Almuñécar, Granada, in the heart of Andalusia. Our vision is to create an eco-retreat combining yoga with regenerative agriculture, rooted in permaculture principles. We’re currently at the very beginning — renovating the house and revitalizing two hectares of neglected land. We’ve just settled in, focusing on house improvements and setting up a vegetable garden.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We’re a friendly couple who love sharing stories from our travels and life in different places. We enjoy sharing meals together, learn and teach different languages, swap cooking ideas, and exchange perspectives on sustainability and community living. You’ll be part of our small team, and we hope you’ll feel at home collaborating with us. We’re excited to learn from your experiences too, whether that’s a new skill, a different cultural tradition, or just a fresh outlook on life.

    THE HELP: WHAT WE NEED
We’re looking for committed, hands-on volunteers to help with a range of tasks, like helping with painting, organizing spaces, fixing small things here and there, or assisting with light maintenance. We also spend time outdoors, taking care of the land and garden. This might involve preparing garden beds, watering plants, pruning trees, or helping clear overgrown areas. When we have multiple volunteers staying with us, we appreciate someone who enjoys cooking and can prepare simple, healthy vegetarian meals for the group. Cooking happens after the main tasks of the day.

    THE SCHEDULE AND DAILY ROUTINE
    • Help Hours: 25 hours per week, typically Wednesday to Saturday (4 days), with 3 free days (Sunday, Monday, Tuesday).
    • Start Time: We begin at 8:30 AM, but we meet half an hour earlier to organize tasks for the day. Punctuality is crucial as many tasks require teamwork.
    • Shared Responsibilities: Doing the dishes and cleaning common areas are additional tasks that everyone shares.

    OTHER IMPORTANT INFO
    • Arrival Day: We suggest arriving on a Tuesday to settle in before starting on Wednesday.
    • Departure Day: Sunday
    • Trial Period: We typically do a 1-week trial to ensure it’s a good match for both sides. If all goes well, we can discuss extending your stay.
    • Not a Business: This is a personal, non-commercial project. We’re sharing our home and exchanging knowledge and culture. No financial transactions are involved.

Our finca is a secluded rural property offering:
    • Spectacular mountain views and stunning sunsets over the Mediterranean Sea.
    • Tranquility for those who appreciate peace, quiet, and remote living.
    • Proximity to beaches, mountains, hiking trails, national parks and waterfalls
    • Charming Andalusian white villages nearby, rich in culture and history.

    Distance to Amenities
    • A 25-minute drive from the nearest village and beach, with supermarkets and shops.
    • If you don’t have a car, walking to the village takes about 1.5 hours, or you can take a taxi (about €20 per trip).
    • Please note this is a remote area: it’s perfect if you want to reconnect with nature, but not ideal if you need quick or frequent access to town.

    • Vegetarian Meals: We provide a self-catered breakfast, a freshly prepared vegetarian lunch, and basic ingredients for you to prepare your own dinner.
    • On free days, we don’t provide lunch, but you are free to cook it for yourself.
    • If you want specialty items or additional snacks, you’re welcome to purchase them yourself.
    • There is a designated fridge and pantry area where you can store personal food items.
    • We maintain a meat-free kitchen—please do not bring meat or fish to the house.

    WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We aim to create a harmonious living and working environment. Volunteers should be:
    • Over 25 years old.
    • Legally allowed to stay in Spain (with valid visa/health insurance if required).
    • Able to commit to at least 2 weeks (we usually start with a 1-week trial to ensure mutual compatibility).
    • Non-smokers, non-drug users, and respectful of a quiet environment.
    • Punctual and reliable, taking tasks seriously and respecting schedules.
    • Comfortable with physically demanding work and early mornings.
    • Happy to live in a remote area and not needing frequent trips to town.
    • Flexible with basic vegetarian meals, or willing to supplement their own dietary preferences with ingredients/snacks you buy yourself.
    • Dog-friendly, as we have a whippet on the property.
    • Prepared to follow house rules and share common spaces considerately.

We do not accept volunteers with pets or families.

    LIFESTYLE AND EXPECTATIONS
    • We work remotely in full-time jobs, so we may not always be available to socialize or entertain.
    • We are easy going and do enjoy shared meals, and chatting about life and travel. However, we also value privacy and quiet time.
    • Teamwork and Independence: After initial guidance, you should be comfortable working independently or collaboratively on tasks.
    • We encourage open communication—please let us know if you have questions or concerns.
