    Description

We have availability for a Workawayer to live with us, ideally one female traveller, who would like to be part of the family and help us with the animals, some light housework, the garden and occasionally with the kids. A horsey girl would be great ;) as we have 2 young donkeys that needs some training. This is not an Au pair position, even though Workaway automatically classifies us as such. In the past there was more time spent with the kids, but now the girls are 5 and 10 and are very independent, playing outside in the garden, hanging out with the animals.

We are a South African - German family living on the beautiful island of Mallorca, Spain. Our 2 daughters (age 10 and 5) were born in Spain and are raised speaking English, German, Spanish and Catalan.
We have traveled the world ourselves for over 15 years and have volunteered on farms, homesteads etc.
Our very unique home is a beautiful, bright Finca with 5000 sqm of land.
We live at the foot of the mountains but equally close to Palma, an amazingly beautiful and lively city, and the sea. We have public transport nearby and also would do excursions together. There is many beautiful hikes in our area and our village lies in a beautiful green valley and has a big alternative community of people interested in yoga, permaculture etc.

Early 2021 we started our garden project and are in the process of planting a food forest. We have planted a lot, from fruit trees (figs, kaki, banana trees, pears, cherries, apples, peaches, avocado, papaya, mango... to kiwi and passionfruit), to a vegetable garden with tomatoes, cucumbers and zucchini, aubergines, herbs as well as berries, melons and pumpkins... We have an existing mature, park like garden full of almond trees, olives, carob, mulberry, bay tree, nisperos, plums... We really are interested in learning about permaculture, have 6 chickens, as well as two young donkeys that give us plenty of natural fertilizer... We are interested in living off the grid fully, we have our own well and basically just need solar power, then we are off the grid.
We also have a super sweet dog and a few tortoises.
We are health conscious, mostly vegetarian, do yoga and love the outdoors.
    Let's live and play together.

We like to have a friend stay with us, rather than a stranger. We like to do stuff together, love having someone that actually wants to get involved and be part of our family finca, not just someone that wants to do the minimum hours and then does their own thing every minute they are off. We love friendly company and are happy to share the experience of this beautiful island with our guest.

    Help

We welcome you into our home in exchange for help with the animals, around the house, in the garden and with the kids. Initiative and good vibes needed. Sometimes you would feed the donkeys and the chickens, clean their paddock and coop, water the garden, sweep the terrace, do some weeding or help planting or harvesting or conserving foods, depending on the time of the year. If you have previous knowledge, you might be able to train the donkey babies on the head collar and with grooming them. Jobs here are super divers. House work is easy, just the day to day stuff that everyone does at home anyway. We usually take turns cooking meals. Sometimes you would hang up or fold laundry, hoover the kitchen... The kids love to play in the garden, do arts and crafts, or jump on the trampoline. Nobody here has to babysit the kids alone, I am always around and don't leave workawayers alone with the kids as I work from home. You might sometimes play with them while I do some work, cook dinner or just take a break from my 24/7 job as a mum ;) but this is not a Au-pair position. You don't drive kids to school, you don't get them ready in the morning, you don't bath the kids, etc. This is Finca Life. As we all live and eat together, we would of course appreciate assistance with those day to day tasks such as cooking and kitchen chores, just like you have to do them at home. We enjoy spending the evenings together, having dinner together, playing games, having a dance party... etc. Playing with the dog is encouraged too, as well as brushing him ;) He will be very happy with you too.

    We prefer nonsmokers.
Preferably people that are either fluent in English or German, as these are 2 of the languages the kids are learning. The kids love to help you learn Spanish. They correct me too!

Bo & Aura our 2 donkeys (8 months)

Bo and Aura are two friendly donkey kids, that have a lot of fun together. They still need training with putting the head collar on, walking them and grooming them. If there is a workawayer out there, that has previously practised this with a young horse or donkey, that would be very welcome.

    Rex (3 years)

Rexi is half German Shepard half Breton Spaniel and loves cuddles from our Workawayer girls. He does NOT like men AT ALL as he is adopted and must have some bad experience with men.
