Jayalakshmi is a very inspiring and generous woman. She welcomed us very warmly, and shared so much wisdom with all of us - she was even open to host my two friends as well. She‘s very well organized, and treats you with three delicious meals per day. The work is simple and very fair, and there‘s many different ways in which you can help out at the farm - painting, kitchen-work, watering the plants. The farm is very idyllic, and you‘ll get to enjoy a peaceful life away from the busy cities with a lot of cultural exchange. I can highly recommend her farm to you.

My stay at Jan's place was amazing. I had just arrived in the US when I got contacted by Jan. She offered me to have a stay at her place in Santa Cruz. I gladly accepted and was not disappointed. Jan is a wonderful person : extremely smart, cheerful, knowledgeable. She's a former art teacher and her home is delightfully decorated with her pastel paintings. She toured me around Santa Cruz and Big Sur. We got to see whales, sea lions, giant sequoias, banana slugs ! I got to meet her friends, all great people, all very welcoming and nice. Jan is a great storyteller, and stories does she have ! She's got many stories for the many lives she's lived. I ended up staying a ten-day at her place, which kick-started my stay her country in the best way possible. I came back a few times, to say hello. She's maybe the best person I ended up meeting during my stay in the US, very wise and kind. Thank you so much for you welcome, the food, the experiences, the stories... It really was unforgettable :)

I spent nine days at Annalouise's home. She kindly welcomed me on short notice. Her home and the garden are so beautiful and peaceful. The surrounding nature, mountain view and beautiful beach very close, makes it absolutely amazing location. It’s a wonderful environment to relax, slow down, and reconnect with yourself. During the first two days, I had the opportunity to participate in a singing workshop, which was very meaningful experience. I also helped with the preparations for the workshops. When Annalouise traveled abroad for a few nights, I took care of the house, garden, and swimming pool. She provided a clear list of tasks for that time, and I was free to choose what to focus on, which made the work flexible and enjoyable. While she was home, Annalouise generously prepared all meals and was very attentive to my special dietary needs. She is a warm and big-hearted person who truly sees you as you are. We had meaningful conversations, and spending time with her gave me space for reflection and personal growth. You can always learn something about yourself in her presence. She was genuinely appreciative of everything I did, which made the experience even more rewarding. The house and especially the casita where Workawayers mainly sleep, can be quite cold in winter, so bringing warm clothing is recommended. It couldn’t have been a better first Workaway experience. I feel truly grateful for the time I spent there, and I sincerely thank Annalouise for welcoming me into her home. Sending lots of love.

We had a great experience hosting Lottie for one week. She is very easygoing, tough, and a truly hard worker. She approached every task with dedication and reliability, and it was clear that she genuinely loved spending time with our horses. She was very uncomplicated to work with and quickly adapted to our daily routines. We really appreciated her calm and steady presence and would gladly host her again. Thank you Lottie!

We taught at Pheory's school for a week, and it was a truly wonderful experience. Pheory and his family are amazing people who gave us a warm welcome from day one. Since we had no prior teaching experience, we were quite nervous before our first lesson. However, this quickly subsided as the week progressed, and we found our rhythm very easily. If possible, and if enough Workawayers are available at the time, several people can teach together. The logbook and teaching book are also very helpful for keeping track of the curriculum. You can also start with the younger children, so the material is very basic and easy to teach. So don't be shy! The children are really sweet and used to working with different Workawayers. The food that the family prepares is absolutely delicious and varied. The work involved about two hours of preparation and four hours of teaching each afternoon/evening. In the mornings, we sometimes helped with projects in the village, or we went for a run with our fabulous group of Workawayers and had a coffee afterwards. It was truly a very inspiring week, where you really immerse yourself in village life. We can highly recommend this experience to everyone.

I had an experience in Swedish Lapland at Harleen and Magnus' house for almost two months, during the winter, and it was unforgettable!1 I immediately felt at home with Harleen and Magus; I felt welcomed and respected. They are very kind, understanding, respectful, cheerful, and dynamic people. During my stay, I mainly took care of the house: cleaning the dishes, general housekeeping, and tidying up, which I really enjoy doing. I was also responsible for cooking all the dinners. Selma and Astrid are two very active, playful, and energetic little girls, very curious and eager to learn from you. It was a wonderful cultural exchange, as every weekend we were away from home doing new activities and experiences that allowed me to truly understand Swedish culture. The landscape outside their house is priceless and magical; it's common to see reindeer on the road and the Northern Lights in the evening... things I was looking for in my experience. For me was a period of rest, relax and re-connection with myself, surrounded by a wonderful family, the two cats and the wonderful lapland. I highly recommend having an experience at Magnus and Harleen's house! I really want in the future to come to visit them another time!

Smida is very discreet and a good worker, he takes initiatives where needed and my overall experience is good. He has strong ideas about most anything and likes to share them at lunch. He is respectful and quite efficient if guided and instructed. He bonded strongly with the cats who loved to sleep with him. Thank god he wasn't judging about the mess of my life but helped along. Thank you my friend and come back if your fascinating journey takes you back in the Veneto region and you need a roof over your head and some good food to warm you up. Ciao for now BB

We feel incredibly lucky that Nova came to stay with us through Workaway. From the very first day, she showed maturity, responsibility, and a genuine love for animals that immediately put us at ease. Her work with our horses was outstanding. She handled daily tasks—feeding, mucking out, grooming, and general stable care—with confidence and attention to detail. She was calm, patient, and intuitive around the horses, and they clearly responded well to her presence. We always felt we could trust her completely with their care. Beyond her practical help, Nova brought a wonderful energy into our home. She was consistently kind, thoughtful, and considerate. What meant the most to us was the beautiful bond she formed with us, and the time she spent with our son and his friend. She was patient, playful, and attentive, taking the time to include them in activities and making them feel valued and safe. They absolutely adored her, and we saw how naturally caring and responsible she is with children. Nova is one of those rare young people who combines hard work with warmth and emotional intelligence. We would welcome her back anytime and recommend her wholeheartedly to any future host. She is truly exceptional.

We spent with Tereza and Zaya 2 months and we had wonderful time having them around. Tereza is realy reliable, creative and hardworking woman but at the same time she is ready to jump into an adventure and have fun too. Her daughter Zaya is very creative and easygoing and other kids love her. She is a great team player and has a sense of justice. They were a big help but not just what was needed but also they bring their hearts everytime they see what added value could make things better so they were a lot of extra value to us to have them around. Thank you!

Yoahn is so easy going guy that he can make a lot of friends out of his duty to help us in the class. In training the kids to speak English, he treated them patiently. They felt to have additional experience in interacting with the foreigners. To some adults Yoahn has also made the training alive. i also asked Yoahn to come to the class of French in Moslem High School at Temanggung and the children love the activities both in and out of the class. Both the students and Yoahn enjoyed the meeting. At home Yoahn did some activities related with maybe his work and he liked the daily meals though nearly most of our food is spicy. Basically the presence of Yoahn in my camp could make different situation in my camp and everybody were happy. He also communicated with aour whole family members friendly even to our grand daughters of 4, 6 and 10 years old. Let me express my gratitude to Yoahn. Hopefully, someday you can be back again in different moments. Happy travelling Yoahn and have a great day. The host, Indrotomo

It was my first experience and I enjoyed it a lot. Ketty is very organized, observant, clear in her communication and it was smooth and pleasant to help her out. She is also flexible regarding any requests or changes of schedule, and also needs some flexibility on the workawayer's part because the work changes as its needed. Some days there are more tasks and time with the daugther Linda, other days there is more free time. Linda is a sweet girl, smart and talkitive, with a lot of energy. We tried out several games and she got engaged with a couple board games for children I had. Raquel however didn’t have much time to play with us so the games were mainly for Linda. I deeply appreciate the fact that Ketty contacted me and this experience was possible. I want to come back to Italy some day for another great experience with workaway

Incredible experience. A unique family. From the first moment I felt a good vibe. Etienne received me at the train station and took me in his car to the house. It is a very organized place. And everything is clear from the beginning. That makes the coexistence and organization of the project and tasks better. The house has very good heating, which is very good in winter. The food is spectacular, everyone cooked for a day and the experience was like visiting a 5-star restaurant every day. Each one's projects are super interesting. Each one has to contribute a lot to the world. I wish you success in everything. Thank you for opening the doors of your family. One more friend here Rhonal 100% recommended to this community.

Miky and Hermis were a delight. A pity you couldn't stay longer. They are very respectful and positive, helping in everything and bringing light and love to the atmosphere here, independent and yet joyful especially with the calm influence of Hermis with his guitar. I can recommend them to anyone.

What to say about this experience! I went to Rusinga Island in September last year and was the best thing I did in 2025! Staying with Mama Jane, She will make you feel at home within five minutes. We laughed together, shared stories in the evening, and her food was amazing, I miss it and miss Mama Jane so much😄 The school experience was just special. The children are full of energy and kindness. You spend the whole day surrounded by their positivity, and somehow they give you more than you could ever give them, I miss the kids so much. After school, we wouldd stay and play cards with them or just chill with Chris and Mama Jane. The teachers were incredibly welcoming too and open, and always up for conversations. We even danced with the kids at school and those moments were joyful. There was at my same time another volunteer and there’s definitely room for more. Victor was always there for us, making sure everything ran smoothly and he even organized weekend trips so we could explore more, the beautiful Kenya. One thing to know: there’s no electricity at the house, so bring a power bank. But you can always charge your phone or laptop at a nearby cafe if needed and don't worry we still had an amazing time even without electricity If you’re looking for something meaningful and unforgettable, go to Rusinga Island. You won’t regret it.

I stayed at Mika and Moku’s home for two months, from December 3rd to February 3rd. Such a fulfilling time! A typical day looked like this: I would wake up before 7 a.m. and do cleaning with Mika, which usually took about 1–1.5 hours. Saturdays were for the weekly deep clean, so we spent more time on that. When there were other Workawayers, we took turns walking the dogs. On sunny days, I liked to ride the bicycle; when the weather wasn’t so good, I walked instead. The dog walk usually lasted about 2 hours. I loved watching the three girls—Hanabi, Hotaru, and Matsuri—play on the grass. The view of the Yodogawa River was so peaceful and beautiful. After returning home, we would bathe the dogs and dry their fur. Even though I have asthma and am very sensitive to pet hair, the dogs were so clean that I never once felt uncomfortable. It was amazing. Btw, Hanabi often sleeps with me. My lovely Hanabi. 😊 In the evenings, we prepared dinner together. Mika cooked a lot of dishes—always abundant and incredibly delicious!!! Her cooking could be called “borderless cuisine.” She has traveled to many places, and at her home I got to eat Chinese Suancai fish, Vietnamese spring rolls, and Mexican tacos. There were even Chinese zongzi — oh my god, I felt especially happy when I got to eat that. I was full every day. 🤤 Moku is also a great cook. When he had time, he made breakfast and often brought us snacks. One time I didn’t have time to eat breakfast, and Moku was like a dad: “Yangyang, eat this before you go! Eat first!” My birthday is on Christmas Eve. Mika made me a strawberry cake, and the strawberries were bought by Charlie, who was working with me at the time. Honestly, the other Workawayers I met were all such kind people. We created so many happy memories together. 🥰 The location is very convenient. You can easily travel to Kyoto, Kobe, and other areas in Kansai. When they had time, they also took me out. We went to Himeji, Nishinomiya, and Nara together, and also to karaoke and hot springs. I met Mika’s friends and family too. They’re all very nice people. Naho-chan I missed you! If you’re thinking of applying for this position, I’d like to say this: please be RESPONSIBLE in your work, RESPECT others, and learn to be GRATEFUL. If you have many dietary restrictions, it might be a pity, because Mika’s well-balanced and diverse cooking may not suit you. When you give sincerity, you receive sincerity. The only way to make expectations come true is through ACTION. Because of that, I experienced many unexpected surprises and had a truly satisfying and meaningful time.

It was an absolute pleasure hosting her as a yoga volunteer. From the very beginning, she brought such a calm, positive, and grounded energy into our space. She connected naturally with guests and created a welcoming atmosphere in every class she taught. Her yoga sessions were thoughtful, well-structured, and adaptable to different levels, which our guests truly appreciated. Many of them shared how much they enjoyed her teaching style and the peaceful presence she carried. She was responsible, punctual, and always respectful of the space and schedule. Beyond teaching, she blended beautifully into our community. Open-minded, kind, and easy to communicate with, she was not just a volunteer but genuinely felt like part of the family. She managed her time independently, balanced her personal learning with her responsibilities, and always maintained a positive attitude. We would gladly welcome her back anytime and highly recommend her to any future host. She is a wonderful soul to have in any community. Five stars from our side as well 🌿

My friend and I only spent a short time here, but it was truly an unforgettable experience. From the incredible homemade food to the warm company and the freedom to simply be ourselves, every moment felt special. The space is beautiful and inviting, making it so easy to relax and express yourself openly. It was such a gift to reconnect with nature in a place where we felt completely comfortable and at home. Thank you again for being such an amazing and thoughtful host, we’re so grateful for the experience and hope to one day return!
