Even though it was only for a few days, it was lovely having Katrina and Cora around.. A couple of friendly, intelligent and hardworking Workawayers. While they were here Katrina added her carpentry skills to the camp toilet - going overtime to finish her work before she left - and Cora did a lot of garden weeding - getting all the weed roots out and taking care not to remove anything I wanted kept. Both Katrina and Cora were careful and methodical workers - which I really appreciated. They were also great around the house - fitting in well with the other helpers, bringing fun, intelligent conversation to the dinner table, and always being ready to pitch in with anything that needed doing. I have no hesitation in recommending Katrina and Cora to any future prospective hosts or employers and I wish them well on their travels around New Zealand.

It was my first time doing Workaway, and it was a wonderful experience! The family was really kind, open-minded, and full of love and energy. They treated me like part of their family. Their meals were also always delicious and healthy, and I loved every single one of them. The kids were so adorable and energetic, and I really enjoyed doing origami and drawing together with them:) I was also very happy that I had the chance to visit beautiful beaches and towns. Their home is surrounded by beautiful nature — it’s peaceful and breathtaking. Anyone who loves nature would absolutely love it there! I had such a meaningful experience and made precious memories during my stay. I’m truly grateful for the time I spent with them:)

I had a marvellous time ;) I felt very welcomed and comfortable from the beginning. The work was different each day and I enjoyed it. Especially when the gentle dog Indie accompanied me. I will miss the wonderful nature and the relaxing atmosphere a lot ;)

It was a pleasure to host Matt. He was hard worker who did everything and anything we asked of him. He helped with a building job, mixed a lot of concrete, hauled a lot of gravel and was a respectful and helpful person around the house. He was also a happy, friendly guy who got on well with everyone else here. I have no hesitation in recommending Matt to any future hosts or employers. I'm very grateful for all he did here and wish him well on his journey around New Zealand.

I fell in love with this project as soon as I found out about it. They guys are bringing some young life back to this little stone village. The level of craftsmanship they’re putting in the renovation is very high, they’re building and renovating in a way that’s meant to last, which is rare nowadays. I actually developed a professional crush on Antoine’s woodworking mastery. I learned a lot for when I’ll renovate my own house one day and I’m sure you can learn too! The gastronomic experience is worth mentioning, the food provided to helpers is great. We had lovely dinners all together under the starry sky in the summer or in the cosy kitchen by the stove in the winter. If you’re into nature and wildlife this place is among the most preserved areas of the northern Apennines. Wolves, boars, deers and more roam these forests. Wild orchids in the meadows, old growth chestnuts woods, hidden creeks, endless beech forests. Eat some honey dripping from the comb in the apiary overlooking the valley and come back to thank me 😁

Muchas gracias.

Thibaut and Mathilde are exceptional Workaways. They stayed here two weeks and I really appreciate having had them here. They were very willing to do the work and capable of working independently. They were pleasant to have around and interesting. Their English is better than they would have you believe and we had no issues communicating. I highly recommend them and they are always welcome here.

I would like to say that Serena and Enzo and their two sons are truly an amazing family. This was my first experience like this, and I will always remember it very warmly. They are an incredibly kind, welcoming, and warm-hearted family who made me feel comfortable from the very beginning. During my stay, I learned a lot about the region of Italy where they live, which made the experience even more special. I am also very happy that I had the opportunity to try their cuisine - everything was absolutely delicious, and I truly enjoyed discovering new flavors. They have two wonderful sons who love sports and music. They are very ambitious, full of energy, and it was a pleasure to spend time with them. Even though my English is not very strong, Serena was always patient and made sure I understood everything. She explained things clearly and also tried to teach me and help me improve my language skills, which I really appreciate. My stay was quite short - only one week - but I am very satisfied and grateful for this experience. I honestly feel that I could have stayed longer to learn, experience, and discover even more. As for the tasks, they were always clearly explained and mainly involved helping with small household duties. Everything was fair and well organized. I am truly happy that I had the chance to stay with them and be part of their home, even for a short time.

I stayed with Tom and Cecile for 10 days and the experience was amazing. They are both thoughtful, open minded, knowledgeable people. I felt comfortable and welcome throughout my whole stay. I learned so much about sheep, gardening, and more. We had many great conversations about everything including life and farming in Spain and Canada. The meals were delicious. They also recommended some trails and roads to explore the area. The work was fun and very fair. Tom and Cecile are excellent communicators for what needs to be done and how. The balance between work and free time is fair and clear. I would highly recommend and I hope to be able to come back again!

Our experience was truly unforgettable, exactly what Celeste and I had been hoping for, and so much more! From the very beginning, we were welcomed into a warm and inspiring community that genuinely values the work being done and expresses deep gratitude for every contribution. Although the team is small, their dedication to the mission is remarkable. They are not only fully committed to the cause, but they also show sincere care for the comfort and well-being of every volunteer. From day one, we felt included as part of the family, not only by the staff but also by the other volunteers. One of the greatest highlights was sharing this journey with volunteers from all over the world. The intense late-night discussions, the laughter-filled card games, and the meaningful connections we built are memories we will cherish for a lifetime. Beyond the volunteer work, we also had the opportunity to explore the region and immerse ourselves in Tanzania’s stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage. The balance between meaningful work and cultural discovery made the experience even more special. We sincerely recommend this place to anyone considering volunteering. It is a life-changing experience that will always hold a special place in our hearts. We wish the entire team continued success and happiness, and we will definitely be back! That’s a promise :)

I do my first volunteer experience and I couldn’t imagine anything better. I spend 3 weeks in the Polish winter that is really nice to see with all the snow. We live in a beautiful and quiet forest. I learn a lot about permaculture, wood working, Polish culture/tradition and more because Adam have a great knowledge about so much things. Adam always try to find work that you like to do and listen to your desire. The food that Adam cooked was just delicious, he's a great cooker. I spend a lot of good times with him and can only highly recommand Adam as a host!

Michelle and Tobias were absolutely amazing! During the 3 months they stayed with us, we have come to consider them family. They are both extremely respectful, helpful, responsible and hardwoking. The communication between all of us was very easy and the atmosphere always fun! Both of them are amazing with children (we have a 1yo and a 4yo). Our daughters got very attached to them and we felt completely safe leaving them with Tobias and Michelle (even for a whole night.) Tobias was also always ready to help repair anything he could around the house. I would 100% recommend them to anyone.

Fati, Naceur and their three kids are a fun family who want to make sure you have an unforgettable time in El Jadida. In almost no time at all, the kids had warmed up to me (they call all Workawayers “teacher”) and I was spending most of my day with them. For a few days at the start of my stay, Fati took me to the beachfront for my morning runs, which I really appreciated. We even enjoyed a quiet breakfast at a cafe together without the kids for once! They were also kind to share the start of the special month of Ramadan, with traditional dishes for the family evening meal, and another pair of Workawayers arrived at this time. Because there’s pressure to be part of the family, I found it hard to take time off and I worked long hours in my first week without much time alone or to relax, which left me tired for my second week. I typically spent the mornings cleaning up the mess from the previous night before setting up for breakfast when everyone was out of bed. Fati is very kind and well-meaning but often left me with no instructions or indication of when she might return, so I was looking after the kids alone for long stretches of time. There were also common miscommunication issues meaning I typically never knew what was going on, or what we were doing next. The pair of Workawayers who arrived later found these surprises a little stressful too. My free time was unfortunately mostly at night when I didn’t feel so safe walking around alone. El Jadida has just a few interesting things to explore - the walled Cite Portugaise, the beach, and souk/Medina area. The whole family is very screen-dependent which increased more during Ramadan. If you love YouTube, shopping, amusement parks, it’s perfect for you. The family’s lifestyle is comfortable but as they are transitioning from their previous large villa to a smaller apartment, the kids had a limited number of toys and the kitchen was understocked so we often ate out. I tried to encourage more creative play and introduce unfamiliar English vocabulary, but the kids tended to prefer certain games on repeat, although they would become interested in something new if I was putting a lot of effort into it. They spent a little time completing homework sheets during my second week, but definitely had more energy for play than for studying. The kids gave me head lice during my stay. Since Fares, the youngest, is only around 2 years old there is a lot of screaming and often conflicts to be sorted out. I happily learned some more Moroccan Arabic in exchange for improving their English! Fati has loads of upbeat Arabic music to share during the car rides. Overall, they are a warm-hearted family who want the best for their Workawayers, and Fati really appreciated the help as she’s understandably very tired! Thank you all and I wish you joy for the rest of the year. ❤️

Encore merci, Laurent

Zora came to house-sit for us, we had a lovely experience hosting her. She looked after our animals beautifully and we came home to a warm and tidy house. We're in discussion with her to come back again.
