We had the most amazing 10 day experience with Bart and Lieve! They are an amazing couple that made us feel right at home. Their house is beautiful with such interesting history and we had an amazing private room and bathroom that was all newly renovated. The work was very fair with jobs such as cleaning the attic, yard clean up, gardening, and cleaning the windows. Every morning Lieve made us a delicious fresh breakfast of fruit, yogurt and oats which was the perfect way to start our day. All of their cooking was to die for and it is safe to say we were well fed! They also let us borrow their bikes which made exploring Ghent very easy. We also got to know their two children Relinde and Reginald who were also just as welcoming! We even got a city tour of Ghent with Relinde and got to know Reginalds children which was a lot of fun. We really just felt like part of the family and for that we are super appreciative. Thank you guys for everything we hope to be back one day to see you all! Lots of love Bree and Aiden. felt so lucky to stay here and also get to know there two kids Relinde

I spent a month here in February, which was a good and an interesting experience altogether. For the next possible workawayers I feel a responsibility to write down my experience unfiltered because it seems like none of the previous workawayers wrote down what I had here.

Needless to say the nature here is amazing, had no idea Marche was such a beautiful place. During my stay, they provided me my own room and three meals a day in a large building where everyone live together. If you love animals, especially dogs, this is the place. They have six beautiful cane corso breed dogs. Be careful, once they know you, they will viciously attack you for PETS, but also keep in mind that they are guard dogs and they really don’t like black clothing. In a month I helped people in various tasks. I did run errands and collect donated foods with Nadja and really enjoyed her companionship, made a few English classes with the children and it was refreshing to see their interest in topic, one can say they really are brilliant kids, I helped around in the kitchen and cooked meals with Ayça and Dino, attended in taichi classes from world masters, made pizza for the first time in my life with il Maestro and worked in the garden, helped around in carrying goods and packages around the farm, worked together with Alessia on feeding cows and horses. Also need to add, everyone helped me a lot with improving my Italian. So why the two stars then? Well, a few aspects of my stay here was very interesting least to say. First of all, before coming here Ashanti and Rafaello have a long meeting with you and tell you anything you can potentially face here beforehand but nothing feels like living there. I thought they would be more friendly or “pace e bene” as they say but it was a different story. They have a lot of rules, I mean a lot. Most of them in my opinion are just there to make the life harder for everyone but I was a guest so, I tried to live in their manners as much as I can. If you slip and do something out of their set of rules, some of them sees it appropriate to give you an hour of lecture/scolding on how the world works based on rules and if you don’t obey it you should leave. To be specific, there is work here 7 days of week, 8 hours a day. One day I was 5 minutes late to my duty of washing dishes 8 in the morning and I took a warm shower after 3 days of not being able to take it. Which turned out to be a massive problem. You need to warm water over a wood stove or ask permission to have warm shower then someone to turns on the heating or not (switch is in your room btw). I was confronted in my room as if I committed a crime, even though I offered to compensate for my energy use and get back to work, instead they asked if I don’t live like them I need to pay 40eur for half a day of working/staying and 70 eur for no working or simply leave asap. Another problem is that you need to ask someone to give you food. I mean, food is there on the table, almost all of them are donated, you know because you carried them in the morning from eurospin, but someone comes to give you whatever you would like to have. I took a cookie out of a bag without thinking and it became an another massive problem. The same day I literally cooked for them, somehow the hygiene is not a problem when I cook Turkish dumplings or prepare salads but it becomes a problem when I touch a single cookie. Rules are rules and If you slip, they ask you to leave immediately, in the middle of the night. I think there were a few other things too but I think you get the feeling of it.

I also write this review as a friendly suggestion to them, I think they are trying to make something good for everyone there but they don’t see workaway as a volunteering and cultural exchange opportunity. It appears like “work” in workaway is misleading for some of them. This is a platform mainly for cultural exchange, it is not for cheap labor and most of all, it is not for imposing illogical strict rules on people. It is fair to ask people to live like you but no need to turn a farm stay into a military compound. So, i give two for all the good people and things I had there but some of the things I faced here were kind of dehumanizing and uncalled for.

After all thanks for the experience. Pace e bene, Ekim. :))

I had an amazing time at Sarah and Davids farm! I would always come back and do it all over again. Their dog Louie is the best. He really loves belly scratches :) They are so lovely people and just really nice to live with. I learned so many new things. Each morning we were milking the goats and every few days we made some cheese out of the milk. The cheese tastes really really good! We also harvested the honey from the bees. That was so interesting The place to stay was perfect. You have your own little studio. Each evening you can see the kangaroos on the property next to them. Sarah and David were really the best hosts you can think of. They helped you out with everything they could and made you feel really welcome. Thanks for having me!

Isabella and Niko are very welcoming and kind people, we felt at home in their house and the accomodation was excellent, we really liked the work and we learned a lot of new things about their adorable sheep, gardening and more, it was hard at times but always very fulfilling. We had good conversations and Isabella cooked some really good food and we shared some recipes too, they are both easygoing and Niko can talk to you about anything and has always some interesting insights to share. We had enough time to explore the area and to relax in their property. We already miss them and all the animals, from Callisto to those free spirits the ducks!

We had a really good time at Jens place. Their animals were amazing! Really sweet dogs, horses and chickens. We loved the view from the house over the property. Especially at sunset it looks really amazing! We met so many people. At some point we were 10 workawayers that were people from germany, japan, america and switzerland. It was a really good cultural exchange. Each evening we got really yummy food. We also could do our 5 hours of work per day whenever we wanted. It just had to be finished. On the days off we catched the train to the city. It is a really easy to get there. If you guys are in Germany we would be happy if you come and visit us Thank you for having us :)

I've just concluded a 4-week stay with the team...and I've found my family in Thessaloniki. Incredible people all, a true community of volunteers and beneficiaries alike, a model to other small NGOs everywhere. The various teams focus on their programs, whether gardening, cooking, market donation-gathering, food distribution, or special workshops, with plenty of interweaving for true relationship. Such dedication and genuine desire to contribute to the greater good -- am already anticipating my return! Thank you, now and forever, Filippos and all the family!

We loved getting to know Coco and to watch her blossom as an artist. She was a joy to have with us and quickly became friends with my staff. We were sad to see her go. She was invaluable during a busy time for us. Good luck Coco! may your future be bright and thank you for blessing us with your presense.

We had the pleasure of having Yvonne and Dennis to help us with different projects. They are a very likeable couple, always on time, hard working and enthusiastic. They did a bit of gardening, weeding, pruning, painting, etc. They stayed here for 2 weeks and we had the chance to share some nice conversation over a couple of meals together. We found them interesting and keen to do a good job in all areas and finish the tasks. We would happily welcome them back anytime!

I had a wonderful time with Laima, Krisjanis and especially the horses. The accommodation was very nice and cozy, and I had the chance to have some quiet time to myself, which was really good for me personally during that time. The work was very manageable, and I really enjoyed being outside all the time and getting some physical activity. Laima gave me very valuable insights into her work with the horses; I still reflect on those aspects today. The area is very rural, but you can easily reach the surrounding towns by bus, for example, and Laima and Krisjanis are very helpful if you ever need a shuttle. Thank you so much for the wonderful time! I would definitely come back!! :)

We had a really fun stay with Stu, Rayna, Paša the dog, Gingöz and Pamuk, the cats. They created a little paradise here. Our accommodation was a spacious room with bathroom in a stone house right next to the main house. We learned a lot about permaculture, Turkish village life and shared nice meals and stories together. Rayna and Stu did everything to make us feel comfortable. During our stay we visited the beautiful ancient site of Tholos and went up the famous Babadag with a cable car. We tried homemade organic wine and made a camp fire on our last day. Thank you very much for sharing your piece of paradise with us! Hope to see you again one day. Afiyet olsun!

Sadie is great! She stayed with us for a week and was an absolute pleasure. She was super open and motivated with all the projects I proposed her to do and she finished our main two planting beds with care and diligence. She also sowed many seeds that needed to go on the greenhouse and painted a beautiful little mural for us :) She cooked very nice and healthy meals for all of us, she was clean and tidy and really felt like a housemate that was part of the little community. Although we are not super organized, she adapted really well and patiently to the rythms of the house. She also cared for our dogs and the house one day we were away for a few hours. It was a blessing having her with us. Thank you Sadie and best of luck with your travels!
