As my first workaway experience, I couldn't imagine a better family. Eva, Matthias and Tilda are such an incredible family that integrate you into their lives from the start. It shouldn't sound surprising that I really enjoyed my stay, as I lived with them for 3 months from February to April.
Eva is a passionate and caring person, who always
… read more looks after you and oftentimes works around your preferred working hours. She loves to talk about deep philosophical and social topics, so you learn a lot from her. Furthermore, she is an excellent cook, mostly plant-based, and you get to enjoy the outdoors with her quite often, as Eva likes to go on walks in the woods or on the beach. I was lucky enough to go clubbing with her one evening, which turned out to be one of the fondest memories I have of my trip.
Matthias seems like the quieter person in this household, but he can be loud and passionate when it comes to his favorite sport – football. We often watched games together with his friends. He is overall pretty laid back and can easily fall asleep during movie night, although he makes it up with his incredible cooking skills. I mean, he could easily be a Michelin star chef. Thanks to Matthias, I'm now fully engrossed in several Netflix series as he recommended them to me.
Tilda is a bubbly little girl, who you immediately get attached to. She loves to cook you some delicious meals in her play kitchen, as well as fighting of imaginative dinosaurs around the house. Besides the role play, we would often paint or do handicrafts and have a little snack in the afternoon – mostly yogurt and fruit bowl. I was also in charge of picking her up from Pre School every day, which always turned into singalong parties. Would recommend listening to Classic FM on the way to the school and then switching to children's songs on the way home.
Momo, the family dog, seems like the cute sleepy head of the bunch. He is so chill, except when a cat or stranger is lingering outside. As he is over 13 years old, he demands little attendance and just needs his daily walk and some cuddle time, which I was all down for.
Bandon is a little town approximately 50 min away from Cork by bus. The bus station is only a short 10-15min walk downhill from the house and the buses drive every hour or two. Other destinations include Kinsale, Bantry or Skibbereen. Prices vary according to the destination, but a student return ticket to Kinsale only costs 2€, which I highly recommend visiting. Eva and Matthias are also happy to take you around and show you some hidden gems along, just ask them.
Eva, Matthias, Tilda and Momo made the 3 months fly by so fast, because I got part of the family so fast. By the end of my stay, routines were established and characteristics were figured out by then. Even tough I was glad to be back with my family and friends, I miss all of them daily. We're still very much in contact and plan to meet up again at the end of May. Therefore, it is safe to say that I recommend these hosts to you! :)You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

Clément was with us for about 6 weeks. He mainly looked after our daughter (3.5 years old), but also helped around the house and he cooked super delicious meals. We would not want to miss the time with Lisa and are very grateful to have found her!
Our daughter Tilda, just like us, took her straight to her heart and played independently and extensively with Lisa right from the start. The two of them did puzzles, played hide and seek, played with all the dolls and animals and painted or did handicrafts.
We
… read more had a very familiar feeling at all times. Lisa also helped a bit to keep order (all these toys...) and cooked a few times, which was super delicious :)
I have rarely met such a clear, empathetic young woman with whom it is possible to talk for hours about this world or just listen to music. With Lisa you can have a lot of fun or just live quietly next to each other, very relaxed. The time was over far too quickly!
Lisa, stay as you are, you are wonderful! Have many more great trips and meet nice people along the way. If you come to Ireland again, you'll always have a place to stay with us!

I was lucky to meet Eva, Tilda, and Matthias (and Momo!) for my first workaway experience!
Tilda is a lovely, curious, and creative little girl with whom you’ll never get bored! Minding her a few hours a week, role playing, crafting, etc, you’ll soon be great friends :)
Eva and Matthias immediately made me feel at ease and included in their
… read more family. I had such a good time with them, and we had such interesting conversations ! Plus, they would gladely welcome you on little trips on week ends, for walks in the forest or afternoons at the beach.
Otherwise, if you travel by bus, Bandon is rather well connected to the surrounding cities and bigger ones such as Cork. I would highly recommend taking a 2€ return ticket to Kinsale !
Eva, Matthias, Tilda, I can’t thank you enough for the good memories! You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.
