it has been one of the most rewarding Workaway experiences I’ve ever had. Working side by side with Richard has been an absolute pleasure, and the exchange of knowledge has been truly invaluable. I would love to have the opportunity to do it again. Thank you so much, Richard.

Teacher Goh and her students made my time in Malacca truly unforgettable. It’s been a while since I was there, but every time I think about it, it still makes me feel happy and warm. She is always so kind and thoughtful. Even with a busy schedule, she made sure everything was well taken care of. We chatted like friends and explored the beautiful spots in Malacca together. The kids at the school were lovely. I especially remember helping them with their homework—sometimes their little mistakes would make me laugh so much. When I was leaving, they even prepared a farewell for me and danced on that day. They brought me so much joy and also really touched my heart. I’m really looking forward to going back to Teacher Goh’s home and seeing her and the kids again :)

I spent two months with this wonderful family through Workaway, and since it was my first experience, it was truly special. The place is magnificent, surrounded by Norwegian nature, perfect for anyone who loves peace and breathtaking landscapes. I had the chance to do many different activities, which made every day interesting and engaging. The family was super welcoming, kind, and helpful from the very beginning, making me feel at home. The children are lovely and well-mannered, and it was a pleasure spending time with them. I felt really, really good during my stay and I will carry beautiful memories of this experience with me. Thank you so much for everything!

Hi Yogendra’s family, Together with a friend of mine, Anna, whom I actually met for the first time at Rome airport, I spent around ten days at Yogendra and Anita's home. This experience filled my heart with joy, love, and curiosity. Spending part of our trip with the family enriched us, as we became closer to Nepali culture, lifestyle, and habits. We had dinners together and walked through the markets with Anita and Yogendra, surrounded by the first lights of the day. We always felt welcomed. Thank you very much to Yogendra, Anita, Aria, Ayshree, and the little dog Sinjo. Bhaktapur is a lovely city, very old and well preserved, mainly after the huge effort the population put to rebuild the city after the earthquake. It is way more authentic and relaxing to spend time in this city rather than Kathmandu, which is also very beautiful, but crowded. We volunteered in a small public school. You can see that the children attending classes belong to very poor families. When you enter the school for the first time, a mix of contrasting emotions overcomes you. There are different schools in which you can volunteer. This school had no more than two volunteers in the past, as the teachers told us. This was evident after seeing the excitement and curiosity everyone showed toward us. The teachers are lovely. They wanted to talk with us a lot. One of them invited us to celebrate her daughter’s birthday. We spent the entire day with them and slept at her place in Changunarayan. The children hardly speak English. It is difficult to communicate and teach them. Also, although the teachers were lovely, they often left us alone during class time. In that case, it was much harder to teach, considering the language barrier between us. This doesn’t mean we felt uncomfortable, but I had some concerns about the children’s learning process. As I said before, having volunteers at the school was something new for the teachers, and I am sure they will get used to it and learn how to collaborate with volunteers. Thank you again for welcoming us as a part of your family. See you soon! Lorenzo and Anna

I had an amazing 3 weeks here. Everyone was welcoming, considerate, and I had opportunities to work, contribute, and do my own thing. You can learn new skills and participate in building useful and valuable things.I really enjoyed the vegan and bio food because I had never experienced something like it before, and it was really healthy and I could notice the positive effect it had on my personal wellbeing :) The area is beautiful and I was able to explore (I could even borrow one of their bicycles). I found the unheated room to be far too cold to stay in as it was still winter when I arrived - but this was communicated as a possibility on their profile. I subsequently moved to the couch inside their home - and this turned out to be an unique and really fun experience. I do believe they are planning to build better accomodation for workawayers (they've only been their for a few months so it's all understandable), and nevertheless, as I said, I'd really recommend staying on the couch inside, it was a memorable experience! Maybe however the outside room is liveable in the summer... To anyone who wants to go, I would mention that the 4 kids make it an often chaotic and unpredictable environment indoors, so just be aware of that :) But the kids are amazing and sweet (most of the time haha) and it's a rewarding experience for sure.

Sophia was a delight to host. She took on the Kitchen Captain role, which is very important when hosting a group of volunteers! We have a large kitchen from which we prepare 3 meals daily, and she kept it clean and organized. She showed up for the other volunteers and was willingly helped everyone. The other volunteers enjoyed her company too, and I can truly say that tears were shed when she left. We hope she'll return and thank you very much for her 2 weeks with us.

I feel truly lucky to have had you as my volunteer and English teacher. Your dedication to teaching here has far exceeded my expectations. I especially want to thank you for your incredible patience and for being so punctual every single day. Your kindness made me feel comfortable practicing, even when I struggled with my 'logical' thinking process or my habit of using Thai transliteration. I have already put your advice into practice—both learning in full sentences and switching to the desktop version of Duolingo—and it has been incredibly helpful! It was a great honor that my home provided the peace you needed to finish your book. You are more than just a volunteer; you are a brother and an outstanding mentor.

Grishma was a pleasure to host. She's genuinely talented at photo editing and video making, and her work was impressive. On top of that, she's just an easygoing, jolly person to have around . Always pleasant and no trouble at all. Would happily host her again and recommend her to anyone.

I’m really happy that I had the chance to meet Eva and Marco. They approached every task with great care and professionalism, and I truly appreciated how responsible and detail-oriented they were. They are also very warm and genuine people, and it was always a pleasure talking with them. Unfortunately, I couldn’t spend as much time with them as I would have liked due to my work, which I’m a bit sorry about. I hope our paths cross again in the future. Wishing them all the best, happiness, and good luck in everything they do 🙏🏽

I stayed with Stephanie for 6 weeks and had a great taste of Mallorcan life. Thank you Stephanie for offering a lovely first workaway experience. The girls are sweet and energetic, thank you Maya for helping me with the paddock and Isla for teaching me chess!! 🫶 My responsibilities consisted mainly of simple cleaning, cooking, feeding the animals, cleaning out the paddock and of course spending time with the girls. The animals are lovely and I enjoyed caring for them, miss you Rex! 🐕 Mallorca is wonderful and I’ve fallen in love with the island. I had plenty of time to explore and made the most of the city and beaches. The bus network on the island is great and there’s a bus stop close to Stephanie’s house to take you to Palma or in the other direction towards the local town where the closest hikes start. You do have to pay and the cost can add up over a longer stay but it is very accessible. Thank you again Stephanie for taking me into your home and making me part of the family ☺️

We stayed at Sara and Jörgen’s house for two weeks. During our stay, we helped with cleaning the windows and rooms, and took care of the dog. Even though this was our first time through Workaway and our English isn’t good, they welcomed us with such warmth. They also kindly supported us when we had some trouble before meeting them. Sara is a cheerful, fun, and kind person, and Jörgen is an amazing chef and musician. Edvin kindly drove us to many places, and we enjoyed talking with him about our cultures. Thea is really kawaii, and we will never forget the taste of the cookies we made together and time of playing card games with them. We were also very happy to meet Signe, who is the same age as us. Everyone around this family was so kind, and we already miss them, as well as their lovely dog and cats. They took us to various cities in Sweden, and we were able to experience a lifestyle we had always dreamed. They often asked if we wanted to help with any work, and let us stay in their beautiful home. We wonder if we were able to give back enough. We are really looking forward to seeing everyone again someday in Summer. Tack tack!

I had a nice experience at the quinta and I'm grateful for the time I spent there. I stayed for 2 months during the off-season, volunteering in exchange for accommodation and food. My tasks included gardening such as weeding, and planting as well as feeding the animals (chickens, horses, and donkeys), which gave me a great insight into how the farm operates behind the scenes. The work was generally around 5 hours a day, sometimes less when the weather didn't allow it, and occasionally longer days, which felt fair overall. The accommodation was great, volunteers have a separate living space, which was correct and comfortable. The food was vegetarian and often made with fresh, homegrown organic vegetables from the garden. The area is peaceful and surrounded by nature, and the friendly animals especially Pino and Caravaggio bring a lot of joy to everyday life. On weekends we went to Serpa for pizza or visited neighbors, which added a lovely, authentic touch. Ugo has a direct and straightforward communication style, and the house rules are important, which might not suit everyone, but he is also cheerful and positive, and I learned a lot from him during my stay. I was also lucky to meet MaryAnn, who has very kind, calm, and positive personality. Overall, I had many kind and memorable moments, which allowed me to fully enjoy and appreciate my stay. This place has a unique and lively vibe, and is great for open-minded, flexible, and hardworking people who are comfortable adapting to new rules. This was my first Workaway experience, and I can't wait to do more like this in the future.

Marguerite is a proud, self confident, and above all, loveable and warm-hearted Grenadian. Some may find her tone a bit harsh at times, but you'll quickly realize you're dealing with a strong woman who knows to stand her ground in a patriarchal society. She's pragmatic and direct, what goes around comes around. You can get anything from her and demand anything - but keep the principle of reciprocity on mind and actively offer a helping hand. Motivation and a willingness to work are essential. But you certainly won't work yourself to death here. The conditions are more than fair, and you'll have plenty of time for your own interests. You don't have to be an expert when it comes to gardening, harvesting, or botany in general. Learning by doing is the motto here. Initiative and a thirst for knowledge are valued. Anyone coming to Grenada should also be aware of the Caribbean's transatlantic history and bring a certain cultural awareness. Slavery has shaped everyone's lives to this day, just like the ingredients of the national dish. Understanding Patwa is certainly an advantage in everyday life, but not a requirement. Marguerite lives in a rather rural area, far from typical beach tourism and cruise ship madness. Here, you have a unique opportunity to connect with locals. But you also have to reach out to people yourself. Those who show respect will be respected in return. The mentality is open and positive. Western anonymity and ignorance are limited. Grenadians celebrate greetings and human kindness loudly, whether with horns or shouts. After a few days, it becomes normal to wave to complete strangers on the street. Plus you will hear Dancehall and Reggae everywhere, especially tracks from the 90s and 00s are still popular round here (also at night!). Rastafari culture and nature play a big role. You soon will experience Marguerite's affinity and deep love for her African roots and the landscape that surrounds her. She possesses an enormous amount of knowledge when it comes to plants. Her garden is full of fruits, vegetables, and herbs just waiting to be harvested. The property is situated on the edge of the bush. At night, the jungle comes alive, but you quickly get used to falling asleep to these sounds. Don't be surprised if you occasionally have "visitors," be they lizards, frogs, (small) scorpions or spiders. Nothing is dangerous out here; the only real nuisance is the mosquitoes. In this secluded place, you can truly be alone, both at work and at leisure. Marguerite is always up for a chat, but you can also tell that she appreciates her peace and quiet. If you want to explore the island, small buses run a 15-minute walk away on the Eastern Main Road. You can hop on anywhere along the street. They always honk to check if you need a ride. To get off, simply knock on the window. A little tip: you're most likely to find a seat between 9am and 3pm. During rush hour, the buses are usually packed, as they only have an average of 14 seats – and at least three of them are more like fold-out seats on the side. The bass and Formula 1 like atmosphere during the kamikaze ride are for free. The nearest supermarkets aren't around the corner, but people sell snacks all along the road. I recommend Neiva's stand at the first crossroads – her pea soup is a game changer. Jessy's Skinny Mini Mart is a 10-minute bus ride away, right at the entrance to the nearest beach, La Saggesse. If you explore side streets on foot make sure you bring a walking stick – the dogs here will test your patience. In summary, I can say you will feel at home here as soon as you crack open your first coconut for breakfast.

We defenitely recommend to stay here! We stayed for 10 days with Susan and her Family and really enjoyed it. Waiheke Island is a beautiful island and their house is located close to the beach with amazing views. The room is so spacious with a big and comfortable bed, desk, your private bathroom and huge windows with nice views. The Family is very friendly and welcoming and we had a lot of fun talking to them and learning about their culture. All food is inluded in the stay and Susan cooks delicious dinners almost every evening. The work is mostly weeding and can get a bit boring, but DEFENITELY worth it. Many thanks to Susan, Matt and Alex for offering such a nice and relaxing stay. We hope to see you again one day! Nele & Titus

We had a really great experience staying with Jennifer and Steve for about 10 days. From the very beginning, they were incredibly welcoming, friendly, and communicative, always making sure we felt comfortable and had everything we needed. The work mainly involved some light weeding in the garden, which was very manageable and never too demanding. The working hours were very fair, and we always felt well guided, with clear instructions and support whenever needed. The accommodation was amazing – we had our own private studio, which made the stay even more enjoyable. We also absolutely loved the pets, a super sweet and friendly cat and dog that quickly became part of our daily life :) The location was perfect: peaceful, and surrounded by nature, yet still close to Byron Bay, making it easy to explore the area. What we appreciated most was the overall atmosphere – it felt very relaxed, welcoming, and almost like being at home. We’re very grateful for this stay and would highly recommend this Workaway to anyone looking for a friendly, well-organized, and enjoyable experience.
