Eleni and Zoe welcomed me with open arms when I was last-minute looking for a host. My week flew by and I'm sad to leave this bold, bright and slightly chaotic household. Eleni needed some help with deconstructing her exhibition which was an honour to help with. I felt really appreciated in everything that I did. We had a lot of good conversations about art, purpose, life and society. Eleni is a passionate, fierce woman with a lot of wisdom and ideologies to share. The other members of the household are both expressive and full of joy. Zoe never runs out of energy and so we danced together and sang a lot of Disney songs : ). Her understanding of English is pretty good and she told me a lot about her friends and everything she likes in life. The dog Coco is a lovely, cuddly creature who is always down for a walk or a stroke. Exarcheia is a cool neighbourhood. Through this area I fell in love with Athens. Only half an hour by foot from the Acropolis, and I had lots of time to explore. The four working hours a day were really flexible so there were some days that I ran around the city all day long and some days were I stayed in and helped with household tasks, computer stuff, had fun with Zoe and walked with Coco. There's always something to do and everything is entangled so never boring times : ). Thanks for your openness, incredible hospitality and perspectives. See you in a month!

I stayed at the sanctuary for 6 weeks and it was an amazing experience. I learned so much about animals and met some truly wonderful people. The place is absolutely beautiful, surrounded by untouched nature, and you can even see the ocean from there. I also had the chance to explore the whole island during my days off, and Lanzarote is stunning. It’s an experience I would recommend to anyone. I had such a great time, with many special moments and unforgettable experiences. Liala has created a truly beautiful sanctuary. I will definitely come back!!

The wonderful island of Aegina was an experience for sure. The island is very pretty and so is the hotel when it's ready for the season. We worked mostly in painting and gardening, which was usually satisfying and sometimes frustrating to do. I am a perfectionist and very precise and that was just not a good fit with the work in this hotel. Notis is a funny guy but he is under a lot of pressure before the start of the season. He cares about the wellbeing of the workawayers; bought a kettle when we asked, arranged a personal room for a light sleeper, was generous with food and drove us to town. But he also has this hotel to open in three weeks and it was hard to meet his pace and match his expectations. When you enjoy big tasks, prefer high-speed working over precise, and perhaps have some experience in painting, this is the place for you. I wish Notis and his hotel all the best!

The two weeks we had at Sofí's farm were truly special - she is one of the most caring people you'll ever meet, and she is warm, generous and kind. She takes such good care of all her volunteers and genuinely wants everyone to have the best experience, and you can really feel this when you're working with her. Her project on the farm is really interesting, even to us who had no prior knowledge of the industry. Usually we would work from 9-1 everyday, followed by a huge lunch with Sofí and her family. Then we would have all afternoon and evening free to explore and relax by ourselves. For the accommodation for volunteers, there are two cabins a few metres away from the main house, both of which are well-equipped with everything you could need, and you're guaranteed to have a private bedroom even if there are other volunteers there at the same time as you. The farm is about a half hour walk from the main road, where buses run regularly into the town, but it was super safe to hitch lifts off passing cars to save us the walk! Overall, we were made to feel like part of the family right from the start, with lots of chatting, sharing meals, and the offer of sharing trips together. This was such an amazing volunteering opportunity and we would recommend it to anyone, even if you've never done anything similar before. Sofí truly understands the ethos of Workaway, and we feel so lucky to have spent two weeks of our trip with her.

I’ve just spent a brilliant month with Meri and Marcos. They’re both incredibly generous individuals, who love to share their knowledge. I’ve learned a great deal both about flow arts and martial arts, and about sourcing healthy vegetarian produce. The most important point of exchange, however, was about the climate crisis. They’re very knowledgeable, and have none of the delusions of our society that we use to hide the state of the world from ourselves. Be prepared to talk about the serious stuff! Understand that deep ecology, as they put it, means more than a bit of recycling: it means staring reality in the face, without illusions, and acting accordingly! The house is indeed on fire…Thank you once again, Meri and Marcos, for having me, teaching me, and for your patience with my dodgy Spanish! I wish all the best to you and your many animals, and hope we’ll meet again :)

I stayed at this stable from september 2025 to march 2026, and I had a great experience. The stable is in a beautiful location right by some mountains, and the trails for riding and hiking are endless. From the town you can take the bus to Arezzo, and from there you can take the train to other cities, like Firenze. You can absolutely explore around when you're not working. I lived in a cute and small cabin-style place on the property, which included a kitchen, bedroom and a bathroom. The work was mostly feeding, moving horses in and out, cleaning the stables and paddocks, and Andrea was teaching everything i needed to know. I started feeding at 7 and would feed in the afternoon around 16-17. Sometimes I also assisted in childrens riding lessons or walks. Alexandra was super kind and friendly, and made me feel welcome. She would usually take me on a trail ride on sunday, and sometimes we went sightseeing in the nearby areas during the lunch break. The stable is owned by a larger company that makes wine, olive oil, lots of good sauces and more, so you will for sure try some good food. I absolutely recommend going!

It's been nice in Star Istevnik, the sky is so clear without any light polution and you can see all stars. Borche is very hospitable and nice. There was not much work to do during my stay as it was winter and Borche was mostly busy, but we agreed to do some small tasks and it all passed good, there was more than enough space for other things to do in the area. There are interesting stone dolls called Kukulje in the next village Nov Istevnik, but the path is not well maintained and thus a bit adventurous, you can also go to nearby peaks from there. They are somewhere around 1300m high, but there are higher ones a bit closer to the city. Generally, the only bigger drawback of the workaway is that the description seems a tad inaccurate. At least to me when I was reading it, it sounded like there is a big permacultural garden, but based on what I have seen it is not that big and fruitful. Maybe it was a bit worse because it was winter. Anyway, I will try to come again when I pass through that area again. Also, it is hard to get to Delchevo, there are not really buses from Skopje, there is a taxi for around 8.5e, but you can also hitchhike if you are fine with spending a day so. I have done it and it has been very nice, meeting a lot of interesting people.

Tracy, Darren, Holly... and of course Leo, Rebound Ruby, Pippa, Xena, Phoenix, Silver, Sterling, Zoe, Evil rooster and all of the chickens, and absolutely not forgetting Jim and Ophelia, thank you so much for such an amazing 2 weeks at your home. From fixing gates, building fences, burning piles, painting barn doors, cleaning ponds and everything in between, we learnt so much and loved every day. We ate so much yummy food (Tracy is an excellent cook! The sourdough and granola are wow), experienced Darren's finest peanut butter cups and got completely beat at Quiddler by Jim. If you're looking for a workaway where you'll be made to feel really welcome, have great chats and live in the beautiful Okanagan, then absolutely go stay with these guys - you won't regret it.

Unfortunately, the stay did not take place, as the volunteers cancelled at very short notice before their agreed arrival date, despite having confirmed their plans and discussed travel details beforehand. I fully understand that plans can sometimes change; however, such a late cancellation can be difficult for hosts, particularly when relying on help and with very limited time to find a replacement. In my case, this was further complicated by my currently limited mobility.

My stay with Dick and Iza was nothing short of amazing. They welcomed me with open arms from the minute I got there. Their kids Annabelle, Casper and Sofia are some of the kindest kids I've met, and Anabelle will make sure that you're never bored :) They were really good at making sure I was enjoying my time there, offering different projects and making sure I wasn't working too hard and taking enough breaks. There was always (amazing) food ready to eat and times for chats at night :) I stayed for two weeks and really wished I could have stayed longer, but I'm 100% sure I'll be back.

Hosting Clara was a very cool and enjoyable experience , we matched right away in personality, music taste, conversation, and was very easy to work with her on my video and photo projects, we also had many good times as new friends. Clara always has a positive attitude and a smile over her face, she is a really nice human being, full of energy and willing to participate in all the other activities i asked her to help with , like cooking ( some very tasty breakfasts!! ) , and cleaning and i will miss very much, she became like my french daughter from across the world =) , hope to meet again in the future, wish her the best time traveling in mexico.

Leslie and Thibault are the most incredible hosts and I could not recommend them more. They are warm and welcoming, incredibly knowledgeable and hardworking and so much fun to live with. The projects I was able to help with taught me so many skills from animal handling to carpentry and everything in between. If you want to contribute to a beautiful property with wonderful people and a picturesque location I would highly highly recommend Leslie and Thibault. I’m already excited to come back and help more!

Kai was a great help (essentially covering for me when I was sick, taking care of the animals). He completed all assigned tasks independently and reliably. I would particularly like to emphasize that he is tidy and not only doesn't shy away from cleaning work, but also completes it systematically and precisely. Special thanks for that. Kai is a calm and level-headed person, which is especially important when dealing with animals. I thank him for his invaluable help and wish him all the best. Should he be in the area again, I would be happy to see him.

Álvaro's stay with us for over a month couldn't have been better. From the first message, everything was easy, and Álvaro's friendliness and availability were unsurpassed. He is a very independent person; you just have to explain what you want, and then everything gets done. He works very well both alone and in a team, helping immensely with all the necessary tasks, from manually weeding the vegetable garden, using the brushcutter to clean the garden, helping with the installation of the new solar system, painting the walls of the house, helping in the kitchen and house tasks, preparing our Airbnb cabins for guests always with a smiling face and immense kindness. I highly recommend Álvaro to all hosts and wish him the best of luck in his future adventures. He will always be very welcome here in our home. Thank you very much!! David

Grazie Komal e Eraldo 😊

Sam & Sally are exceptional hosts! They've built themselves a little paradise in nature. Both always had an open ear for us and were easy to get hold of if we had any questions. During our first week, we worked around the house, on the olive field and sitted their house for a long weekend. During the second and third week, we worked together with Sam at the old mild. There we cleared the courtyard from all-consuming brambles and built a floor inside the house. The workday and the work itself were very structured, which we appreciated greatly. All the work was never done in a hurry. Sam has a plan and a bigger picture in mind, so we always knew what our tasks were and had all the necessary tools and equipment available. We really enjoyed seeing the results of our work and experiencing the impact it has made. It was really interesting and amazing to built a floor inside a house! If there were any difficult tasks around the mill (such as moving concrete beams onto the first floor), Sam always took responsibility for them and did not simply pass them onto us just because we were the volunteers. Additionally, he always made sure health & security standards were met as good as possible. He also made sure we didn’t overexert ourselves physically, for example by explaining how to lift heavy stuff safely. This made us feel safe doing all the construction work around the mill. We also learned how to solve problems that arose during our work and make do with what we had. We worked 5 hours each day (with a coffee break in between) and then had lunch together. Sam cooked really delicious vegetarian food. Not a day went by without us asking him for the recipe. After lunch, we had free time for the rest of the day. During that time we relaxed in nature, hiked up the mountain and enjoyed the view of the Sierra Nevada, or went to the village by bike. We really relaxed during that time and felt at peace. Django, Borat and Spike were there with us from time to time, and we showered them with love. We stayed in the cozy bungalow next to Sally and Sam's house. As it was still a bit coldish in the evening, we heated the bungalow using the fireplace in the living room. Sam & Sally went grocery shopping once a week for us. You're responsible for keeping the place clean and for all meals other than lunch. Sam and Sally, thank you so much for everything! We fully enjoyed the time and felt at home in your paradise.
