I'm super grateful for the two months I spent in Ambato, living and working with Karen. From the very first day she really made me feel at home and in no time I was already working in the school with lots of people. The school is not big, but there are many students (both children and adults) that come by and I have been able to meet. Working with them has been very nice and, even though I had no experience, Karen helped me out so that in a couple of weeks I could already work independently with all the students. On the other hand, Karen, together with her family and her friends, allowed me to experience so many things: the carnival parade, the very first long trip with her new car, birthday parties, festivals, as well as delicious breakfasts and empanadas places. I had the chance to discover a lot of things about Ecuador and Ecuadorian people, and I really enjoyed spending time with her friends. Thank you so much Karen, I hope life will allow me to meet you again in Ecuador (or Italy)!

My time with Nandini, Babu, and their children in Deshnoke was so rich. I loved cooking with Nandini and learning her recipes, as well as just talking and sharing life with her. She is a remarkable woman with a love for life and her culture. Both her and Babu were incredibly knowledgeable about the culture, politics, and religions of Rajasthan and India at large. It was a gift to be able to ask question and learn so much from them. I also enjoyed our outings: the international camel festival, the markets in Bikaner, chai shops, the Mukti Dham Mukam Bishnoi temple, the Karni Mata Temple, and the camel safari. This was my first time in India and staying with Babu and Nandini’s family was the perfect place to start. The desert is beautiful and unique, their home is comfortable, and the opportunity to have such a close and personal interaction with every day life in India beyond the tourist hot spots is truly priceless. I’m so grateful to have met these new friends.

This feedback is a bit late because it took me a while to recover from the trauma I've suffered through their cat Cricket.... Now, 3 months and 8 super cute cats later (you hear that Cricket?!), I feel finally ready to submit it.😉 I spent 2 months at Sylwia's & Mariusz's place from begin of November until January. First I volunteered for 2 weeks which also included a house sit of 4 days. The other days I mainly helped with pointing the walls of their house with lime and sand and preparing meals for Mariusz and myself. Sylwia went to Poland after a couple of days which gave me the chance to get to know Mariusz a bit better. Like me, he can be a bit introverted and appreciates his personal space. We understood each other without the need of too many words and I felt very comfortable in his presence. After those 2 weeks I stayed on as a "neighbour" in my van for another 3 weeks. During this time we helped each other out whenever the need arose and I continued to take their dog Rudy, who occupies a special place in my heart, along for my walks. He and my dog León became best buddies over time and we had wonderful adventures together. Even the cat joined on a couple of occasions. When Mariusz joined Sylwia in Poland over Christmas I house sat for a month and enjoyed the tranquility and solitude of an abandoned village. The area is really pretty and green! You can hike in all directions, take ice cold river baths directly in front of their house or take the provided bicycle to explore the island a bit further. The house has everything you need and much more (maybe a tiny bit too much if you consider yourself a minimalist like I do). It's obvious that it has been built with a lot of love, sweat and consideration. The interior as well as the surrounding garden show clearly what a great artist Sylwia is. I wish I'll get a chance to visit one of her exhibitions one day. We didn't spend much time together but I can confirm that her food creations are a delight and another type of art equally. Both of them make sure that you'll only do things that you enjoy and really suit yourself. Instead of imposing something on you they ask about your strengths and preferences and then make best use of them. This is a very unique and wise approach in my opinion, which I highly appreciated. There's a nice private spot to park your camper van as well. If you happen to do a house sit there, simply ask them to take their cat along on their holiday and you'll have an amazing time for sure!

Sandra was a great communicator and passionate about supporting some of the women through my organization. She trained nuns how to make reusable sanitary pads to give to adolescent girls in impoverished communities. Thank you for your skills and patience, Sandra!

I spend a bit more than one month here and I truly enjoyed that time! There were others volunteers with whom I lived and cooked and on weekends we went to the beach together. One of the things I loved most was to be surrounded by so many animals. There are dogs, an incredibly cute cat, lots of chickens and ducks and of course sheeps and goats. Dani and Carol try to let all the animals live as freely as possible. I felt very comfortable in the house where we lived and also on the farm in general. They care a lot about everything being very clean and about the volunteers feeling welcomed. It was very nice to know that Dani was always there for us if we needed anything. On the property there is a beautiful forest in which there will be hiking trails in the future. The people working on the farm are extremely friendly and I loved to connect with them. Concerning the work we often had the task to weed, mulch or organise things. We also shaved the sheep and in the future they want the volunteers to work more with goats and sheeps. There are also many possibilities to spend your free time. Additionally to taking the bus to Sámara there is a waterfall close by, you can explore the property, hike on the mountain next to the finca or spend your afternoons with carding and spinning wool and cotton and making jewellery out of beads. During all the weeks I spend there I was never bored :)

Staying at this place has been a real treat for the soul. I spent two weeks there together with another Workawayer, and they were filled with memories that I now look back on with a big smile. I truly wish everyone had the chance to experience life in the nature surrounding Avola like this. From the moment you arrive, you’re not treated as a Workawayer, but as a member of the family. If you’re willing to put in effort and contribute, you’ll be met with an incredible amount of love and appreciation, it’s honestly something special. Everyone is genuinely welcoming and wants to make your stay meaningful and memorable, both for you and for the people at this place. Each day, we set out on a new “adventure,” with lots of variety: preparing spaces and food for events, hosting aperitivos, painting, reorganizing, picking pears and vegetables from the garden, collecting thyme for organic cocktails, or feeding the animals. There are so many opportunities to learn and try new things if you’re open to it. We were shown how to ferment vegetables and fruits, bake bread using traditional tools, try slacklining, pottery, juggling, or dance to typical Sicilian music. A small sidenote: be prepared to leave with loads of new music and playlists. There was always something playing, and everyone’s taste was consistently spot on. The same goes for the food: everything was organic, sourced from local farms or neighbors, and incredibly tasty. The animals were definitely a highlight. I can now admit that I was very tempted to smuggle Cipollino home in my luggage (though I would have missed all the other wonderful creatures, like Nana!). On our free days, we went on beautiful outings: camping under the stars by the river, visiting nearby farms and restaurants, and heading to the beach or into town. Everyone is incredibly kind and truly invested in making your stay unforgettable. I’m very grateful for this experience and hope to visit again soon!

Giulia is a life-changer, dedicated, extraordinary and multi-talented person with a grounded and generous spirit, wholeheartedly dedicated to supporting disadvantaged children. During her stay with us, she organized and supported two fundraising campaigns, one for promoting health and hygiene through buying sanitary pads for girls in ten rural village schools in Gomba district. More than 400 girls benefited from this campaign. Also buying soccer balls for the schools in the campaign to promote sports for disadvantaged children. She again organized a second fundraising campaign with another volunteer Christopher and this time it was building a classroom. She left when the work is still moving on very well. Your incredible support will always be remembered. You have changed many children’s lives for the better. May God bless you as you travel to many countries of the world.

Thanks a lot for the time at your place Chris! I really enjoyed staying together with my dog in the cute little caravan, it has everything you need. Chris is a very easygoing person and I was free to do the work when it fit me and choose a bit what tasks I wanted to do. I did a lot of weeding, but also some pruning of the fruit trees on the land and planting new trees. I really enjoyed there were almost always some interesting friends to Chris visiting in campers and I felt very welcomed to join hanging out together with movie nights, barbecues or just chilling with coffee or beer together. I also had plenty of space and time to myself in the caravan or outside when wanting to spend time on my own. Mango is also a very chill and fun dog and she got along well with my dog. The surroundings are beautiful with mountains and there are nice walks and hikes around. It's very nice that the cute village Beniarbeig is close by on a walking distance, easy to go for a coffee, meal out or just stroll around in the village. Thanks again for the time at your place Chris, I really enjoyed it!

Margaret was a wonderful host and included me in a number of activities with her and her family. I enjoyed my time and was glad to be able to spend time in both Nairobi and Machako. Margaret was very busy during the time I was there and there was another workawayer there for part of the time that I was there which made things even busier. Plans were often changed at the last moment and I felt that I would have been more useful if I had been there at a time when Margaret was less busy and my time was more structured. None the less, I had wonderful opportunities to be involved in the community and learn so much about local life in Nairobi.

We had the pleasure of hosting Markus for five weeks, and honestly, he was an absolute joy to have in our home. He was always respectful of our space and house rules, and communication with him was super easy. Every evening he would kindly ask about the plan for the next day, which made everything run so smoothly, especially during our busy schedule. He worked really hard, especially helping my parents on their farm, and always with a great attitude and a smile. No matter the task, he was willing, positive, and gave his best. He also kept everything clean and tidy, which we really appreciated. Beyond the work, he brought such a warm, happy, and relaxed vibe into our home. He connected so nicely with my parents, treated them with genuine respect, and they truly loved having him around. We highly recommend Markus to any future hosts. Markus thank you so much with your presiouw help!! we are waiting to visit us and would happily host you and Annette anytime.

Joelle and Jordan were my first hosts in Canada and I feel really lucky that I got to spend 5 weeks in their home! Tasks included feeding their cat (Touton is such a sweetheart!) and chickens, collecting eggs, house-sitting, shovelling snow and some cooking & cleaning. Cooking with Jordan was so fun and they are both incredibly generous and kind and make you feel so welcome and at home. Communicating with them prior to my arrival was always easy with a quick response time. Also, I got to experience my first time seeing the Northern Lights thanks to Joelle taking us out at midnight to the beaches and lighthouse which was a special highlight! I would highly recommend them as hosts to anyone who is making their way to Newfoundland and I can’t wait to make my way back soon as well! :)

I enjoyed my time with Lillian. She took good care of me and cooked meals and allowed me to choose my own schedule and choose the type of work that I wanted to do. I had shared my skills before I came and we agreed on the type of work I would do before I arrived. I really liked the neighbourhood. It had dirt roads and every morning a herd of cows walked down the road past the Umbuntu Community Based Organization. There were also lots of kids playing on the road and very little traffic. I enjoyed how peaceful the area was. I liked that her organization was well run and I felt that my time there was well used and had a positive impact on the organization. I would recommend this as a great place to have a workaway experience.

Thank you very much Mushfiq from South Africa for coming and staying with us. He collaborated very well with other volunteers during his stay with us at our community school and non-profit organization in Gomba district, Uganda! He is a humble young man and very hardworking, so positive and dedicated. The children loved him so much and played with him every time as he gave them positive energy. Thank you so much and you will always be welcomed back here.

Blaise is an absolute all star. We were so lucky to host her for 5 weeks during a snowy Newfoundland winter. She jumped in to help with everything we had on the go, from packing in wood for the stove and shovelling snow to vegetarian cooking, cleaning, and taking excellent care of our pets. She didn’t mind the stormy weather and collected eggs from our backyard coop every day, taking great care of our hens as well. Our house cat absolutely adored her. Blaise is incredibly kind, easy to live with, and brought such positive energy into our home. She was always up for a hike or a late night adventure to catch the northern lights. She also looked after the house and pets while we were away, and we trusted her completely. She’s responsible, caring, and truly someone you can rely on. We’d welcome her back anytime. A real gem.

I stayed for a month and loved it, the staff were amazing and I feltlike a part of the family very quickly. The food is fantastic, and you get a good discount on tours and activities. The work is pretty chill, just washing dishes or serving food. The accomodation isn't great, it's a small room with two single beds and no real furniture, but does the job as somewhere to sleep. Overall I'd really recommend, one of the highlights of my trip and made some great friends.

Ellen is a fantastic Workawayer to have here on the campo. She worked hard, was very motivated, and understood exactly what was needed in the garden. She is social and easy to get along with, while also taking her own time and space when needed. She worked with passion among the plants and cared for them with a lot of attention and love. It was a real pleasure having her here, and I would definitely recommend her to other hosts. She is always welcome back!
