    Description

We are Agata and Pol, a couple aged 32 and 34, living and building a life project in a traditional countryside house (masia) in Sora, a small village in the Osona region, Catalonia. We share our daily life with our two dogs, Selva and Caliu, who are very much part of the family 🐾.

Agata loves slow mornings, walking the dogs, spending time in nature and going on small outdoor adventures. She enjoys meeting friends, creating things with her hands and feeling cozy by the fire. Pol enjoys spending time in the garden, going to the mountains, creating beautiful things with wood and playing the ukulele. We both practice yoga and value a simple, creative and nature-connected way of life, and we enjoy sharing this rhythm with the people who come to stay with us. We also enjoy relaxing by watching a series or a movie some evenings after dinner, especially on rainy days.

Over the years, we have been volunteers in many different projects and countries, which has deeply shaped the way we understand community living, cooperation and sustainable lifestyles. We also have experience in permaculture projects, both learning from others and putting these principles into practice.

Our project is about living more consciously and in harmony with nature. We are starting our own permaculture project, applying what we've learned in the past and learning by doing in the present, with the vegetable garden as the main focus: preparing the soil, planting, caring for the plants, and gradually creating a resilient system. Our goal is greater self-sufficiency — producing many of the things we need ourselves, reducing waste, and living more coherently. We are at the beginning of this new chapter, learning and growing step by step.

Alongside this, we are also artisans, creating clothing dyed and printed with flowers and leaves, using natural dyes and handmade techniques. Pol is also a tattoo and visual artist and a mountain refuge warden in the winter.

The masia is surrounded by nature, forests and open fields, in a very peaceful and beautiful environment, where the only thing you hear outside is the distant sound of cowbells. Sora is a small village, located between the Lluçanès and Osona areas. Nearby you’ll find walking trails, streams, viewpoints, charming rural villages and plenty of opportunities to enjoy the quiet countryside life. It’s an ideal place for people looking to slow down, reconnect with nature and experience rural living.

We are looking for volunteers who are open-minded, motivated and curious, with an interest in permaculture, rural life and arts, and who value a respectful, calm and friendly atmosphere. For us, it’s not just about exchanging help, but about sharing time, meals, conversations and learning together.

If this resonates with you, we would be very happy to hear from you 🌱

  • Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We offer a genuine cultural exchange based on sharing daily life together. Workawayers will be part of our everyday rhythm, sharing meals, conversations and time with us, and when possible connecting with the local community in the area. We are happy to share our knowledge and experience in permaculture, gardening, natural dyes, handmade processes, artistic skills and sustainable living, as well as what we have learned through volunteering in different countries. At the same time, we truly value learning from the people who come here: their cultures, perspectives, artistic and any kind of skills, ways of seeing the world... as we believe hosting people from different backgrounds deeply enriches both the project and our personal lives.

On a social level, we enjoy creating moments of connection and sharing. Every week we go to Vic to practice yoga and trapeze at a space called La Fàbrica de Somnis, a creative and alternative place where there is also a climbing wall, jam room, and a small, friendly community that we feel part of. We often like to invite friends over to the masia for shared meals, relaxed gatherings and afternoons playing board games, and Workawayers are very welcome to join and be part of these moments of community and exchange.

  • Help

    Help

At the moment, we mainly need help in the vegetable garden, which is the core of our permaculture project. Tasks may include preparing the soil, creating new beds, paths and stairs, planting, mulching, watering and general garden care. Part of the help will also involve taking care of some fruit trees, including basic and seasonal tasks. Also planting and caring for our dye garden, which will be a part of the main garden, a very colourful part :)

We also plan to have chickens in the spring, so taking care of them will be part of the daily activities as well.

On top of that we have many other ideas we will implement slowly and tasks that will change with the seasons. We may be helping with wood, fencing, clearing weeds and brush, making firewood for next winter, setting up water retaining systems that we have not yet applied, making fertilizers, drying food, preserving part of what we harvest...

Tasks will be organised according to the needs of each season and the natural rhythm of the year. Volunteer help will take place in the mornings, when energy levels are higher and temperatures are more pleasant. We don’t usually wake up very early. We’re happy to share a cup of tea or coffee in the morning, but we don’t normally have breakfast ourselves. Volunteers are welcome to prepare their own breakfast and organize their morning in a way that feels right for them — whether that means waking up earlier to start the day with a small routine, having an early breakfast, or taking some quiet time for yoga or other personal practices.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We offer accommodation in our guest room, which has a double bed and heating for colder days. If there are two volunteers who came separatedly, we can arrange another bed at the studio during the months that is still or already cold. Outdoors, there is also space for camping, if a volunteer prefers to sleep outside in a tent.

There is also the possibility to use our studio, whenever it is available, for developing personal artistic projects during your stay. Meals are shared, and we like to organize the cooking so everyone can take part, share their culinary skills and learn new ways of cooking from each other. The bathroom is shared, and at the moment there is only one.

Even though we share the house, we value our privacy and personal space, so it’s important that everyone feels comfortable having individual time and boundaries. During the months of March, April and May, we are especially focused on our clothing and natural dye project, so the rhythm of work can be more intense during that period. The rest of the year is generally calmer and more flexible.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Although the main help we need is in the vegetable garden, we really value volunteers who have some kind of personal artistic or creative project they would like to develop during their stay. We live in a rural area, about 10 minutes by car from Sant Quirze (the closest village) and 25 minutes from Vic, where we do most of our social and cultural activities. Having your own car will give you much more freedom to explore the area, but if you don’t have one, it’s not a problem — you are welcome to join us when we go to Vic or take part in the activities we do together. Because we spend a lot of time at home working and we don’t drive every day, it’s important for volunteers to have their own interests or projects they can enjoy outside helping hours.

If volunteers don’t have their own vehicle, we can pick them up from the train or bus station in Vic or Ripoll, which are the main nearby towns with good transport connections.

Garden tasks mainly occur in the morning. If we can arrange a schedule that suits both your needs and ours it will be great. It can be interessting as we will all be working from home, each with their own space.

We can plug the van or motorhome to our house energy system if necessary. There will be water to fill the tank. When it rains it gets a bit muddy and the path to get home can be tricky. There is not much flat space but we can manage. We will see how it is when you want to come.

    Caliu (5 years)

He is super gentle. He might bark from affar at first sight specially if you come with a vehicle he doesn't know. Other than that he is super chill, loves cuddling but keeps his distance, as if he doesn't want to bother. But he will love a good belly scratch or any kind of loving interaction with a human.

    Profile photo of Selva

    Selva (5 years)

She is very gentle and loves cuddles when she knows you. At first sight, she might bark and protect the house and the family from strangers. You'll get to become friends very quickly and then she'll poke her nose to your arm to ask for cuddles :)
