When I think back on my Workaway stay with Claudia and David, the first things that come to mind are the chirping of crickets, watching of fireflies, and the view down into the valley and up the opposite mountainside. It was a wonderful time spent in a friendly atmosphere that Claudia and David and their lovely housekeeper Vicky create, with nice conversations, a few shared meals, campfires and Flecha and Pacha - lovely dog and cat. Of course, I also worked—I helped with finishing a cabaña (particularly painting). If you’re looking for peace, quietness and nature, this is the place for you. You have to be prepared to sleep a bit far from the nearest bathroom and power source (a flashlight is a good idea). The village has good shopping and dining options. The connections to Bogotá and the surrounding area are very good. Thanks for the wonderful time!

My friend Yade and I have been on a road trip with Jerry and his family for 10 days and we can’t express enough how thankful we are that they took us with them on this journey. Jerry and his wife are both very generous and kind hearted people, always keen on letting us have the best experience on this trip. We managed to go to Osaka, Kyoto, Kanazawa, Tokyo and Yokohama, which gave us a lot of impressions of Japan in general. We have been to Onsens, went to Universal Studios Japan, visited several main attractions in every city and were able to see the cherry blossoms in full bloom. Moreover, Jerry let us wear traditional Japanese Kimonos and Hakamas in Kyoto, which was a fun thing to experience. We also got to try a lot of good food and shared most of it so everyone could have a try. In every city we’ve been to Jerry went with us to several luxurious hotels and had me review their rooms in a short little video to show to a friend of him, who was planning to build a hotel himself. This was quite the challenging experience but it gave us an insight in a lifestyle we haven’t seen before. The kids had both a quite different character, Phillip (the younger one) being the more extroverted with a strong mind of his own and James (the older one) being a bit more reserved but very kindhearted. What they both share though is a huge interest in reading. Instead of playing on their phone they read in every spare second they had, which was very impressive for us to see. I myself had told Jerry that I harbour an interest in international business and finance, which is why he granted me the opportunity to accompany him in several business meetings and a visit with an ex-politician. I can’t be thankful enough for having had the chance to experience all that.

If there were an Olympic sport for volunteering, Ben would have taken gold, silver, and probably reorganized the medal ceremony while he was at it. Ben showed up at our hostel and somehow managed to become the backbone, front desk, social director, therapist, and part-time legend all in one. What really sets Ben apart though is his attitude. Always smiling, always helpful, and somehow always has the energy of someone who’s had 3 coffees… even when he definitely hasn’t. Guests loved him, staff relied on him, and honestly we’re still trying to figure out how one human can be that useful without being suspicious. Thanks for the good times buddy. You always have a place with us. Cheers.

We truly enjoyed having Emma with our family. She was a wonderful addition to our home. Emma is friendly, helpful, and always smiling – her positive energy really enriched our daily life. Our children loved spending time with her, especially dancing together, which brought them so much joy. We also had the chance to discover many interesting and unexpected differences between Switzerland and England, which made the cultural exchange especially meaningful. Emma is very independent and was always willing to learn new things and get involved. We especially appreciated her playful, cheerful, and easygoing way of interacting with the children. She quickly built a warm and caring connection with them. We are very grateful for the time we shared with Emma and can highly recommend her as a Workaway guest.

We are super grateful for the week we spent with Penne, Blair, Lynda, Rob, and all their lovely pets! We were given the warmest of welcomes and made to feel very at home. We had our own bedroom and bathroom and were treated to some incredible meals. We were given a list of gardening jobs at the start of the week and were allowed to work through them at our own pace which worked really well, and Penne showed us how to use many of their helpful tools. Their lovely dog Truffles would often come outside and help us work which was a treat!

We spent a gorgeous 2 weeks with Simon & Adi who gave us the warmest of welcomes and made us feel at home instantly. Amongst many other new skills learnt, we were shown how to drive the quad bike, prune trees, roast coffee beans and introduced to a wide range of TV series! Simon and Adi showed such patience and enthusiasm in sharing their vast skills/knowledge. The food and drinks were incredible, and we had a cosy caravan to ourselves but were always welcome in the house! The warmest and kindest family, we will remember our time with Simon & Adi for the rest of our lives and we are eternally grateful to them for taking us in and all the things we learned from them!

What can I say, one month turned into four. This place is absolutely magical. Gio is building something pretty special here and it is a very welcoming environment. I got to meet Gio's friends who became my friends, the Sunday jam night is extremely fun and highly recommended. I had a few experiences here and met some people who all I can say is I was a better person leaving this place I am just glad that I was able to help in some way to help Gio build what he is building and I am following his adventures and progress on Instagram and cant wait to see his dream become reality.

I stayed here for a month and didn’t want to leave at all! I really enjoyed working with the animals outdoors. It’s truly wonderful to see the horses out there, just living their lives. Plus, the mountains offer such a beautiful landscape that you can’t help but feel at ease. You can really feel how much passion Hillary puts into her retreat and her herd, which is truly fascinating. Between feeding the animals, you either clean the cabins, do laundry, or simply enjoy your break. All in all, it's no difficult or strenuous work. I was actually glad to have something to do in between. I was even lucky enough to be chosen as the laundry queen haha. However, preparing meals for retreat guests is just as simple. If you ever have questions or run into difficulties with any tasks, Debs in particular is a huge help with everything. She is incredibly friendly and was very supportive during my stay, even helping me send my winter clothes back home. I also had the chance to visit Kamloops and Sun Peaks, which I would recommend to any Workawayer, as these places offer a nice change of pace from the work on the ranch. Moreover you can also explore the area around the ranch after work, for example by walking the dogs, which we really enjoyed (I totally fell in love with the two super-duper-cuddly dogs hihi). Overall, I can really recommend this place to anyone, as it offers a wonderful contrast to the “normal city life” and you come in touch with pure nature and animals the entire time. For my part, I would be really happy to come back one day!

My husband and I stayed with Rocio and Nico for a few days in the month of March. We helped Nico with their house renovation and then Sofia had the opportunity to help Rocio with some book editing. They were very flexible with work hours. We had a very nice time with them. They offered us breakfast every morning which was very delicious! Having our own private room with a very comfortable bed was a nice benefit! Rocio and Nico are very interesting people and we learned a lot from them. They were very welcoming and the vibes in their house were great. A lot of art and a lot of good conversations. Their house is also in a great location in Valparaiso and we got to meet cool, friendly people while we were there. Public transportation was easily accessible from their house. Perfect for cultural exchange. We had a great time with them and it was hard to leave! Thank you for having us :)

Staying with Marvin and Ivette was lovely! My husband and I stayed for two weeks with them. We helped them weed their gardens, maintain irrigation systems, prepare grapes to make raisins and we had the opportunity to help them harvest grapes for wine production, among other tasks. Marvin an Ivette are a very generous, honest and fun couple. We enjoyed evenings with them having delicious appetizers as we watched the sunset, Ivette baked a cake for my husband’s birthday (super delicious) and we learned a lot about Chilean culture, history, wine production and we got to play croquette! We also got to eat a lot of pears, figs and plums from their garden. We would absolutely recommend this Workaway experience. They are close to Pomaire, which is a nice little town to spend one evening or two and transportation is easy to get to other places like Valparaiso, Vina Del Mar y Santiago. We had an awesome time and we learned a lot!!

This was the first place I have ever stayed longer than I originally planned and mostly for good reasons! It was a perfect fit for me really took me back to my youth working at a fishing lodge. Gourmet meals, drinks, fantastic accommodations, interesting people, and the drama was juicier than a Florida orange. My main projects were operating the chainsaw, moving a fence, helping with the dishes, and some minor plumbing and electrical projects. The variety kept things interesting, and I appreciated having the freedom to choose what I worked on. Elisa and Benjamin are great hosts! They spoiled me like I was a favorite grandchild. Elisa made sure I never went without dessert (yes, even at breakfast), and Benjamin’s weekly asados were unforgettable. I’ve also never had a host drive four hours into another country just to pick me up, that alone says a lot. The rest of the team was equally great: fun, welcoming, and easy to work with. Now I don’t know what the future holds for this place. I think the profile will need to be updated soon, but if they are still accepting volunteers next season you should definitely apply! Even though I never caught a fish or went rafting, and occasionally felt like I’d wandered onto the set of a soap opera I didn’t audition for, I had the time of my life!

I recently stayed with Sam and Heron for 10 days and had a wonderful experience. The accommodations were separate from the main house (about 1/4 mile walking distance) and were comfortable and plenty large. There is a wood stove for heat, and power is solar with limited appliances. A power bank was helpful which the hosts let me charge at their house. Kitchen sink is outside and bathroom is detached and has running water. Plan for 20 minutes for the water heater to warm the 5 gals of water, for showers, etc. It is very quiet and the night sky is fabulous when not cloudy. It is about 3 miles to the ocean. Meals were delicious and varied; the hosts put care into each dish and accommodated dietary requests. Most importantly, the hosts were warm, respectful, and welcoming, creating a friendly and homey atmosphere that made the stay enjoyable. The work expectations were easy and fair, and I left feeling grateful for the experience. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a pleasant, Workaway stay. Albion is in a beautiful setting and close by car to many scenic areas.

Driton was very pleasant to live with during the 10 days he spent at our home. Easygoing, always in a good mood, active. Things were simple. He both paid attention to what I asked for and had initiatives as well as suggestions on how to do things. He did gardening, put a little fence, turned the compost, planted a few plants, repaired the bicycle, cleaned the windows ... Driton went to Paris several times in spite of the long journey from here. We also had interesting conversations on deep subjects. He didn't seem to suffer from the fact that I was by myself at that moment, so that he didn't meet other people through us, my husband being travelling and our daughter having just left home to her new appartment. He organised his own activities and acted as an independent person while remaining well tempered and sociable..

Jade and Melody were beyond awesome. We have no schedule due to being retired and they managed to help us organize, walk, clean up and still get plenty of sunburn at the beach. We loved Jades get er done attitude and Melody's exacting standards on whatever task they took on. The 10 were cut and groomed, and nail clipped and ears cleaned. The dogs were in a depression when they left, Bubbie is still waiting at the gate for them. Edison our man about the house took the bike and when he returned, they thought it was the girls on the bike as they had used is,, so they had an effect on all of us. Funny and kind people, both of them, a joy to have.

Anne had a short stay with me, on her way to explore New Zealand. Anne is bubbly and friendly, courteous and considerate, and it was a pleasure to host her. She helped with a variety of jobs from gardening, cleaning, sanding skirting boards, and more. I really enjoyed our chats and appreciated her wonderful cooking. I'm glad she got in some surfing and explore our local beaches and walks, and could also in her down time do her trip planning and personal admin, including a job interview - its great to be able to support workaways with this.
