I applied for a two month stay, but after a few weeks already it became clear to me that I would extend my stay, eventually I stayed for 5 gratifying months. From the moment I got in touch until the moment I left and after, I always felt warmly received and treated with immense kindness. This made me feel at home quickly and turned Quinta into a place where I’d be happy to return to in the future. Ivone and Joep created an amazing project that does so many wonderful things to help contribute to a more beautiful and just world. There's the animal sanctuary part where animals in need are offered a safe haven to live free from oppression, there's the permaculture part where self-sustainability and ecological food are centered, there's the seed preservation and exchange part to combat the food system monopoly, there's the education part to spread awareness on animal welfare and ecology, … many things one can contribute to to help make this world a better place. During my stay at Quinta I used my years of animal sanctuary experience to help with animal care, cleaning, mapping out workflows, scheduling, writing out care manuals, and some smaller fixes. I also restored an old building by building up the walls, installing a new roof, plastering the walls, installing a new floor, restoring wooden beams, and installing a new fence around the place for it to become the new chicken coop. I’m very grateful I was able to contribute to this project, for all I've learned and experienced, for the great volunteers I’ve met and been able to share this experience with and especially to all the Quinta team for all they do to make this project a success. If you're a motivated volunteer that wants to contribute to a meaningful project with a flexible work/life balance don’t hesitate and get in touch. You will be received by the amazing Madalena who does a wonderful job on organizing the volunteers, managing the sanctuary part, bringing education and a trillion more things :)

During her stay, Asia quickly built a warm and trusting relationship with the children and demonstrated a natural ability to facilitate child-led learning in a thoughtful and engaging way. Rather than simply directing activities, Asia followed the children’s interests and helped them turn their ideas into meaningful experiences. She also showed excellent initiative outside of childcare. Notably, she independently started our kitchen garden project, choosing a practical, hands-on project that contributed to our project and environment. Her willingness to take initiative and find meaningful ways to help was something we greatly appreciated. Beyond her work, Asia was a lovely presence in our home. She is kind, dependable, and easy to have around. She approached her responsibilities with care and enthusiasm, and the children genuinely looked forward to spending time with her each day. Thanks Asia!

I have no proper words to describe this experience, the hostel felt like a home to me, from the guest that I helped to the shared meals and Catan nights with the others volunteers, being my first experience at a hostel as volunteer, it couldn't have been better than this, Nico has been an amazing host, and more than that, a friend. The work is really nice, everything is really organized and Nico communicated everything that has to be done, but at the same time I had a lot of time for myself, and I managed to get to know a lot about Puerto Natales and Torres del Paine with Nico's help and knowledge of the place . I recommend this experience to everyone who wants to join this amazing hostel project!! Gracias Nico!

Helena is fantastic. Always in a good mood and really open minded and interested in learning a lot about gardening, energy work, and spirituell aspects we do with our therapeutic gardens, she is very responsable and a hard worker, with perfection. She builded a lot of bamboo fences and terraces in our gardens, did a lot of weeding , created kokedamas, mobiles for our house, fighted against our "chusque-invasion", cooked, studied and created wherever she was, a friendly family and friendship atmosphere. It was really strange to let her go. She is part of our family. For all host who wants a initiative and gentil help at home or outside, she is the one. I highly recommend her. Hope she will come back very soon to us again.

My stay at Arlindo and Natália's place was wonderful and truly precious. I enjoyed our conversations, every dish Natália made (Está tudo delicioso!), spending time with their lovely dog and cat, and working in their beautiful house and garden. I especially appreciate their thoughtfulness and understanding. Arlindo gave me a great opportunity to create my artwork as an artist, and Natália was incredibly kind in helping me with my regular hospital visits. I can't thank them enough. I would love to go back again and share a meal with them overlooking the garden. I wish them the best of health and happiness.

I had the best six weeks here with Sofia, Riley and the rest of the volunteers at this place. This was my fourth Workaway, and is undoubtedly my favorite by far. Every aspect of it was amazing. Sofia and Riley were incredible hosts. Communicative, welcoming, and fun to work with. The work was enjoyable, you're essentially a food server during meals..help to prepare basic drinks (wine, beer, etc.), and then you work reception by checking in hotel guests. It could be busy at times, especially during breakfast & lunch. The food was phenomenalllll. Three meals a day + a smoothie-- everything was so nourishing and yummy! Working alongside the kitchen and cleaning staff was one the biggest highlights. They were so fun to work with, and felt great to have such a supportive team when I had questions or needed assistance. I had plenty of time off to explore the neighboring towns, hike volcanos, and enjoy the activities/social scenes that the neighboring hostels. There was always a new adventure waiting !!! <3 I also really appreciated Sofia and Riley's emphasis on requiring Spanish at this Workaway. Between communicating with the kitchen/cleaning staff and Spanish speaking clients, I felt I was able to improve my Spanish a lot and appreciate the space on a deeper level. It is hard to describe just how beautiful Lake Atitlan + this hotel is. The birds, the lake, the trees, the cabins that were all built by hand !!! It was pure magic. I feel so grateful!!! Thank you again Sofia and Riley, wishing you two all the best. <3

Wow! Alex and Ashton are such beautiful humans and we felt very lucky having them stay with us. As Ales says, he's an optimist and Ashton is just right there being another positive and happy minded person. They were both happy to do whatever needed to be done. Simple and a bit boring work like weeding the garden, cutting uncountable little wattle trees, harvesting mint to picking grapes and preparing them for freezing, cleaning the house, smooching with the cat, helping in the kitchen, and splitting and stacking a big amount of firewood. They are quick learners and very thorough in what they do. We very much enjoyed our time with them and wish them very well on their travels in NZ. They said they might be back and we certainly hope so! Gerard & Patricia

Harry has been a fantastic volunteer at our school. He is consistently punctual and dependable, always arriving on time and ready to contribute. What really sets him apart is his genuine willingness to help students—he is patient, approachable, and takes the time to ensure they feel supported and understood. Beyond his reliability, Harry brings a positive attitude to everything he does. He is respectful, easy to work with, and creates a welcoming environment for both students and staff. We all had a great time working with him, and his presence made a positive difference in our school community. Overall, he is a kind and dedicated individual who leaves a lasting impression.

Patricia and Gerard were incredibly welcoming and made us feel right at home. They are truly lovely people! the property was breathtaking and the food superb. we stayed a little longer than a week and by the end it was difficult to leave. There are always a pleathora of tasks to work on which means we had a lot of variety in labor and things to learn. We will be thinking about our stay for years to come. We couldn't recommend them more!

I was an AuPair for June and July of 2025. It was an amazing culturally immersive experience. Valentina, Carmine, and Luna are such a beautiful, friendly, outgoing family. They have amazing town connections; Polignano a Mare felt like a fairy tale. I did find it a little challenging to connect with Luna as she is very mature and independent, but my overall experience was super positive. The family was very generous, welcoming, and easygoing.

This was truly one of the most amazing months of travel I've experienced. Cheryl, the head volunteer keeps this place running so smoothly, and her love for the dogs is infectious. The property is absolutely beautiful, and the animals here are treated with so much care and compassion. The dogs are well mannered and will soak up all of the love and affection you have to offer. The work is physically taxing but simple, I was able to be trained in one to two days. There's lots to accomplish every day so you should come prepared to work hard. You will leave incredibly sweaty but it's so rewarding and an incredibly fair trade off for the housing and food you receive. The guest house is in an amazing location in Puerto, just a short walk from the beach and right next to a major market, making it easy to be independent. This is a great opportunity for anyone who loves animals and is looking to make an impact on a very important organization. I couldn't recommend this place more!

I first stayed here back in November 2024 for 10 days...which turned into 2 weeks...which turned into me returning for another 2 weeks. Needless to say it was one of the best experiences of my life. The kindness of Noah and Patty and their commitment to animal liberation is second to no other. I miss the personalities of every single animal and waking up every day knowing I was helping them as best I can. The work is reasonable and fun and the hosts are very accommodating to individual strengths and needs. Please stay here if you can! I've made lifelong friends with some of the other volunteers, the sanctuary feels a little bit like a home away (far, far away) from home. Thank you Noah and Patty for all the incredible work you do, I will definitely be back one day :) <3

I left this place a week ago and I already miss everyone so much. This place is a perfect example of how kindness, empathy, and care can make a difference, especially when it comes to rescued animals. Ann is a wonderful person who cares deeply about animals and people. She always made sure I was comfortable, made sure work wasn't a problem, and always bought me food I liked :) We ate breakfast and dinner together, which was very nice, and Ann is a great cook. The house is meat-free and alcohol-free, which is a huge plus. There's a forest nearby where you can walk the adorable dogs. All the animals here are amazing and very friendly. It's easy to form a wonderful bond with them, which makes you never want to leave :) I hope to return soon.

Daniel, it was a pleasure spending time with you. I'll miss you a lot. You're one of those people you can talk to about anything. About life, energies, great stories, thank you so much for sharing and helping me during your volunteer stay. A big hug! c:

I had a brilliant first Workaway experience with Ivor! He is an incredibly hospitable and thoughtful host who went out of his way to make me feel welcome. As someone with a meat-oriented diet, I really appreciated how accommodating he was with the meals—we shared some great food and even better conversations over a beer by the fire in his cozy home. Ivor took the time to show me the best of the area, from hidden hilltop vantage points and local beaches to the charming nearby towns. The house itself is in a stunning location right next to a beautiful lake, and Ploče is a great base with plenty to explore. Regarding the work, we focused on painting windows, laying laminate flooring, and various household repairs. Ivor was always easygoing with the schedule and very open to my suggestions and ideas, which made the projects feel collaborative and stress-free. If you’re looking for a calm atmosphere, a kind host, and a beautiful corner of the world to work in, I couldn't recommend staying with Ivor enough!
