We enjoyed hosting Valeska and her daughter Arwen at our farm. They were great at helping around the farm on whatever tasks we were doing and I especially appreciated your advice about my dogs and the help with training. If only you were able to stay with us longer! 5 days was too short! Thanks so much for all your help 🙏

I spent two amazing months at the rescue and left with many new friends, humans and animals. It was the first time in my life that I couldn't wait to be done with my weekend and be at work in the fields again ! A beautiful parenthesis in my life I will always remember with great nostalgia and love. I hope I will be back as often as I can. i left vegan and with the project of working in animal protection

Andrew, Is a wonderful respectful young man. It was a pleasure to have him around the forest. He respect the forest and the animals to the highest regard. He had good communication skills, a very high output with work, no questioning or complaint. Just got on with the job. His house skills are some of the highest I have had with travellers to date. Eg: cleaning his accommodation and so on. Andrew is become back anytime. Any (work-away host) would be lucky to have an all round good man to help out around the place. Andrew has display the great Irish character.

Our experience with Purcell was excellent, he is a very passionate gardener, loves getting his hands and feet into the soil. Has a lot of experience and knowledge about regenerative gardening and soil health. He always showed up on time and was ready to get started with whatever was needed in the garden. He was also very playful, and interactive with our daughter of 2 & half years at the time of his visit, singing, playing, etc. He has a big heart and a lot to share, he just needs to feel comfortable in a good environment to blossom. He taught me the basics of playing chess and we spent every moment learning and enjoying from each other.

It was lovely to have Maya staying with us. She was extremely good with our boys, helped in the gardens and orchards a lot and makes yummi food. We had some really good conversations about life and it was special to learn more from hearing about her experiences in life. She’s very independent and was always very respectful of our space and schedules. We hope you get to experience the best of New Zealand and make some amazing memories on your way. Thank you for all your help. Big hugs

I stayed in Costa Rica working for Mackenzie for 3 months in 2025! She runs a small homeschool out of her house with expat students. I taught English and Math during my stay. The curriculum is very clear so there wasn’t any confusion, but you also are given creative liberty as a teacher to adapt to student needs and focus on the process in addition to the outcome. The care Mackenzie has for her students and the students for one another was evident from the very beginning. It was such a fun and welcoming environment that encompassed the best elements of school: community, conversation, and creativity, while still maintaining expectations of effort and respect on all sides. Once a week I also had the chance to teach ESL to locals. This was such a nice and rewarding evening activity and one that I always miss when looking back. Learning a new language can be intimidating but Mackenzie does an amazing job creating a warm environment by setting up coffee and cookies for students and incorporating lots of games. In your free time off of work, you can enjoy being in a natural paradise. Nosara is a great place to be if you love nature. It is home to some of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen. There are options to hike and explore on your own. In Guiones, there are incredible restaurants and coffee shops and I had some of the best food I have ever had! Mackenzie taught me how to surf and also took me to yoga classes. She also inspired me to lean further into my creative passions, and I found myself naturally spending lots of time painting, drawing, and writing. I am so grateful for the conversations we shared. This is a very wonderful opportunity to learn about yourself and grow while meeting some amazing people and being a part of something special.

Thank you for the great experience! I enjoyed my stay a lot. I learned new things about the garden, the chickens and about a healthy kitchen. I really liked the walks in the beautiful forest and I was really lucky to see a lot of wild animals too!! Greetings Nora

I had an incredible experience at the Sanctuary and I would go back with no hesitation. This is such a great opportunity to be involved with something that matters, and makes a difference for so many animals. Noah and Patty are incredible hosts, and it was really an honor to be able to help with their mission in any way. At this Workaway you’ll be able to help with feeding and taking care of over 120 animals and make a genuine difference for the animals, as well as assisting with the goals for the property, and the overall mission. It was so great to be in a vegan environment, and be able to cook for people each night to learn new recipes and new ideas that I will keep with me. This was such a gratifying experience for me, and I highly recommend it! I’m really so grateful for my time here and I miss it already :( I will always have such great memories to look back on, and I am so thankful. We also had so many incredible game nights. It was such a pleasure to get to know the other volunteers too, who I will hopefully get to see again. Thank you so much for having me, and I wish you all the best!

Grace has been an active and caring volunteer, joining us to teach and cook with the children at home. She has guided my 6‑year‑old in English and Math, and supported disabled students at Hope Centre with coloring and crafts. On Saturday mornings, she brought music and joy to the kindergarten class. We wish Grace wonderful travels in Vietnam and Japan—may you enjoy every moment of your journey!

i loved the opportunity of housesitting such a pretty and peaceful house. the family was very understanding and available. i’ve had the chance to meet people staying in the homestay before meeting lê’s family, so i got to communicate and exchange with a lot of different people. i’ve learned a lot about the vietnamese culture. in the week i was by myself and the village isn’t really lively. its quiet, full of nature and it has all the convenience one needs (and a very cute garden coffee shop!).

Jordan and Jack arrived with a friendly smile, a respectful manner and loads of knowledge and energy! Regardless of the tasks - fertilise and top dress the lawn, empty the (very large) compost pile onto the garden, constant "leaf patrol", demolish back verandah, fix the back fence, chainsaw wood for the wood pile ... & more! - they were diligent with their work and my tools and always went above and beyond. Jordan and Jack were perfect WorkAways in every way ... except that they learned, surpassed & beat me at Rummikubs! I would highly recommend welcoming Jordan and Jack into your home as WorkAways :)

I spent a few weeks harvesting olives on José's farm. He is a kind and very knowledgeable person with whom I was able to talk about many things, and he also allowed me to share music with his friends.

I spent several weeks at Yael's farm. She was very kind and considerate, and an excellent cook. I was treated like royalty. If you want to spend some time in a relaxed and friendly environment, don't hesitate to contact her; I highly recommend her.

This was my first Workaway experience, and I immediately felt comfortable and at home with them. From the very beginning, they gave me such a warm welcome that it honestly felt less like volunteering and more like visiting friends. We shared lots of fun moments together like a trip through Vancouver and cozy movie nights that made the stay extra special. But fair warning! Hilarie is an amazing cook, and once you taste her food, you might never want to leave . And then there’s Charlie the sweetest cuddle expert on four paws, who walks politely on the leash and will absolutely steal your heart. I can truly recommend staying with them. It’s the kind of place where you arrive as a volunteer and leave feeling like part of the family.

Natalie stayed with us at the sanctuary one month, and it was a delight having her as part of the team. She is a very competent and reliable volunteer who understood the sanctuary's requirements well and carried out her tasks with a steady, consistent focus. Natalie made sure all the animals under her care were well looked out for, and she was thorough in ensuring their environments were kept clean and safe. She has a solid work ethic, follows directions well, understands instructions readily, and simply gets on with the job at hand. On a personal level, Natalie was great to have around. She has a very easygoing nature and a great sense of humour that we all really enjoyed. She got along well with the rest of the team and integrated into our daily routine with ease. We would highly recommend Natalie to any host looking for a capable and pleasant volunteer.

We had an amazing stay with Carolann on her beautiful farm. The work was somewhat physically demanding on some days but this was great as we felt really accomplished afterwards! We got stuck in driving the tractor, preparing wood stocks for the winter, herding some very cheeky stubborn cows, weeding, harvesting potatoes and even got to open up the beehives! overall a really great experience with many new skills learnt. Our daily chats also brought heaps of laughs and I can't wait to share stories of our week when we get back home, thank you very much Carolann!!

Emily spent just over a month with us at the sanctuary and was an absolute powerhouse. It is rare to find a volunteer so naturally thorough and dedicated to the small details that keep a sanctuary running. During her training period, she took extensive notes and was incredibly conscientious about getting every protocol exactly right. Emily has an impeccable work ethic. She would regularly work extra hours unasked to ensure her assigned tasks were completed to the highest standard, consistently going out of her way to do more than the bare minimum. Beyond the animal care - which she handled with genuine love and attention - she was a huge help in the kitchen. She is a fantastic cook and prepared delicious vegan meals for the team on many nights, which was a massive help to us all. There were many highlights of her stay, but her home-made tacos were a definite stand-out! Emily has a chill, relaxing vibe and is lovely to be around. She handles the sanctuary environment with a steady, capable attitude. She is a huge asset to any host, and we recommend her very highly. We would be lucky to have her back.

Vanessa was great! So willing to help and did a thorough job at whatever was needed. She spoiled us by keeping dishes washed whenever they accumulated. Any future host will be lucky to have her and I recommend her highly. Thank you, Vanessa. We loved having you! We wish you the best!

My week with Jorge and Katja was wonderful and I really enjoyed their company. Their home is beautiful and very peaceful, the garden is full of plants and Jorge though me so much about each one of them. I even made my way in the kitchen - thank you Katja for letting me interfere with your system ;) I was working mostly with Jorge in the garden, which was an absolute pleasure - he is truly the kindest person and has so many interesting stories to tell. I even discovered a new talent of mine, apparently I'm amazing at peeling Sacha inchi, a task that turned into my free time activity :) The work was pleasant and we always tried to avoid the hot sun. One day I also helped in the kitchen, which I enjoyed a lot. I had a beautiful casita just for myself, very comfortable and nicely decorated. And the washing machine had hot water - a first during my trip in South America! I was well taken care of! Overall a great experience, highly recommended!
