Hoy hace mas que 6 semanas que llegue a la casa de gustavo, en este hermoso lugar que es el proyecto esmeralda. Aprendi mucho sobre la construcción ecológica, la cultura locale y pude mejorar mucho mi español, gracias a la paciencia de Gus cuando le pide que repitiria lo que decia por quinta vez😅 Pero sobre todo, aprendi a vivir de una nueva manera, lejo del ritmo y del ruido de la ciudad. Vivir en un lugar donde lo unico que importa es de compartir, cuidar de todos y escuchar a si mismo. Si es un lugar lejos de la ciudad, bueno, ¡también es un lugar de possibilidades infinitas para mi! Gus fue muy abierto y animó todos mis proyectos, incluso los mas locos, desde cocinar mi propio pan hasta construir una guitara con madera y clavos! Mil gracias Gus para estas semanas de gran aprendizajes y felicidad!

I spent three unforgettable weeks in Ghana living with Pastor Issac, his wife Juliana, and four wonderful children who are orphaned or in need of support. From the moment I arrived, I felt warmly welcomed and fully included in family life. I had my own bedroom within the house compound and private bathroom facilities, which made my stay comfortable while still allowing me to experience daily life in an authentic and meaningful way. I was encouraged to try a wide variety of Ghanaian dishes, which were kindly adapted to suit my tastes. What stood out most during my stay was witnessing the resilience and strong work ethic within the home. The girls’ dedication was especially inspiring — waking early before school to sweep, and after school helping to prepare food and wash utensils, all without complaint. I was fortunate to attend two funerals during my time there and had a beautiful African-style outfit made to wear to the events. I also had a traditional Kente cloth outfit made for a special cultural celebration at church, which was a memorable and meaningful experience. Teaching at the school was equally rewarding. I worked with seven students aged 11–14, following a structured timetable and textbooks while also incorporating interactive games to make learning enjoyable. “Hangman” and “Animal, Mineral, Vegetable” quickly became favourites, and the card games I brought — Happy Families, Pairs, Snap, and Sevens — were enthusiastically received. I brought recorders from home and taught the class a few simple tunes, which they thoroughly enjoyed. Arts and crafts were particularly popular, especially colouring (I only wish I had brought more colouring books). We also tried origami and made paper fortune tellers, which the students loved. I purchased skipping ropes and footballs from the local market for playtime, and these were very well received. The children were an absolute joy to teach — warm, enthusiastic, and eager to learn, especially when lessons were fun and interactive. This was a truly beautiful and enriching experience. I would wholeheartedly recommend staying with Pastor Issac to anyone seeking an authentic cultural exchange and the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution.

We were so lucky to have met Sava and Andrea. They were fantastic volunteers and were always willing to help with any project that we had. They not only took on difficult projects with a smile, but they always had ideas on how to make it better, which I appreciated. They planted vegetable plants, did tree pruning, cleaned our natural pool, took care of our outdoor animals, installed drip watering systems, created a comprehensive garden map, planting plan and bed numbering system (which was super cool and VERY useful) as well as helping with the picking and preservation of the food from the garden. We worked very well together, and they were very conscientious in making sure that they tasks that I gave them at the beginning of each week were completed, and when they had questions, came and asked. The communication was some of the best that we have had in our 5+ years of hosting I strongly recommend Sava and Andrea as volunteers and we were so sad to see them go! Thank you Sava and Andrea for everything that you added to the garden and our family!

Sam and Fidy stayed with us for three weeks in January/February. They were a great help with forestry work and daily tasks (Sam took care of the zebus every day and Fidy lit the stove every day). Now we have to do it all ourselves again and we really notice who we are missing :-) They were able to do some physically demanding tasks for us (stacking firewood in the store, removing fences, assembling a large old cupboard, moving a cupboard to another location, etc.). Sam agreed to drive one of our tractors, which meant we could drive two tractors into the forest. That was great too! They are both friendly and interested, asked questions on various topics, and sought conversation, but they also liked to retreat to their area upstairs. We usually ate together, but they spent their free time on their own. Both speak English very well; any communication problems were more on our side. Thank you both very much for your help! We look forward to seeing you again! Sam und Fidy waren im Januar/Februar für drei Wochen bei uns. Sie waren uns eine große Hilfe bei Waldarbeiten und bei der Übernahme täglicher Aufgaben (Sam versorgte jeden Tag die Zebus und Fidy feuerte jeden Tag die Heizung ein). Jetzt müssen wir es wieder selbst erledigen und wir merken, wer uns fehlt :-) Einige körperlich anstrengende Aufgaben konnten sie für uns erledigen (Feuerholz in den Vorrat einstapeln, Zaun entfernen, großen alten Schrank aufbauen, Schrank an einen anderen Ort tragen,…). Sam hat sich darauf eingelassen, einen unserer Traktoren zu fahren, so war es möglich, mit zwei Traktoren in den Wald zu fahren. Auch das war super! Die beiden sind freundlich und interessiert, haben zu verschiedenen Themen Fragen gestellt und das Gespräch gesucht, allerdings haben sie sich auch gerne in ihren Bereich oben zurückgezogen. Wir haben meistens zusammen gegessen, die freie Zeit haben die beiden jedoch für sich verbracht. Beide sprechen sehr gut Englisch, Probleme in der Verständigung gab es hier eher auf unserer Seite. Stéphane has self-designed and meticulously laid out his entire house as a timber-joined structure and is completing it room by room. It is a very beautiful and impressive project and we were fortunate to be able to assist him with the structural framing of the kitchen and entryway. He is so fun to work with and provides detailed instructions that are easy to follow. We worked 4-5 hours on weekdays and ended our work day at lunch with a lovely outdoor shower and a home cooked meal with the family. All the family was so nice and interested in sharing their island experience and learning about us. We really enjoyed all our conversations. Myriam gave us great suggestions on places to visit on the island including local insights on the best beaches, hot springs, hikes, restaurants, etc. We stayed on their boat in the harbor which was comfortable and peaceful as well as being next to a great swimming beach and nice hot showers. We would definitely welcome the opportunity to work with Stéphane and visit with his family again. If you have carpentry experience and time to spend in Guadeloupe, definitely reach out to Stéphane!

A really adorable family who helped us get on top of lingering tasks enormously. They helped clear spaces such as a large barn, outdoor kitchen and outdoor bathroom, fix fences, dismantle an old outdoor bathroom, process wood, clear and strim gardens and compost areas. They helped with cooking and putting down a floor in an outdoor shower unit and did some beautiful sculpting on a clay pizza oven, all whilst caring for an 18 month old baby and much rain unfortunately. It was such a pleasure to meet you all. Lovely conversations and great sense of humours!

Momo and Taka stayed with us for four weeks in December and January and helped us with lots of different things. They are both very friendly, interested, and extremely hard-working. Their main tasks were chopping wood in the forest, shoveling snow, and preparing apples for drying. In addition, they took care of all kinds of household chores, swept the kitchen on their own, etc. They also enjoyed looking after our children (the little ones) and playing with them (the older ones). Both were very interested in our everyday family life, they fit in well and, for example, played games with us in the evenings and had a sense of when we needed time to ourselves as a family. We ate meals together. Momo and Taka often accompanied us when we were out and about in town during Advent and attended many different events. They also celebrated Christmas with us and the family, thanked us with a wonderful gift, and took part in Secret Santa. Despite some problems with English on both sides, communication worked well, and when we needed it, we used a translation app to help us. We had a really good time together. Thank you so much, dear Momo and Taka, for staying with us and letting us get to know you! Thank you for all your help. We wish you all the best! Momo und Taka waren 4 Wochen im Dezember und Januar bei uns und halfen uns bei vielen verschiedenen Dingen. Die beiden sind sehr freundlich, interessiert und äußerst fleißig. Die Hauptaufgaben waren Holz machen im Wald, Schnee schippen und Äpfel zum Dörren vorbereiten. Daneben haben die beiden allerlei anfallende Dinge im Haushalt erledigt, selbständig mal die Küche gekehrt, usw. Außerdem haben sie gerne unsere Kinder betreut (den Kleinen) und mit ihnen gespielt (mit den Größeren). Auch körperlich anstrengende Arbeit wurden von ihnen erledigt, wie etwa eine Mauer abgebrochen und die Steine nach draußen gebracht, Futter für die Tiere zubereitet und diese gefüttert, einen Schrank abgebeizt und Holz gehackt. Beide waren sehr interessiert an unserem Familienalltag, sie haben sich gut eingefügt und zum Beispiel abends noch ein Spiel mit uns gespielt und hatten ein Gespür dafür, wenn wir als Familie Zeit für uns brauchten. Mahlzeiten haben wir gemeinsam gegessen. Momo und Taka haben uns oft begleitet, als wir im Advent im Ort unterwegs waren und viele verschiedene Events besucht haben. Auch an Weihnachten haben sie mit uns und der Familie gefeiert, sich mit einem wunderschönen Geschenk an uns bedankt und beim Wichteln mitgemacht. Die Verständigung klappte trotz manchen Problemen mit Englisch auf beiden Seiten gut, wenn wir es brauchten, haben wir eine Übersetzer-App zu Hilfe genommen. Wir hatten zusammen eine wirklich gute Zeit. Vielen Dank, liebe Momo, lieber Taka, dass ihr bei uns wart und wir euch kennenlernen durften! Danke für all eure Hilfe. Wir wünschen euch alles Gute!

My experience at Knots Community was extraordinary! My stay consisted of beautiful views, exciting work, and most importantly, great community. From the moment I arrived I felt like part of a small family that was always changing. People would come and go, but the energy always stayed positive and comfortable. Yuho, Shota, and the other volunteers were all such hardworking people and have became people that I can call my family. And of course their wonderful daughter Aiy Chang, who is just a ball of joy and energy, was the cutest girl ever!! Thank you for the experience and I'm excited to see what this community will accomplish in the future.

Alex volunteered with us in Windhoek during the very early days of our program, as our profile had only been active for two weeks when he joined. Since he was already nearing the end of his stay in Namibia, we were fortunate to have him with us, even for a short time. During his time here, Alex supported our children by assisting with additional English reading classes. His patience and encouragement made a noticeable difference, helping the children build both their skills and their confidence. He also worked closely with the boys on developing their soccer skills, where he not only focused on technique but also on motivation — consistently encouraging them to keep trying, even when they felt challenged or discouraged. Beyond the classroom and the field, Alex lent a helping hand in our vegetable garden, assisting with weeding and general clean-up alongside the children. He approached every task with enthusiasm and a positive attitude. Alex is cooperative, reliable, and always willing to help wherever needed. His positive energy and supportive nature would make him a valuable asset to any project. We truly appreciated his contribution and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.

I stayed 3 weeks at the farm in the month of January. I feel very grateful for the moments I shared with all the team and others volunteers. It was always a pleasure to stay around the shop, see the smiles, hear the laugh, smell the flavor, sometimes being lucky to taste food and juices, sharing nice talking times with Aly, play with the kids., ... I learned more about pepper farming and enjoy to share this knowledge with the customers during guided tour and tasting. On my free time, I went to visit different places around the farm (Kep, Caves, Bokor National Park) and also simply enjoyed a coconut water and waffles in a small shop in Kep or watching sunset at the secret lake or at the mangrove. Thank you to Chris, Aly and all the team for this greats memories.

We were so lucky to have Barbara, Guido and Clooney as our first host with Workaway! We stayed with them for 1,5 week and 2 other Workawayers. Together we had a wonderful time where we built a treehouse, worked in the garden, fixed things. We did a lot but it was always in a very relaxed atmosphere. The lunches and diners were tasty, cooked with a lot of attention. We enjoyed having meals together followed by nice conversations and lots of laughter. We will never forget watching the Olympic skating and the Pilates lesson we attended. The remark in their profile that everybody had to be a good time was certainly met. We left as friends and we will surely meet again.

I spent 5 days at Mamata's and it was truly an incredible experience, I really wish I could've stayed longer. If you want to learn about the authentic nepalese way of life, this is your place. During my stay, I helped in the garden and with some cleaning tasks. Mamata works at the local school, and since one of the teachers was absent, I had the opportunity to teach and play with the children. It’s an experience I really recommend; these kids will warm your heart. I also was fortunate to meet her large family and celebrate Ekadashi (a hindu festivity) and the birthday of one of her sisters. Mamata thoughtfully arranged transportation to and from the house, as well as an amazing walking safari in the nearby jungle. She cooks delicious dal bhat, makes everyone laugh and has the purest soul. Dhanyabad Mamata for all the awesome memories!!! Really wish you all the best❤️‍🩹

Dimit and Milica helped us with social media management as well as wall art. We were very happy with their work and would gladly welcome them back to collaborate with us again. Milica has extensive experience as a social media manager and brings strong professional photography skills, which added great value to our content. Dimit also has solid social media knowledge, and together they successfully managed all six of our social media accounts. They worked well as a team, were reliable, and delivered quality results. We highly recommend them.

Jorge is a fantastic volunteer, very helpful, a great friend to all the other volunteers, cheerful, full of energy, and we have the feeling that he has learned a lot. He came to climb, but also learned a lot about masonry, and above all, he had a wonderful time. Our doors are always wide open for him to come whenever he wants, both he and his family. He has many qualities that make him an ideal volunteer: great intelligence, emotional intelligence, clear ideas about life, and a proactive attitude that allows him to channel his energy forward with great ease. If this volunteer ever knocks on your door, you won't just receive any volunteer, you'll receive Superman! A big hug! Jorge es un voluntario fantástico muy colaborador , muy amigo de todos los otros voluntarios , alegre lleno de energía y que tenemos la sensación de que ha aprendido muchas cosas , vendia a escalar pero además aprendido...muchas cosas de albañilería y sobre todo lo ha pasado fenomenal .le que dan las puertas de nuestra casa abiertas de par en par... para cuando quiere venir ....tanto él como con su familia.,... tiene muchos y variados elementos que le hacen ser un voluntario ideal..... mucha inteligencia emociona....l ideas claras en la vida y una actitud proactiva ...que hace que su energía se dirija hacia adelante con mucha facilidad. si alguna vez llama a su puerta, este voluntario... no le llega un voluntario ...le llega al Superman...un fuerte abrazo

We had a great week with Sebas, Ditte, Iluka and Ella in their lovely house in the mountains. The work we did was very diverse and ranged from helping in the garden to fixing stuff to sanding a bench. We felt free to work on items we liked and Sebas gave very clear directions. Sebas was very enthousiastic in sharing his knowledge about permaculture and showed interest in learning from us. We were happy that we could contribute to his ongoing project. Ditte prepared lovely tasty food for us and we shared lunch and diner with the family in a cosy atmosphere. We felt very supported in case we needed anything . We wish them all the best and when we are around next year, we will certainly stop by.

I spent a week with Paz in February and I had a great time! I mainly worked in the garden, but occasionally I would help clean the house. There was another workawayer with me, we each had our own room and shared a bathroom. Paz was great company and made many amazing meals for us. She was also very accommodating of me being vegetarian. I got to participate in a ceramics lesson and took us on a day trip to Toledo where she showed us around!

Quelle belle semaine passée chez Naomi et sa famille ! Dans une vallée un peu isolée mais accessible avec un bus, nous avons vécu quelques jours fabuleux dans leur magnifique maison japonaise de 130 ans. Malgré les températures fraîches, ils nous ont fournis kotatsu et grosses couvertures pour être bien cosy. La maison est en pleine nature entre forêt, rivière et plantations de thé. Naomi est une personne très agréable, curieuse et attentionnée. Malgré la barrière de la langue, nous avons bien échangé et rigolé grâce au traducteur. Nous avons accompagné Naomi dans ses nombreuses tâches quotidiennes : préparations des repas, vaisselle, lessive, jardinage, promenade des chiens. Nous avons également passé du temps avec les enfants après l'école en jouant aux cartes, faisant du karaoké ou regardant des animés. Nous avons pu participer au cours de Karaté de l'ainé ou encore faire un tour à vélo. Un soir, nous avons organisé une soirée crêpes et film. Ce fut une riche expérience pour nous et merci encore de nous avoir ouvert les portes de votre maison. Arigato Gozaimasu Naomi, Toru, Muku & Soso Neko, Anko & Kinako

This was my first Workaway experience, and it exceeded my expectations. From the beginning, Nhat and Ha were welcoming and supportive. They took the time to explain how the hostel operates and allowed me to understand the management side of hospitality. I learned a lot about organization, teamwork, and guest interaction during my stay. This hostel has a strong community atmosphere. It brings together travelers and volunteers from many different countries, creating a dynamic and positive environment. During my time in Da Lat, I was able to experience both the professional and social sides of hostel life. I appreciated the trust, the shared activities, and the sense of inclusion within the team. This experience helped me grow, not only in hospitality skills but also in communication and adaptability. Thank you for the opportunity.

Ich/Wir hatten wunderschöne fünf Wochen bei Petra und Georg. Ich habe mich vom ersten Moment an willkommen und sehr gut aufgenommen gefühlt. Es war eine rundum schöne erste Workaway-Erfahrung. Petra und Georg sind wirklich wundervolle Menschen. Sehr hilfsbereit, offen, freundlich und immer für einen Spaß zu haben! Spaziergänge am See mit Knut und Petra, Gartenarbeit wie das Schneiden der Hortensien oder das Bepflanzen der Beete, kreatives Arbeiten oder Backen im Haus gehörten zu unseren täglichen Aufgaben und haben uns sehr viel Spaß gemacht. Besonders gefreut hat mich, dass ich viel über Gartenarbeit dazulernen konnte. Uns wurden viele Freiheiten gelassen, sodass wir unseren Tag und die Aufgaben weitgehend selbst planen und organisieren konnten. Auch wenn das Wetter einmal nicht so gut war, haben Petra und Georg darauf geachtet, dass wir die schönen Stunden nutzen konnten, um die Insel zu erkunden. Oft saßen wir zusammen, haben tolle Gespräche geführt, Kaffee getrunken oder gemeinsam gekocht. Die Zeit allein mit Knut und Mosca war ebenfalls eine besondere Erfahrung und hat uns den Tieren noch nähergebracht. Vor allem von dem Kuscheln mit Knut auf dem Sofa konnte man nicht genug von bekommen. Alles in allem waren es ganz wunderbare Wochen, die viel zu schnell vorbeigingen und ich hoffe sehr, dass wir uns eines Tages wiedersehen.

My friend and I stayed with Priscila, Kelvin and their family for two weeks in the beginning of February. Although it rained a lot we had a wonderful first Workaway-Experience. They were friendly and welcoming hosts, always trying to make our daily (work-)life pleasant! We learned a lot about gardening from Priscila. Other tasks included walking the dog, feeding the chickens and clearing the forest. Even without a car, we were able to explore the area really well. Either with the family's bicycles or because we were taken to the beach by car. We highly recommend staying with this loving family and look forward to perhaps returning again in the future :)
