Description
It is located in Lonquimay, in the Araucanía Region, in the northern Patagonia of Chile, bordering Argentina. The Reserve is a project dedicated to the conservation and enhancement of the area's geological, natural, and cultural heritage. It has visitor facilities, numerous trails and geo-routes, highlighting several important geosites within the Kutralkura Geopark (UNESCO). Furthermore, three natural conservation areas converge at the reserve, making us very privileged, but also a lot of work to do :).
The reserve's activities are adapted to the seasons, as we are in a Patagonian and high Andean mountain region where the seasons dictate the conditions. Thus, in summer we offer trekking, explorations, horseback riding, and other activities. In autumn, we add photographic safaris, scientific visits, and more. In winter, everything is covered in snow. The reserve has a large refuge that can accommodate up to 21 people, as well as some domes and campsites.
We are working hard this year, 2026, and the following year, 2027, to reintroduce some wonderful species that have disappeared from Patagonia (such as the guanaco and the rhea) and to monitor other animals here (pumas, vizcachas). We have a great deal of work ahead of us to prepare for the return of these animals and the restoration of the local ecosystem (building fences and shelters for our park rangers). Also this year, 2026 and 2027, we are working on the restoration of the area's heritage tree, the Araucaria. To date, we have already planted more than 20,000 trees, and now we are building a plant nursery and interpretive trails in the forest. Our central project is a biological corridor connecting Chile and Argentina for the free movement of these animals, but also to improve the quality of life of local communities and help preserve Patagonian culture.
We have a large garden where we grow our own food every day. We always have internet access, plenty of books, and lots of places to explore. We have a fully equipped and beautiful retreat by the river. The owners of the house are Carlos and my daughter Nagore. I'm an anthropologist, raised in the mountains, a professional traveler, knowledgeable about American cultures, a reader, and a nature lover. My daughter is an archaeology student and also the creative force behind this place :)

The place is very beautiful for hiking. And Carlos takes time to answer at all your question even when he is really busy!
I recommand this places for all people's who love nature and are not afraid of physical work!
During my time here I worked with Marcello, a gaocho neighbor of Carlos, on manual tasks necessary for the continuation of the project and also maintaining the trails, and the household of the place. The work is physical, which I found delighting but not for everyone.
