  • Description

!! Winther shutdown !!: We had a great and intense year, and we decided not to host or invite people between Nov-Jan. Feel free to contact us anytime if you like to come here in the end of January or later.
We're a young community who tries to grow and to rebuild a small farm complex. We usually host 3-8 Workawayers all summer long, because it's just more fun to work and live in groups. After 3 years of living here (and doing workaway), we just renovated the Main building (see pictures) and we go on with renovating a few more buildings.

At the moment, we usually only accept helpers who obviously fit into our team and household. We are very experienced with workawayers by now, and we try to avoid inconvenient situations for our Workawayers and for us, by getting to know the people who come here a bit better in advance. This means, depending on your profile, on your impression to us, and on the availability, we will do a more or less intense interview with you.
Please make sure you answer to following topics/keywords at least:
    - what's your main interest on jobs when staying here? (check in the "help requested" section below)
    - How do you feel with vegan food? (check in the "Type of accommodation" section below)
    - Are you fine with our (basic) accommodation?(check in the "Type of accommodation" section below)
If you didn't answer to these topics/keywords, or if we get the feeling that the whole message is an entirely unpersonal copy-paste-message, we will inform you about that with a copy-paste-message and point you to this "CONTACT US" section again ;-)

We don't really agree with politics on that matter, but we try to stick to the laws as good as we can. Be aware, if you are scared of Corona or a risk group member, we don't recommend you to come here. Also, we don't care whether you are vaccinated or not: That is a personal choice, and we don't support this way of categorizing people.

LONG TERM HELPERS are kind of valuable for us and therefore very welcome. We've had good experiences with long term helpers, and we also made sure that their dedication was appreciated in one way or another.

ULTRA LONG TERM: Looking for families who want to build their own home here (experience needed). Architectural designs are made and will be provided, everything else is to be discussed.

We love to discuss, play board games and to eat good food. There is always time to discuss things about life, work, experience and politics - and sometimes the working hours get lost on too many discussions. Between the jobs we sometimes do bike tours, go swimming or relax somewhere.
Be aware, kids can be loud. And they can be slowing down the whole process. That's just fine, they're kids. Since April there are THREE kids staying here.

6 adults more or less permanently (21-31yo)
    1 child permanently (5yo)
    2 children temporary (4-7yo)

We try to practice ATTACHMENT PARENTING. What sometimes seems like we're spoiling them by "always doing what they want" - but there is a lot of theory in the background, and we read a lot of books about that parenting method. We also discuss a lot about how to handle past situations (with children or with adults) in order to get a better success in parenting and handling our fellow humans in general.

When fighting and discussing, small children can get (very) loud. Be aware that the living room is shared also with kids, and that you have to find another place to have quiet peace if that's necessary. Your rooms/dorms are usually kids-free - unless you bring your own or invite ours to play there with you ;-)

Also, we try (more or less successful) to actively use these theories in the real world, with adults and with our own. So we just try to avoid a lot of misunderstandings and disagreements by just giving a lot of attention in how to tell things and deal with people - and with talking about issues we have, also with each other, before they become a problem. This is a big topic in our community.

You will participate in a small and growing community, you might learn a lot of handcrafts (we give our best to give you proper introductions on a large vary of tools), gardening or cooking, depending on where you would like to contribute. You will get in touch with some locals here, you may also have some free days in the cities around here.

##But the main thing is: I think you got a great time and just easy going relaxing jobs with a young motivated team.##

You get a proper introduction wherever you join, and you will get tasks that suite your skills and your thirst for knowledge. Moritz usually spends most of his time explaining and supervising and that's why the expected working hours are at the "maximum". On the other hand, we try to offer you a good vary of jobs and tasks that fits your interests most. Please also understand that we will introduce you to some jobs, machines and tools only if we feel that this makes sense, based on your skills, on the time you stay here and your motivation. We give our best to keep the jobs interesting for you, but that's not always possible. Anyway, you are very welcome to suggest tasks you would like to do.

We meet for the morning meeting at 8 am on Monday - Saturday, where we discuss what got done the day before and what we're going to do that day and the following days.
We usually don't count working hours, and usually we get along very nicely, also because we talk about the achieved results in the morning meetings. There's no fixed working times, and in our experience everyone does their share and at the end of the day we are all happy about what we could contribute to the community / to the society.

We're still in the middle of a renovation process in the upper floor of the main building. We are going to build a whole house (almost) from the scratch in summer 2022, and therefore we have a lot of preparations to do this year already. People interested in learning how to build houses are welcome to join during the building period. You will learn a lot about building - and we need motivated and interested helpers. Therefore, dedicated helpers might get their fixed costs covered if they stay several months (this is NO Payment).

Cooking delicious food for a bigger group is quite an experience. If you want to assist our semi-professional chef, please tell. There are a lot of skills to share and to learn - always. You'd be preparing lunch for the whole community (including workawayers 10-15 people), but with fun company.

our focus is very much on the building project at the moment. Still, we are also maintaining our garden and growing quite a big part of the vegetables, we use for cooking. If you are interested in joining there and overtaking responsibilities, please tell us!

This host offers a language exchange
Spoken language varies between German and English, we are even very used to switch from one sentence to another. You will be able to practice German as well as (international) English. Please be aware that for safety reasons, we have to choose the best way of communication in the construction (the smallest language barrier) and we can't focus on practising languages with you during the explanations. Some of us speak French, some of us speak Dutch.

  • Accommodation

The meals are (almost) always vegan.
Be aware that we do BUTCHER chicken from time to time - for eating. You may help or watch if you want to.
Vegan / Vegetarian alternative always available.
And: We only buy SEASONAL and ORGANIC food from an exclusively organic shop (that's almost a religion. If you started being that strict, you can't put a foot into a supermarket without disgust).
If you have too extravagant wishes (which are not regional, not seasonal or maybe are even not available in our local organic shop) you might have to buy them yourself.
Anyway, our food is really awesome (in taste and quality) and we're proud of it.

We can offer five different (temporary) rooms in the barn: They're fun and people like it. But don't expect a hotel or a hostel dormitory, they're much more improvised. Some of them are just accessible by climbing a ladder. There is electricity and light in each room, but the Bathroom is in the main building.
The rooms are not isolated nor heated. Therefore, we DO NOT recommend staying here between November and March, depending on the weather. Nevertheless, we had crazy workawayers who happily stayed there from March to December and survived.

Private accommodation (single rooms) is not guaranteed, there are also rooms that fit up to 5 people. Private rooms for families, couples and long term workawayers can be discussed on request.

We DO have enough mattresses and sheets. You'll see ;-)
But there are not enough pillows for now...

We have ONE Bathroom in the main building and an additional outdoor toilet and an outdoor shower.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We hosted an incredible amount of workawayers already and we also wrote a lot of references (as you can read below). Writing a good reference takes time and a lot of workawayers don't really need references. For saving time we decided to write references only when workawayers ask for it or if they leave a reference first. Please feel free to ask!! Also, it's nice to get a reference from time to time. ;-)

There is a (not organic) bakery in our village, but the first shop or market is 3 km away. You can go there by bike easily if you like. There is another Worakway-host in our village, so there are a lot of interesting people around. There is a bus connection to Biberach (and other cities around our village) about every hour during daytime on working days. We got some bikes, and you may go on a tour with these bikes for a day or two - or more. The region is quite flat, but not too flat, and there are also some very interesting cultural things in the Region. Actually it's known as a comfortable holiday biker region.
The closest interesting or touristic places around here (as far as I know):
Federsee region (archeological sights and natural reserve)
Wackelwald (Bad Buchau, a very strange and fascinating swimming forest. This is a great half-day-trip)
Bachritterburg (Kanzach, a rebuilt medieval castle)

It's generally possible to visit us with a campervan. But the place for vans is only accessible via a quite steep path, so we need to make sure that you get away again. If your car is too weak to pull the trailer up the hill again on its own, we could even use the tractor for that - but that's quite an exercise...
