I volunteered for one month at the school and it was a wonderful experience. I could not have expected a better first volunteering experience. Sokear was really helpful before and during my stay. I was in the second school, which is in a very rural area. During the day I tought 3 hours to teenagers ranging from begginers to intermediate levels. My classes were really small, which allowed me to get closer to my students and adapt to their needs. When II was not teaching, I also got the opportunity to play with the younger kids.I really enjoyed walking and cycling in the village and in the middle of the rice fields and trying to talk with people. Every day after class we went to the market with teacher Sen and the other volunteers, giving us the chance to meet the local people. I also got the chance to experience sunset and week-end trip in the countryside. As I was not in the main school, I did not spend that much time with Sokear, but I met him every week-end and we had very interesting and philosophical conversation. During the week, I stayed in the school (I had a private room) with teacher Sen who is so nice. He introduced me to many local dishes, we talked a lot about culture, and we had some great evenings playing games. I would highly recommend this place as it as been so far the best experience of my travel! !

Thank you again Linde & Said for an unforgettable 12 days. For me it was simple living at its best. Time moves slowly in the desert, I found this to be very relaxing, peaceful and good for the soul. Particular highlights for me personally: learning how to make Tagine, sleeping peacefully under the heavy wool blankets in the cold, stargazing, sand dune surfing, learning about your culture during lots of great conversations over sweet tea. I really enjoyed the work; thankfully during my stay it was a perfect temperature for physical work like digging canals and preparing the fields for the upcoming river water. Linde & Said are always supportive and generous with their time should you ask questions or have any problems, or you’re simply unsure of what to do/how things work- just ask! I wish you both all the best for the project and will keep watching your progress online.

From the very first moment I arrived at the hostel, I felt truly at home after months of traveling. Lena and Bischwo welcomed me with such warmth and generosity that it was impossible not to feel part of the family right away. They have an incredible ability to host volunteers from all over the world, creating a space where different cultures, stories, and personalities come together so naturally. I arrived just a few days before Christmas, and although I was initially worried about spending this special time far away from my family, I ended up finding a new one here. The meaningful, joyful, and comforting moments shared with the other wonderful volunteers during this period will stay in my heart forever 💚 The work itself was equally rewarding. It was always varied, engaging, and full of learning opportunities, and every day brought something new. I felt deeply grateful to contribute to a project with such a meaningful purpose, perfectly aligned with my personal values. I already look forward to seeing how the project will grow and evolve with the help of future volunteers if I ever return to Nepal. Bhaktapur is also the ideal place for a workaway experience: incredibly rich in culture and history, there is always something to explore during your free time, while still offering a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu. A huge thank you to Lena and Bischwo for your kindness, generosity, and inspiring dedication. Thank you for creating such a special place and experience. Hope to see you again very soon, and I'll bring chocolate !

I spent three weeks with Ronald, Rachel and their baby Julia. I really had such a wonderful time here. In a short time Ronald was able to teach me so much about planting trees, the environment, farming, taking care of goats and chicken, about Uganda and so much more. Rachel also taught me about the Ugandan kitchen and she made so many delicious meals. Both of them really made me feel at home for which I am so grateful. Thanks again and Julia thanks for the groundnuts!😁 Hope to see you again in the future!

Wow! We had an amazing week with Clara and Mario! They are both so open-minded and always want the time you spend with them to be perfect! The communication was like talking to good friends and the work was really creative, because you always have the possibility to work indipendent and decide how to do or build things. Hopefully our self-made shed will hold for a long time and will help to keep things organized. Thanks a lot for your time, we are so greatful for it and learned a lot! Laurie & Kili

Thank you so much for your help during your stay. Your support in the garden was greatly appreciated, and I’m especially grateful for your initiative and generosity in renting a car and sharing trips through Guanajuato, Querétaro, and Jalisco. It was a great experience and very helpful. You were responsible, collaborative, and a pleasure to host. I truly appreciate your contribution and gladly recommend you as a volunteer. Wishing you the best in your future travels and projects!

This is an incredibly late feedback - sorry! I have spent roughly 3 weeks or so in Darkhan in summer 2025. I helped with teaching the morning classes - it was 3 hours, 5 days a week, so the workload is not too much at all and leaves one plenty of time for themselves. I also found it very well organised in the sense that everyday I would receive the content of next day's class so I could review the material and be more prepared. Any personal input, like games or different ways get the children more engaged, were also welcome. I also helped with marking the kids homework, which I personally enjoyed. The children were great and Alex, the assistant teacher, was great in stepping in whenever it was necessary or helpful to switch to Mongolian for a smoother communication. The flat has everything one needs: it can host two workawayers, each with their own room; the school and grocery shops are within walking distance, and there is also a very big park nearby where lots of locals hang out, especially in the evening. I found Darkhan a very pleasant town, very chilled. In hindsight the one thing that maybe could be improved is helping the workawayers find opportunities to get to know local culture better, explore Darkhan and the area around the city a bit more, and occasions to engage with the local community. Ah, side note: do go to the local museum: the staff was incredibly helpfulf and happy to guide me through the collection. Last but most definetly not least: although I did not have the chance to meet her in person as she had just given birth, Munkhtsetseg was incredibly supportive. I had a few issues back home and she was kind and flexible enough to support me throughout and to extend my stay there with them, even with little notice. So, thank you Munkhtsetseg and thanks to the team - I really enjoyed my time in Darkhan!

Thanks to them, Hokkaido has become my favorite place 🥹❤️ Delicious food, vast nature, plenty of activities, romantic winter scenery, a comfortable home, and most of all, the lovely children 👧🏻🍣⛄️ I truly looked forward to seeing the kids every single day. Children don’t always let things go the way we expect 👀, but the three of them were so energetic, cute, and funny, making every day exciting and full of joy 😍😘 I quickly felt relaxed and at home. With delicious dinners, easy access to Sapporo and ski resorts, and their incredible kindness, I wanted to stay here forever 😂✨ Megumi-san was always genuinely funny, and Dad was so knowledgeable and taught me so many things ☺️ Outside of my shifts, I was free to watch Netflix, cook in the big kitchen, chat with other workawayers, and even join family outings. I truly never had a dull moment 🤩 If Megumi-san hadn’t reached out to me, I would never have had this wonderful encounter or such a meaningful experience in my life. I am deeply grateful, and I truly, truly can’t wait to see everyone again 🥹 I can confidently recommend them, and I sincerely wish them lots of happiness and good fortune in their lives 💫 Thank you for such a truly happy time. I love you, my dear family 🫣❤️

I want to sincerely thank you for all the help and dedication you showed during your stay. Your support in the garden, helping with guests, and cleaning was invaluable especially while I was away. You were always responsible, attentive, and willing to help, which made a big difference in keeping everything running smoothly. Beyond your great work, it was a pleasure sharing daily life with you. Your positive attitude, respect for the space, and good energy made the experience even better. It was clear that you had a genuine interest in the local culture and in living the experience in an authentic way. I truly appreciate your trust, commitment, and the care you put into everything you did. You were a great help and a wonderful person to have here. I highly recommend you as a volunteer and wish you all the best in your future travels and projects. Thank you for everything and for leaving such a positive mark here.

Elora has been an absolute delight to have with us as a Workaway. She is friendly, cheerful, and always wears a smile, which instantly brightens up the atmosphere. She connected wonderfully with the kids, playing with them and keeping things fun and lighthearted. Elora is also keen to help with any task, always ready to jump in and assist wherever needed. Her positive attitude and willingness to contribute made her a truly valuable part of our team. We are very grateful for her time with us and wish her all the best for the future!

Celeste and Craig were my first workaway experience and they welcomed me as if I were part of their family. They made me live the kiwi way. I had an amazing time thanks to their attention, care, patience and communication. We shared incredible homemade meals (they are both chefs imo). The work was great as I was able to learn some skills in gardening and they were very flexible and understanding. In addition, we talked and spent a lot of time together, these moments I will cherish forever as they were really genuine. I also need to say, my experience there was even more lovely thanks to the kitties Zebb and Nero. If you want to experience the kiwi life and be welcomed warmheartedly, do not wait and contact them for an unforgettable workaway experience in Tauranga!

The whole family were very welcoming of us and we had a very positive stay over all. The two little ones are lively, friendly and very easy to engage with. They really enjoyed nursery rhymes, action songs, drawing and physical play. Cliff was able to create a roof for the motorbike shelter and also provide the knowledge and find the materials to mend the water tank - a job executed by Matthieu using the ladder Cliff made. I was able to offer Reflexology to Shaun, which I'm hoping helped. Agata and I also cleaned the restaurant/spa space - hopefully this can get up and running soon. The food provided by Fauziah is basic but filling. Unfortunately the kitchen on the upper floor was not very comprehensive, with no gas for the stove. There was a kettle which we used to boil drinking water.

I spent more than four months with this family, and I can honestly say it was the best decision I could have made. Before I arrived, they told me that every Workawayer who comes is welcomed as a family member, but only after arriving did I truly understand what that means. I spent a lot of time with them — birthdays, dinners, and simple daily routines, like playing table tennis with Vicco (be prepared: a 9-year-old boy will beat you 😉), or movie nights, etc. About the tasks: once you get used to them, they are very easy and actually fun. Most days, you finish all the tasks around 1 p.m., which means you have plenty of free time afterward. Feeding the horses, collecting eggs, raking leaves, and my favorite — walking the three lovely dogs in the forest right next to the house. The accommodation you get is beyond what you could ask for. You have your own private apartment with everything you need, including a small kitchen. The area is very green and natural, and still only about 30 minutes from the center of Hamburg , in my opinion, one of the most beautiful cities in Germany. Sandra, Sev, Vicco, Jordi, and Sienna — thank you so much for this time. This experience truly meant a lot to me ❤️❤️ You are a wonderful family with a unique lifestyle. peace

My experience working with the team, especially Kwame, was amazing. I was immediately pulled to how passionate Kwame was to lifting up his community and creating as many opportunities as possible for the girls in the mentorship program. Furthermore, Kwame always was open to new ideas, feedback and new resources to help the girls. Thank you team, for making me feel valued and getting to be a part of something so special.

I had the most wonderful week on LeAnne and Ian's farm in Inglewood. They (and their dogs!) were so welcoming. I much appreciated their flexibility with the work schedule, which allowed me to visit the surrounding area and fit in some hikes and running. I came to feel a true connection to the mountain - perhaps a whakapapa, as LeAnne educated me, and will definitely be making a return visit if I find myself in NZ again. I also loved the emphasis on cultural exchange. We had many deep conversations about the farm industry and I learned so much about how uneducated perceptions of farming might not be accurate, as there is nuance to every situation. I hope others can take the opportunity to stay with Ian and LeAnne to challenge some of their preconceived notions about food production, dairy farming, plant exclusive ;) vs meat diets, and animal welfare. Until next time!
